In the name of all that is holy, please bring Indycar back to Australia. We have so many great tracks that would be perfect for Indy. We have Adelaide, we have The Bend Motorsport Park, we have Townsville, we have Barbagallo, we have Philip Island, just pick one. I'd even settle for a round at Calder Park, just make it happen!
Curiously, it was Patrick's only win this season. There was a partnership with the Brahma Beer Network, which was known as the "Brahma Sports Team", a the partner of Raul Boesel and lasted for only 2 years (he was Green Team in 1996 and Patrick in 1997) and left for lack Of good results. The Brazilian already no chance to follow in CART wandered the IRL between 1998 and 2002 and in 1999 made his last appearances by CART, working for Green and All American Racers.
Some of the best days of IndyCar. C'mon, Indycar, please: make beautiful cars, without those hideous rear bumpers; simplier rules for scores: 20-16-14... and remove the artificial p2p. IndyCar will be more popular than F1.
8:10 I don't know how you can look at this crash and say these were Indycar's "glory days". Fittipaldi with two broken legs folded into his pedal box. Two wheels WITH wishbones flew off the car, along with a whole front wing with nose-cone...And the field drove through all of it at full speed. Racing is always going to be dangerous, sure, but this is just stupid. Someone could've easily died.
Wanderson Marçal in regards to push to pass, I think they should just give em a boost dial and let them run as much as they dare without grenading the engine
That would be pretty cool. Would make fuel mileage races even more of a cluster-fuck, too; turn it to full-lean and low-boost. Haha. Honestly P2P is fine in my book, though. It can be used offensively or defensively, and having it or not isn't a guaranteed pass, anyway. Just a small extra layer of strategy to consider.
20 years later, if you were to take these cars, update the computers and telemetry, and replace the god awful DW12.. you'd have more TV audience than F1.
@@downnice95the UAK-18/IR-12 will allegedly be replaced by the IR-27 after the 2026 season and so far it’s close to looking like a Champ Car, the UAK-18 could’ve been better but it does for sure look like a typical “Indycar” instead of an homage to a proper Champ Car. Let’s hope the series doesn’t go 50⛽️/50⚡️like F1.
Michael McIntyre unfortunately there's now a tram track that runs from where t2 is all the way down to where they would turn east to the beach. and that second long straight is only a tight one way lane next to the tram track which wouldn't be wide enough. there's still an annual race here for the V8 supercars but they altered the track to make it alot shorter. mabye they. could extend a new track further north to accommodate faster open wheel cars again.
@ERIC-65 It was a form of Champ Car before CART went bankrupt in fact I think they’ve always been referred to as Champ Cars before Tony George’s idiocy. I’ve been pretty confused about the name of the cars throughout history especially the old school Dirt Champ Cars and “Big Cars”. I think the “Indy” title was about who could capture the best revenue generator(the IMS) for their own series and combine them which later happened unfortunately.
8:44 whoever this airhead is that for some reason ABC replaced the best American racing announcer in history, the legendary Paul Page, saying re: Fittipaldi 'he looks like he's alright'. Um, no pal. He wasn't. He had a badly broken leg that caused him to miss the next six races and obviously ruined his season. Nobody that was a real racing commentator would make that comment after such a horrible crash and with a guy obviously in agony. I'd really love to know what happened with Page and why he wasn't back for the '97 season.
Paul Page i think had a commitment with Indycar so when they split he went with them. after his contract expired with IRL he went back to ChampCar, also Bob Varsha is a very good commentator doing things like IMSA, NASCAR and even 80s Indycar
Still incredible to watch these cars, these legends, and these races. It was eery to see Greg Moore doing so well, knowing what was coming... :(
R.i.p Greg More we miss you mate

What about Bathurst????
What a performance from Scott Pruett and his team. He's still successfully driving now.

Love these classics.
I love this legendary races! Keep on uploading Indycar!

The cars looked good and were exciting. But don't pretend it was all just smiles and sunshine.

They did say they were really looking into a cart like body style for 2018 for the universal aero kits.lets just hope that happens
90s Motorsport in its prime
They cut out the part where the CART drivers were hanging out at the beach! That was the best! lol
Disclaimer: This is the 1997 Sunbelt Indy Carnival Australia...
Parker Johnstone hit everything but the lottery that day.
and the safety car.

I heard 2017 is gonna be the last year of the DW12.
=) hopefully the 2018 cars will be more like CART

I believe that Paul Tracey was involved and caused more crashes than any other driver
That was a fantastic start!
When Mercedes-Benz motorsport was in indycar good moments
Some of the best race cars ever! I hate push to pass, I hope they get rid of it soon!
Start at 5:26
If I'm not wrong, they mistaken the pictures of Paul Jasper and Arnd Meier.
Thanks Indy!!!
That Greg Moore was a bit special wasn't he
greg was a beast!!! not everyday you see a driver on that level.
from 51min, did they forget they were still on air?? usually you hear these things watching a satalite feed when the tv one is on commercial
did someone ever noticed the simlar faces of Paul Tracey and Fred Durst :D
So... is this a tease that Surfers may return to the schedule in 2018???
Michael McIntyre pray for that...

NurbKingSim or go to Adelaide.
Surfers paradise will comeback to the 2020 season, that's for sure.
What if F1 started racing here in ‘96 instead of Melbourne???? 🤔
that would've been so good
old school
ONLY a broken leg??? ONLY? A broken leg is a big deal
Given the hit, it could have been far worse.
Nos 15 minutos
Wasn't that CHAMPCAR ?
CART. Before Champ car

Two white flags? Absolutely disgraceful
No it’s not considering it was a timed race. The officials just made a mistake in timing this particular race.
@schoolcraftT doesn't matter. It's the officials mistake.
If Pruett backs off thinking it's over then it should be backed up a lap and he wins .

Corrida bem movimentada, barbeiragem do Tracy (como sempre) e o Gil foi no mínimo péssimo profissional...
