The best way to appreciate SMA's cinematography is to watch other car repair channels. The work he puts into getting camera angles, lighting, narration right is real craftsmanship. Eric O's videos are the best car repairs I've found on TH-cam.
Anxiously awaiting the video of your C4 removal technique! On a different note, I know you keep your comments about the world outside of "auto repair" to a minimum but I cannot help but note your thoughts on how the the Covid19 has affected everyone. "The ugly got uglier, the meaner got meaner, the gracious became more gracious and the nice become nicer," was one of the most succinct and insightful comments about the situation we all find ourselves in. Thanks for sharing - made me think.
I have watched each video S.M.A makes more the 3 times and I still learn stuff each time I watch. I may get in a dream world from time to time as I remember those mistakes I made on some of my d.y.I work at home. Thanks again for a great video.
This customer is very lucky to have you as her mechanic! Even though she neglects her vehicle, you look after her best interest and safety by doing quality work with quality parts. You do the fix that stays fixed. I'm impressed how you fluid filmed everything before the test drive. Too many mechanics would have thought it wasn't worth it. Thanks for making these videos.
thanks eric for the great job!!! we had taken her car to our local shop a lot and finnaly got tired of it not getting fixed not to mention the cost. I finnaly said call eric!!! you and doug are good people!! thanks again!!!!
I DIY and HATE working on dirty, rusty machinery. Your videos inspired me to be a better owner. After seeing the amount of dirt and rust you deal with routinely, I feel like stopping by the next time I'm in your area and giving you a chance to work on a 12 year old Honda Element with a relatively clean bottom side.
I'm about to do the same rear parking brake work on my own 2011 Santa Fe, as well as pop out the rear half-shalfs and replace both differential axle seals. I searched TH-cam a while back when I ordered the parts (OEM complete backing plate and brake assemblies, all pre-assembled) and this was the first video that popped up. It was this video that made me subscribe to SMAs channel, mostly because Eric O and I are similar in age, and we have similarities in our work habits and sense of humor. Even though I'm a carpenter by trade, MVR mechanical work has always been a passion of mine and was actually the first trade course I took after graduating high school. Unfortunately, I don't have quite the shop setup or vast array of tools, but I make do with what I have. Keep up the great videos and content SMA!
Hi Eric. On your lift if you hold the lock release button in when you raise the lift you won’t have the banging noise of the locks and you will be able to hear Mrs.O. when she’s yelling at you!! Have a terrific day Mrs.O. yes you to Eric!!
To quote Gen Mark Clark, "If it's not inspected, it's neglected !" Good job of not taking your own work for granted. I enjoy your work. I'd just add the qualifying remark to your sign-off. "If I can do it, you can do it, if you have the tools!"
I love your comment about the parking brake - I have always used mine every time we stop our car and get a lot of flack about it from other members of the family. I've never had one seize or act up after 44 years of driving.
Love watching you drive around town. You are correct that the mean get meaner, and so on. But the Lord never sleeps! Thank you for the history lesson about the church fire. Hope you and your family stay safe and healthy.
It's hard to say why Eric but your videos just have this 'feel' to them, honest work done properly and transforming that ladies car with work that is needed and worthwhile. I find some people tend to find one issue and then rebuild the entire car over there in the us of a! Those roads though, wow the holes ! I'm enjoying car maintenance right now because of the covid and not working but my wife's a care worker so I can't mess it up she's on call! It's a Skoda though, not very common but basically a MK4 golf so very easy to work on. Stay safe mate!
A simple one way check valve in your bleeder hose works fine. I use a hand pump to draw out the air from the caliper, it makes it a one person job. Some calipers can trap air in them if not using pressure or a hand pump, that air will not come out. Being sure the caliper is installed on the right side of the car helps. My first time doing a brake job as a kid I had the wrong caliper on so the bleeder was in the wrong place and wouldn't bleed. Yup, I was a real dummy back then. Now I can do a whole brake system replace in my sleep. I honestly think I have a few times.
