Trio of walz#8 sounds to me like a dreamy melancholy epic passage typical of Schubert's late life

12:37 I don't know why but it made me think of a magical medieval castle or a Harry Potterish world.

@@Archiekunst That's because the harmony is composed of simple chords ; there are few dissonances and lots of open fifths. Those are qualities typical of medieval-to-renaissance-era composition. If you like this style, you should check out Brahms's op 10 ballades, especially the first one. He uses the same devices intentionally, to a striking effect.

Is there a score for the trio characteristique you transposed/composed. Very fine and in complete style. Thanks.

0:38 Why'd The Pianist play this a half a step down?

I never noticed that (no perfect pitch here). I just checked, I can't find any edition or manuscript with that Trio in F# instead of G... Mystery!

Probably to add color to it I guess

@@SPscorevideos Also a similar case happens in the Trio of The 5th Waltz, which is supposed to B-Flat Major. However, it was all transposed by the Pianist to become A-Flat Major.
