    I was thinking about getting back into a few rabbits and was going to build some wood rabbit hutches but now I got to think about that all wire idea. Your right I never like the look of all cage and no wood but you had some good reasons. That wire didn’t look like regular hardware cloth wire?

    • @RuffCut
      @RuffCut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      no it is the commercial grade cage wire, and it is expensive too. I will look for some deals on all wire cages on craigs list...they may not be the size I want but can modify them to my needs...everything is getting so expensive...Thanks DV

    • @gregbrown5556
      @gregbrown5556 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it is expensive. I make mine 8 feet long and it takes 6 rolls even. 4 for all sides, 1 for ends and 3 dividers, and one for all doors. Makes 3 nice size cages. I watched him make his and I copied it and worked great. I believe it’s about $150ish for total cage.

    • @RuffCut
      @RuffCut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you could use hutches but usually they are built with cheap wire...before I built a hutch I would try and buy all wire cages off craigs list...just make sure the wire in the bottom is good and you can modify them any way you want

    Great info video Mr. Duke! It's about time to start breeding rabbits again. I keep my rabbit pens in a building out back. It does not have any electricity. Mosquitoes are really bad in the summer time. The building gives the rabbits great protection from the weather and the elements. But the skeeters are in swarms. I hate to use any chemicals/ sprays. Do you have any suggestions to help eliminate them ? I've even thought about moving them out of the building and under a lean-to? Good to hear from you!

      its never happened to me.....it happens when they are on bad wire soaked with hay, urine and feces from owners that don't take care of their livestock

    • @uftc1324
      @uftc1324 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sore hocks are caused by several things, none of which are from a GOOD CLEAN wire floor. They can be genetic but more often is caused by flimsy or rusted, wet or dirty floors where feces has been allowed to accumulate or something as simple as a rabbit that thumps at every sound.
      Rescue organizations have found rabbits living in filth in wire cages and those rabbits have often had sore hocks and the assumption was that it was caused by the wire floor. What caused the sore hocks was the build up of manure left wet by urine. When fur gets wet and soiled the fur develops a fungus that peels the fur away from the foot leaving it open to become infected. Rusty floors, even if kept clean can result in sore hocks from the constant abrasion and consequently infection.

    You should ABSOLUTELY not put your rabbits in a cage/hutch with a wire bottom. It makes the rabbits paws have very bad sores that are very painful. Please do NOT use wire for your rabbits flooring!!

      You obviously don’t know what your talking about. Rabbits can’t have wire flooring at all! It’s very dangerous and your rabbits will get hurt! They don’t need to be with you! They need to unfortunately be rehomed because of your bad care.