Great channel! A friend watches it all the time, told me to give it a look. Great info, well done! Nice to someone dealing with our wonderful friends rust and corrosion. The new beet juice brine deicing formula is now making it worse!
they may have a hose on when trying to "gravity bleed" and that very often pulls small air bubbles in via bleeder screw threads and back out the hose. same for using a vacuum pump on them. I usually clean and anti-seize the threads, being very careful to get it on the end /very first few threads and possibly contaminate, or teflon tape/pipe dope again being careful to not contaminate inside the caliper.
I do the same thing after I service a clients workstation or their notebooks. Every screw I touched, and most of the time the ones I didn’t, gets gone over and double checked. Well done good sir
Thank you very much for treating customer's vehicles like your own. You are like myself, talking to your car when you are driving or working on it. Keep coming. Cheers and God bless....
That practice of gravity feed works very well. Liquid seeks it's own lever so, as eric explained, doing that process works just fine. Also, they sell a number of self bleeding tools so you can bleed your own brakes at any time, all by oneself. And most times, you are by yourself so, look into those tools. But, gravity bleeding helps to cut time down and you might as well gravity feed the air out, time is on your side!!!
Eric O always reminding me that I need to get under my old Dodge Truck with the Fluid Film. Blasted the frame and undersides last year with the Rustoleum flat black... seeing rust spots on the frame already. I love NY. Thanks for video.
Eric you run into the same issues I do and it’s good to know that I am not alone. I hope the customer with the Hyundai appreciates the fact that you extended its life at least another seven years. Great job.
Thanks to you Erik, I now know what the heck Fluid Film is for and why it works. And I used to sell it and had no idea what it was. Hilarious. Anyway don't worry about the sheep. The lanolin comes from their wool and that just gets sheared off without hurting the sheep. They have to be sheared like cows have to be milked. It's cruelty to not shear them. It only hurts them when you harvest them for food or skins. But even PETA should be fine with wool and lanolin products.
Nice catch with the brake shoe adjuster. Most would have never taken notice! Yep up North the hot wrench is the only way to go especially with exhaust systems! Enjoyed the video!
I had a '71 Plymouth Fury wagon. Guy I bought it from had put Keystone rims and air shocks on it. It was a mean beastie. Had the bumper that wrapped AROUND the front fender and the flip-down headlight covers were metal! You couldn't design a better car to kill garbage cans with. Metal, plastic, full, empty. Lights out! *Boom!* Lights on! Flee!
These are incredible value in an SUV. I have the same model but with the V6, easy to work on and good quality. Mine doesn't have rust like that though and we're not afraid of the salt here in Nova Scotia either. A little undercoating goes a long way to keeping the rust away.
Loved the test drive and after-drive checks. “....did I put the tires back on...? OK. That was hilarious!! So happy I have a screen protector on my iPad, because spewed grape juice on it, but easy to clean off..... Thanks for the great videos, Eric. Just great! You are one fantastic troubleshooter and mechanic.
Over the course of time I've worked in a shop or three and I can remember loving these dull routine jobs like this. I know each is different and and toys with you a little bit, but that is normal. Not every job has to a brain twisting Tasmania Devil that grins at you while munching on your favorite Craftsman ratchet. Good vid great test drive and take care and be safe.
I believe that 2.4L has the oil delusion problem, hence the gas smelling oil. Extended oil changes cause camshaft bearing failure and I believe it has a recall/class action on it.
I never see anyone using their parking brake.... Always see folks park their car, pop it in Park then let off the brake... Sure enough, car rolls forward or backward a couple of inches at least and then bounces off the Parking gear... I use mine all the time, even when level in the garage... But that's just me.. Learned it as a kid from mom and dad when they parked the car in the driveway. Just kept going with the tradition! Great quote on the whole covid deal.. Yes, mean people are meaner, and kind people are kinder... I have been noticing that since day one on this whole deal. Keep on keeping on..
Nice touch with little tour and history narration. Thanks, Eric, for the hugely informative videos, keep safe during this "interesting" time we are going through, greetings from a ridiculously locked down South Africa. Edit: In fact, lets say God's richest blessings to you, Vanessa and the little ones!
Thanks for the video, I not only learn something, my stress levels drop. BTW, I use my E-brake everytime for multiple reasons. Thank you for the time you spend doing this, I understand needing "me/quiet time" do what you gotta do to keep your stress down too. Take care.
