Impressed? Go see what they did to John Lennon's Imagine. Then go see what they did to Daft Punk. Like rap? Go check out Can't Hold Us (Macklemore & Lewis). Want sass? Check out Problem (Ariana Grande). How about instrumental? They did a song that doesn't have any words... and won a Grammy for it... The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy. You have a long journey before you... enjoy!

I LOVE watching reactors react to this tour de force. Their production values are always so TIGHT & their talent undeniable. For fun, just because Christmas is coming, check out their rendition of "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch". If that doesn't put a smile on your face, nothing can.

Yeah, he ain't getting out of this lmao. The only way for him now is further down the rabbit hole. Is it too early to suggest the Star Vista to him? That is a serious Avi Knockdown and Mitch Slap combined.

Welcome to PTX rabbit hole. We Pentaholics welcome you but fair warning. Their excellence and
    Creativity is addictive and mind
blowing! They try always and especially
here to respect the original artists!!!
So. It’s all real. Just their voices
They only record what they can produce live. If they use an instrument. You will see it.
Mitch, Scott and Kirstie grew up together
And have been singing together since childhood..their harmonies are so tight.
Kevin the beat boxer is a for real genius.
He graduated pre med from Yale, spent a year plus in China and speaks fluent Mandarin. He has perfect pitch
And is a gifted cellist. On some of their
Videos he plays cello and beat boxes at same time🤯. Avi. Is a trained opera bass. He was PTX from 2011-2017
He left on friendly terms for family illness and then Matt became new bass
    Mitch and Kirstie change up
Their look in every video but it’s always them. Please play some more of PTX

    • @Spartan_777
      @Spartan_777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Kevin also plays other instruments...piano? Certainly Sax. He played Sax in Carnegie Hall as a teen (Cello too). Oh, and he has a beautiful tenor voice too. Thanks to Avi for bringing that out of him.

I've heard that Brian May put this out on his social media with the word "Enjoy." The starry sky was, of course, an homage to Dr. May who is an astrophysicist. Avi, dark beard, is an opera trained basso profundo and has been known to blow out speakers with his low notes. Kevin, beatboxer, is a true Renaissance man. Plays cello and sax, graduate of Yale in premed, speaks Mandarin and some Spanish. Mitch, counter tenor, has been called a chameleon as he may look different in every video.
The band has been together since 2011 with only one change in personnel. They have 3 Grammys, several gold and platinum albums, made several world tours with sold-out venues, appeared at the LA Forum and Madison Square Garden in 2019.

    • @drieuxkoeppel8152
      @drieuxkoeppel8152 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Remember Avi Kaplan amicably at the end of 2017. He was replaced by Matt Sallee. The only personnel change in 10 years. Kirstie and Mitch change their look a lot, from hairstyle, and hair color etc. They LOOK like new members, but the bass change is the only newish member!

  • @martinhafner2201

For some more crazy, they have done two EDM songs - Daft Punk : medley of 7 or so Daft Punk EDM songs (mostly French House) and Love Again, an original that is perhaps even stranger. Kevin works very hard on these songs doing synth drums, fades/drops and other special effects.
The arrangement of Daft Punk got them a grammy.

There is no need to apologize (in the text overlay). Be aware, we Pentaholics have seen these videos 100's if not 1000's of times. I highly recommend making the video 50% to 60% transparent so whats behind the video also alters what the algorithm sees. For the text overlay, I suggest simply put a few lines of info, like line 1: "Pentatonx covering", line 2 "Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen".

So...I REALLY NEEDED SOMETHING to make me smile today...THANK YOU! Nothing makes me smile more than watching someone get blown away by Pentatonix! I am sure I had the SAME kind of reaction when I watched this cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody" the first time! Like you said, there are SO MANY Pentatonix songs/videos for you to react to. It's hard to know where to start. But the REALLY GREAT thing is no matter which ones you listen to, it will be wonderful! For an original song, check out "Love Again". Again, THANK YOU for sharing your reaction to "Bohemian Rhapsody". I look forward to seeing more of your reaction videos!

What is most surprising to me about this song, and I am not disrespectful of what they did that won Grammy Awards (those three deserved it) was how this song was never even nominated for one. This one and the Prayer as well, plus a couple of their Christmas songs. Pentatonix deserves far more than just the three Grammy winners.

Avi Kaplan has the most beautiful basso profundo (super low) voice out there. There are others who sing super low, but Avi's is the smoothest, like warm chocolate. Unfortunately he left Pentatonix about three yrs ago. Fortunately he's doing solo stuff! I'm sure you'll enjoy his "Change On The Rise". th-cam.com/video/382BTxLNrow/w-d-xo.html

Although they've gotten a bit more experimental with their latest all-original album The Lucky Ones (as far as layering and effects on their voices that can't necessarily be recreated in an acoustic live performance), most of their catalog can be (and has been) recreated live by them. The few production techniques they use on their albums are basic layering, EQ, reverb and echo, autotune as an effect if it was used in the original song, and there was some distortion on Mitch's voice in the "guitar" solo to capture the rock guitar sound. But they have always prided themselves on being able to perform their songs live, many of them have been performed acoustically for private performances, and you can find them on TH-cam. They do this song live, without a backing track...including the operatic bridge, which was something even the great Freddy Mercury and Queen couldn't do.

