This is one of ABBA's more folky songs, which was quite common in their early recordings .. But of course, being ABBA, they accomplished all their styles beautifully, and always with great melody and harmony .. A lovely song indeed .. Liked your reaction a lot ! .. Wayne

People Need Love is probably the most folky, very trad Swedish style, I forget the exact word. Friday yodelling at the end ❤️
Benny and Bjorn are very much folk rooted (also The Way Old Friends Do)

Dereck it is nice for an old-timer like me to see a young man like yourself who really knows ABBA and understands how great they really were, and still are. Bjorn and Benny wrote great music, and Frida and Agnetha sang so beautifully. They were a fantastic group.

This is ABBA in their early, "purer" form, with clear, clean harmonies and instrumentation, before they incorporated the massive "wall of sound" overproduction. I love their early songs 😍

I absolutely love these songs, the whole album, really. So beautiful, simple, and sincere . This album was released in Scandinavia and a limited number of other territories, including Germany, Australia, South Africa and Mexico, on March 26, 1973. It was a chart-topping album in Belgium, and a big success in the Netherlands, Norway and South Africa.

Dereck , as the same with "Arrival" , You are the first and only who did a reaction to these song too
    "Another town, another train"
    so nice and lovely song,
    from the first álbum
    "Ring Ring" (1973)
    when They called themself:
    "Björn & Benny ; Agnetha & Frida"
Björn did a beautifull lead voice
and Agnetha & Frida gives a fantastic harmonies in the chorus
I think is the same style as the future worldwide hit "Fernando"

This song is so perfect that any note is out of tune, very advanced for some 20-year-old musicians, so it is clear that they have an extensive musical knowledge. The chorus produces a lot of peace, especially since the same lines are repeated in different ways and there is a punchline at the end of the chorus with much more intensity, God, it's so full of harmonies that Bjorn's voice disappears in the choruses. It is so nice. I love this early track.

  • @danbike9
    @danbike9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Derek, That flute is a mellotron. ABBA used the mellotron on every song on their first album.
The mellotron is what the Beatles used on the opening on Strawberry Fields.
I recommend reading every single book by Carl Magnus Palm.
You will learn about EVERYTHING about ABBA. Too include the dark period of 1971, into 1972. They went from a foursome to a threesome. Frida left. It then was a year of negotiations with Frida and Stig Anderson/Polar Music to get Frida to commit.
Carl knows more about ABBA than ABBA does. ABBA tends to "forgot" some parts of their history and he reminds them.

    Re: Playboy Label.
Yes it was a record label. One of Polar Music's biggest blunders. 'People Need Love' was put on Playboy Label in America.
Eventually, Gorel Johnsen-Hanser, who Stig hired in 1969, who had just turned 20, eventually became Polar Music VP and handled the regional record labels for ABBA's licensing agreements.
Gorel was Stig's right hand. She ran the Polar Music admin: The regional labels around the world, PR, media.
When the world called ABBA/Polar Music, Gorel took those calls.
Gorel wrote no music. Wrote no lyric. Played no instrument. Sang no song. But she was the backbone/glue of ABBA/Polar Music.
The Grammy people noticed and awarded her a Swedish Grammy in 2017 for her work with ABBA, BB, Benny Andersson Orchestra, etc...
The unsung hero of ABBA. She was adored.
Stig, Frida, Benny, Bjorn and Agnetha in 1979, wrote a song for her 30th birthday and sang it to her. Also 50 blue vinyl record were pressed and given away at Gorel's 30th birthday party. Today that blue vinyl is extremely valuable.
    Gorel song is on TH-cam.

Bjorn has lots of leads with ABBA.ots on first album.
He was lead vocalist and songwriter with The Hootenanny Singers. Stig Anderson's Polar Music first signing was Bjorn's The West Bay Singers/ Hootenanny Singers in 1963. The first year any of the core members met each other, 1963, Bjorn & Frida.

    @danbike9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Re: Stig Anderson, The Boss!
    Founder -
    Sweden Music (publishing), 1960.
    Polar Music (label), 1963
Stig Anderson was a hit maker. Dominated the Swedish charts in the 60's. Started in the early 50's as a teen converting English-Swedish-English lyrics.
He was a songwriter, musician, series entertainer. He became a music manager in the 60's. All the best artist were attracted to Stig.

Stig may have been Polar Music but Frida had the pull. She knew the business. She knew her value. She was hesitant to join a pop group.
After a year, Stig offered Frida a sweet contract deal in 1972.
Frida accepted and committed and was all in. Stig scored a huge get - a vocal centric genre professional vocalist and front and center performer entertainer pro. He has his group. He eventually named them ABBA.

That song... I love its innocence! And it's available in German as well. 😉
Thanks for your channel and your love for ABBA. Really entertaining! Cheers from Germany! 🇩🇪

@Niclas Eriksson That's the best explanation I've read on how to pronounce Björn's name.

Great song, but let's face it, if they continued making songs like this, we wouldn't be having reaction video's about them now. Makes you face the fact they started in 1972/3 and here we are 50 years later with a new album in the offing.