Me time is good.way to go Eric. Great videos. Never miss an episode. Well u take care man.Hellow to mrs eric and kids Wonderful family u have .God bless yu and your family.
i have one of the early "CM" Santa Fes, with 2.7 V6 and manual transmission. Same body style. i've never driven one with the 2.4 litre I-4s, but it is really interesting how different the motor sounds compared to the 2.7 V6. i can barely hear the engine half the time.
glad im not the only one that lays that fluid film on thick under their vehicles. makes a mess since the dirt sticks to it but at least it keeps the rust at bay. gotta love good ol" PA road salt. As you know, that Oxy torch comes in awfully handy on most jobs up here lol
The sheep ranchers love you. The"Film" is made with lanolin which comes from wool. The sheep get sheared once a year and a high demand for lanolin means prices are higher!
You’re a great mechanic. Would be nice to have someone like you here that could work on my car. I can do a lot myself, but there are times I need someone else who has more experience.
Hopefully that's this month's bills taken care of ,great work , if the customer kept on top of the car repairs they wouldn't have to find a load of dish in one go , take care Eric
Nicely done, you seem to be in much better spirits, it's hard to stay upbeat in these times. No children were injured during the making of this video. 😂👍👍👍
I own 2 Hyundai's and love them,,, and I found this very relaxing and informative. One of these days I'll get my grandson to do some of that stuff on my cars. Thanks. We love your chanel.
Hey Eric O.! I love the channel. Learned so much even as an old man diy’er. I rotate every oil change and I get great mileage out of tires. Being in western Canada i also monitor pressures as inflation is also key. Keep up the great work!!!!
When you mentioned it, you reminded me of cars of my past that I would have gladly repaired with C4. Fortunately, I had no access to any. May you and the Lady V stay safe and happy. Thanks for sharing.
Love it. I have the same engine and it also seeps oil around the oil pan and the oil always has a smell of gas. Gotta love Hyundai/Kia and their Theta Engine.
@Jason Thang Used to have a 6 cylinder Chevy that did that, also around the valve cover. Every now and then I'd go around both choked up on a socket wrench and tweak the bolts until just snug, not gorilla tight. No leaks. Had to keep after it.
Diablo DS0614BF sawzall blade is amazing. Will cut thru hardened suspension bolts. Had to cut upper rear control arm bolt off. Fuel fill tube was right there, could not torch.
Question what is the best scope on a rope to preform troubleshooting. I watch a lot of your troubleshooting videos and would agree with you a 100% on the need for prints and other reference materials as well as diagnostic test equipment. I also agree on the may you pick a starting point to troubleshoot . Love the information on the Pico scopes the break out box for your Can_H & Can_L signals, Compression testing etc. Love the show down here in Alabama.
That has to be the most complicated way of having a handbrake on a car with rear rotors and expensive as well, 2 sets of brakes instead of 1 😳. As always great job it’s so nice to see a professional at work 👍🏻👍🏻😊😊
What a great job! That filter looked like OEM (as in the original, new car filter, never changed). Your commentary is better than any comedy show I can think of offhand. Your 'crows' bit had me howling.
Thanks for posting your videos! We always look forward to hearing your thoughts on things in general! BTW I made a note of the tires you mentioned, good tip.
