One of the hardest Violet/Giants is the Carrierbomb. It frequently casts a very huge AOE skill that is really hard to avoid, esp. when you're a melee fighter (even w/ movespeed buffs included). I was only able to start killing it when I got a 10% speed fashion set, it made a huge difference.

Uff u not only need movement speed to dodge giant mechanics, in the first place u need a good internet connection xD - farming giants in SEA with 250ms simply doesnt work ... i randomely get ported in front of giant hahaah - cant wait for global :3
I've been staying at Guardian for the longest, cause I feel the value of these uniques only drops (History, Angel, Legendary (I've seen some for 3m lol)) - But I wanna level badly too. Historic might be a good middle-ground.

Dmg doesnt matter its just at 1 point inefficient zo do if you cant kill them in a reasonable time, def is a factor you should have a lvl 60 set at like +8 or 75 set at +6 at least to have the safe def but its doable with less for sure just a bit harder then
You stated that you want to be level 73 for best drop rates, so does that mean I can't get drops from Elder giant, Garbagespider, and Carrierbomb if I'm level 73?

I do not recommend doing violets as they dont drop weapons and the scroll droprate is to low its even more efficient to just lvl and sell npc weapons

2. Yes your lvl should be als close as possible to the monster your killing

Should I use historic axe or sword for my giant hunting blade? Was thinking axes with Rescorn set with HP cards to maximize HP over damage.
Take a look at the aoe blade guide the suggested build and gear is good for giant hunting
