I’ve driven to shelter cover 4 times in my life. It’s an absolutely magical place. I’m getting my PPL now at KPAO and visiting shelter cove is definitely on my bucket list
How long did it take you to drive up there all the way from Palo Alto? That’s quite the distance! I wish you all the best on your training! It’s such a great feeling to be able to control an airplane all by yourself!
Flown to Shelter Cove many times. The marine layer, bringing IFR conditions may surprise and inconvenience those who are not rated. No weather reporting and no radio communication with ATC from the ground.
Yes, definitely something to consider. There are a couple of great websites to look at live satellite images before departing, which helps with the planning. But there's always a chance that you have to turn around. Shelter Cove does not have any instrument procedures though, so an IR won't help you too much there unfortunately.
Just found your channel, looking at doing a Shelter Cove flight myself. Excellent video, amazing videography too. Well done! Thanks and keep sharing your flights.
If the weather works out, I'm hopefully back at Shelter Cove in two weeks. It's such an amazing place! Just make sure you have a good alternate that's quite a bit away when you head there. It can be really foggy there! Have a save trip!
The approach into Shelter Cove was a bit rough, as long as I was above the cliffs. The rest honestly wasn't that bad. Slowing down always helps a lot with turbulence.
@@skybound.adventures Agreed. The coastal mountains always generate some turbulence on the leeward side/peaks. The side along the ocean will still have the wind but minimal "mechanical turbulence". Same with the Napa/Sonoma range. Leeward sides, 1,000 feet or less above the peaks, can be bumpy.
Live cams (google search) at Shelter Cove are helpful for flight planning before departure, keeping in mind things do change. Nice video thank you sir!
You don’t have to fly there; but it beats that steep ass winding road to get there.
The view is probably also better from the air ;) Thanks for watching!

@@skybound.adventures maybe 5ish hours. It’s not too bad, I love lost coast road trips.

I will be heading to this airport in the fall, my favorite video of landing here. Nice job!
Thanks! I hope you had a great flight there as well!
Great video! Love flying to Shelter Cove
Thanks! I plan to get back there in the summer.

@@skybound.adventuresThinking about 22nd (WX permitting) … maybe see you there!
I currently have the plane scheduled for the 23. unfortunately. Since I’m renting I’m a bit inflexible with these longer flights.
Great video!
Hope I can make that flight one day
It’s an amazing destination and a great flight as long as the weather works out! I hope we’ll see a video about it on your channel too at some point!
great video, great flight and fantastic views... but these turbulences.. :)

I really enjoyed this, so much so I will subscribe.
Your narration was excellent.
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it! The next one is already in the makings!

Yes, that is a great resource. There are a few good websites with webcams around Northern California that are definitely helpful!