I wish the lift would operate that fast (the sped-up part)! Mine gets SUPER slow in winter, but it's moving pretty good now that temps are up to "normal" again. I actually wouldn't want it coming down that fast - scares me. I've had an issue with the opposite side latch not releasing - talk about getting your heart pumping! Nothing like a 6k lb. pickup truck leaning towards you! 😲 By the time I realized it, it had a pretty good lean going!! Looks like a very similar condition vehicle as that '04 Highlander was that I got recently. I didn't dare go any faster than 40 in the thing, HAHAHA! The roar was deafening at that speed. I had a '06 Impala in here a couple weeks back for parking brakes. I couldn't get that POS system to do ANYTHING. That's the horseshoe style shoe. Total junk design. They were old rotors, so not ideal to start with. I burnished them a bunch of times - no change. Adjusted them a few times - no change. Have to pull the caliper off, and rotor to adjust!! Typical GM! Had them tighter than I liked at each hub, and had the cable pretty tight too. I think that's as good as that setup can get. Won't even hold the car at idle! WOW, that must've been one HUGE fire to melt the siding that far away!!! WOW!!! Good thing the shop and the car wash weren't in different places - things might have been alot different! Wifey has been doing the online church service, too. She and I are 2 different denominations. We got married in the yard here by a JP 16 years ago this past Friday to avoid the hassle of one of us converting to the other. I used to go to church all the time as a kid. Tough growing up in MA - I was the only one that did out of anyone I knew! There was alot of harassment from that, even from friends at the time - SAD!! No wonder MA is in the shape it's in today. People aren't just against religion up here - they get angered by it. Blows my mind. I should go, but I don't. Too much social anxiety. If I sit there quietly, I feel like an outcast. If I participate, I screw it up because I can't remember what I'm supposed to be saying or doing. I'm a psychologists wet dream, LOL. Way too much partying at way too young an age, and too much "stuff" that I hang on to. It's a blessing my memory is so bad - I've probably forgotten half the things that went on in those days. The other half of it is, most organizations over here are corrupt anyway, so I don't want to support that. I believe God understands where I'm coming from. I try to live as close to Christ's teachings as possible ... but I'm as flawed a human as you can find. I try! :)
Gravity bleeding is what my Mema taught me. Unless you are helping your Buddy with his car and it's BEER bleeding. New master cylinder, new calipers. 2 Beers until front was dripping fluid, 3 Beers until rear was dripping fluid. 👍 life is good
I run Yoko Geolandars on my Sequoia 4x4 and they do really well in snow and gravel roads of Kansas. Haven't been short on traction and they're pretty quiet on the highway. Not cheap though!
Years ago I used to rebuild automatic transmissions and when I would lay down to go to sleep at night.... I would go over the days builds in my mind to see if I forgot anything. Literally rebuild them in my mind again. Strange.....
Yup, although you know your good/bad on that first test drive. Its much worse working in the medical field. Review every detail, how you reacted, what you did and think if you could do anything better.
It’s when you don’t think about it when you forgot something. After rebuilding my front end on my truck I thought I was good, then the brake caliper bracket bolt came out on my way to work Monday morning. Whoops!
The best way to appreciate SMA's cinematography is to watch other car repair channels. The work he puts into getting camera angles, lighting, narration right is real craftsmanship. Eric O's videos are the best car repairs I've found on TH-cam.
Plus they don’t give you an upset stomach from jiggling around.
Some folks have a knack for the whole video/utube thing, Mr. O definitely does :)
Absolutely. Little editing too so you see complete process even if he makes mistakes and tell us how to correct it.
With NO annoying useless music
@@Sevan59 To me, the best YT channels just start the content, with a minimum of fanfare/music.
Anxiously awaiting the video of your C4 removal technique!
On a different note, I know you keep your comments about the world outside of "auto repair" to a minimum but I cannot help but note your thoughts on how the the Covid19 has affected everyone. Mr. O we need more people like you in this world...not just mechanics, but people. Thanks for sharing the "me" time....

My pleasure! It was fun job and had a good end result. I hope you and Mrs. B. were happy with it 😊

Don't despair, the weather's going to get much nicer next month. It's the 25th of May where I live and the weather has been great for a week.
That new air filter probably gave her another 20hp. That engine was chokin!
Now she shmokin!
May have been why the oil looked so thin draining and the gassy smell
How did it run

Growing up in Minnesota I remember getting snow in early May. I didn't mind cuz I love snow. Now living in Missouri we don't get enough to satisfy me.
I wonder what the cabin filter looks like. If it has one. Nice job Eric. I’m sure that lady will be happy with her car again.

Zen and the art of Hyundai maintenance...
Considering his discription of the vehicle in the beginning, not bad at all
Thank You Eric O. for the lessons learned and the video to keep us entertained
Could never complain about your workmanship Eric looks spot on to me 👍
Bringing my 1993 caddy DeVille from Indiana to the “So Much Attention” shop like this is you would watch a repair on a cam sensor and AC fix !

