I love those PL adapter fluorescent light bulbs! They are such blink happy bulbs. Plus, they light up beautifully as well. Thanks again for sharing!

Parrot, the cracked brass base is doing what is calked “banana peeling, and it is because thin sheet brass is pretty unstable because of the zinc alloyed with copper, and the zinc being the unstable component. Old “pot metal” cast and die-cast zinc items often warp, crack, even crumble because of this and moisture in the air causes intra-granular oxidation which causes the zinc to do that. Even when alloyed with other metals it will happen. Also, the second cause is improper annealing of the thin brass during manufacture, if the brass isn’t annealed (softened) enough, it will be prone to splitting as well. I have very early brass shell lamp sockets that are way over 100 years old that are in fine condition, and much newer ones that are banana peeling badly and are scrap now. So proper annealing helps, plus proper lacquering to seal moisture out. Of course you can’t lacquer a bulb base that has to make contact. So a combination of moisture and insufficient annealing of the base is at hand here. I still have these too, but all are in my collection now. The only PL-13’s I still have in use are in “drum” fixtures in the basement, and those are probably gonna soon have 3500K GE LED replacement bulbs eventually, since most PL lamps have been failure prone since they reduced the mercury in them.

I have a ProLight PL adapter that also has a cracking base. Interesting to see another one with the same issue. Mine is an EC-300 “Flex-a-Core” IIRC, and it used to have a reflector attachment but I broke that unfortunately.
