That's probably why he was shocked to hear of her death, Will knew of his Wolf transformations, but not of his actions against others while in that state. The way I see it, Stewart did it in an attempt to frame Will and steal his job from him.
Gosh! Richard Jenkins is just not aging. In the "Stepbrothers" he looks even younger than here in the "Wolf", while these two pictures are almost 15 years apart!