Diablo DS0614BF sawzall blade is amazing. Will cut thru hardened suspension bolts. Had to cut upper rear control arm bolt off. Fuel fill tube was right there, could not torch.
Good one Mr. O - and it was fun to have a little tour around your town. Avoca sounds like a very nice place to live, work and raise a family.
Thanks for the toot round town, made me feel warm in our down under winter.
All your videos are a pleasure to watch. Thanks.
that was one of those lifetime air filters! I have heard of them!
Hey, less air=less fuel RIGHT?
Is that like the lifetime transmission fluid!!! Hahahahaha!!!
The filtration grade improves with time.
Kind of wanted to see the 'clean' side of that filter too.
That was an N95 filter, nothing getting through no matter what.
Personally I think chrisfix has the best cinematography on TH-cam car repairs
Question what is the best scope on a rope to preform troubleshooting. I watch a lot of your troubleshooting videos and would agree with you a 100% on the need for prints and other reference materials as well as diagnostic test equipment. I also agree on the may you pick a starting point to troubleshoot . Love the information on the Pico scopes the break out box for your Can_H & Can_L signals, Compression testing etc. Love the show down here in Alabama.
Thanks for taking us through the whole job Eric. Enjoyed all 3 videos. Until next time....
That has to be the most complicated way of having a handbrake on a car with rear rotors and expensive as well, 2 sets of brakes instead of 1 😳. As always great job it’s so nice to see a professional at work 👍🏻👍🏻😊😊
Great video series and good advice from a professional. I appreciate the workmanship and pride you take in your work. Stay safe.
How could anyone honestly down vote anything from SMA? We must find a way of removing the "dislike" option.............and I ordered an SMA Tee Shirt!
Eric you've definitely reached the expert level. Good job.
What a great job! That filter looked like OEM (as in the original, new car filter, never changed). Your commentary is better than any comedy show I can think of offhand. Your 'crows' bit had me howling.
Thank you Eric. Good series. Have a blessed and safe week to you and your family.
I love how your town looks like any mid Michigan town near me. Keep up the GREAT VIDEOS!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!
Thanks for posting your videos! We always look forward to hearing your thoughts on things in general! BTW I made a note of the tires you mentioned, good tip.
Excellent series on this hi-un-day! Thanks SMA♥️♥️😀😇👍🏻love your stuff !
👍 life is good
That was the best after repair test drives. You had me LOL several time.
Love the "its a little underpowered"!! As its doing the 5000+ rpm 2 to 3 upshift!!
You are so fun to watch, So smart and very funny. Love ya dude.
Love your work. I understand the need of "me time" l think we all do. Hope you and your family are doing well.
I agree Steve Stay safe
Your thought on Corona affecting everyone is right on the money!
Nice little mini series on car repair 👍
I run Yoko Geolandars on my Sequoia 4x4 and they do really well in snow and gravel roads of Kansas. Haven't been short on traction and they're pretty quiet on the highway. Not cheap though!
Nice work Eric, That person is going to feel the difference.
Best tires in the United States is Falken Wildpeak!! And manufactured in Buffalo NY!
Years ago I used to rebuild automatic transmissions and when I would lay down to go to sleep at night.... I would go over the days builds in my mind to see if I forgot anything. Literally rebuild them in my mind again. Strange.....
Happens to us engineers too.
Yup, although you know your good/bad on that first test drive.
Its much worse working in the medical field. Review every detail, how you reacted, what you did and think if you could do anything better.
Yep. RV guys too. I have missed a lot of sleep in the last 25 years, wondering if I forgot something. TH-cam: All seasons Mobile RV Service
It’s when you don’t think about it when you forgot something. After rebuilding my front end on my truck I thought I was good, then the brake caliper bracket bolt came out on my way to work Monday morning. Whoops!
I always enjoy your videos. They're both informative and entertaining.
Looks like it's time to change the brake fluid on that one. Here in sweden that's a Bi-Annual service item on the Huyndai aswell as the coolant.
Gravity bleeding has always worked well for me. Being I do work alone and usually have no help.
Normally with gravity bleed works 95 percent of the time. Good work.
60% of the time, it works every time