Get ready to have your mind blown time & time again, coz every song they sing, whether it's a cover or an original(they have 2 entire albums of originals) will knock you out!! Also, the members have lots of individual solo YT channels, including a channel called Superfruit featuring Scott & Mitch, where you will discover the insane talent of each of them personally!! You may want to start by next reacting to "Ptx for Beginners". Now that you are reacting to Ptx, the pentaholics are gonna blow up your channel! (in a good way of course! Lol!) If you want to see where they came from, check out the journey on 'The Sing Off, which they won. However, a week later the record label dropped them because they didn't know how to promote acapella. So, the group took to TH-cam and started posing covers. Eventually SME picked them up but that's why they've stayed humble and so appreciative of their fans. The best vids I've seen of their journey are from mrduckbear, it's definitely a great intro to the group and a way to see how far they've come!

In an interview, Kevin (beatboxer) said that they did electronically manipulate Mitch's voice on the "guitar" solo to make it seem more authentic.. However, he still had to sing the runs and when they sing it live, it sounds very very close to this recording.

They undoubtedly are the best a cappella group in the world. So many good songs to choose from...where to even begin???
I recommend their Grammy winner Daft Punk and their 90's Dance Medley next. Their newest one "The Prayer" is one of their best works to date. It is definitely Grammy worthy. Welcome to the Pentaholics and I look forward to your journey through PTX.

The Grassi Guitar does not require a megaphone. It is just a prop to draw attention to who is making the sound. I heard it done live and it was EPIC.
This is the best cover of this song that I have ever heard. Most Pentatonix covers improve the original song but this song is so iconic that they could not improve it only come close to being as good.

  • @BelleDede01

I love seeing reactors' reactions when they realize that Kevin is doing the drum/cymbals sound, when they hear Avi's low 'the wind blows' and then the coup de grace, Mitch doing the electric guitar. Welcome to PTX and yes, it's all them. The only time you'll see equipment of any kind (like Kevin playing the cello), you'll see the instruments, other than that, it's all them and their voices and Kevin's voice and body. More of my favorites are 90's Dance Medley, Mary Did You Know, I just called to say I love you, oh and another great one is The Wizard of Ahhhs (in honor of Wizard of OZ the original movie). th-cam.com/video/QkVeKb2igrg/w-d-xo.html BTW, you could also watch the behind the scenes on how PTX did this video.

Love Queen - yes, Freddie was a genious - this is my favourite cover, and one of only a very few, very few, that the original is still the best (I mean, it's Queen!) - almost all of the time the PTX version is an upgrade (as many other commentators say) to the original. They recently did a cover of Somebody to Love, for a tribute TV show - there is a copy on TH-cam somewhere you may like to see - it's a great cover also! And if you like their talent and creativity, check out Love Again, an older original song of theirs that is fast, upbeat and a little crazy!

In an interview the group said they arrange songs with Ben Bram, their long-time collaborator. Then they rehearse, sometimes as much as 10-12 hours at a time. You may notice the bass in different in this video. Avi Kaplan was the bass from their founding until late 2017. Avi left amicably at the end of 2017. Matt Sallee joined them as the new bass for their Christmas tour in 2017. It may look like other members have changed. They have NOT. In particular, Mitch and Kirstie, change their looks frequently. So frequently we PENTAHOLICS call them chameleons. But Mitch, Scott, Kirstie (who went to the same high school in Arlington, TX.) have been with the group since 2011! Beatboxer Kevin Olusola has also been with them since 2011. Pentatonix never records anything they can’t sing live. I can vouch for them-I’ve been to two concerts so far!

The guitar solo is not a special effect, unless you count Mitch as "special" ... which he is, actually. You just got "Mitch-slapped" but don't worry, you're in good company. It has happened to just about every person doing a PTX reaction video.

Hello Harrison! Loved your reaction. Just discovered your channel and just watched your PTX Sound of Silence Reaction and now Bohemian Rhapsody. This is Pure Pentatonix Perfection. A Capella at its very best and redefined by PTX. So glad that you recognize their talent, their creativity and the hard work that they do. You are "super trapped" --- by Pentatonix --- LOL ---as are we all, and we love it. I laughed when you said the drums sounded "legit" that is the skill of Kevin. Then I thought, what will you say when you hear the electric guitar from Mitch. The definition of A Capella is "without instrumental accompaniment" but PTX have redefined this -- they don't only sing, the ARE the instruments!! Wait as you continue to discover the talent of each of them individually and all five of them together. You have about 200 PTX songs waiting for your reactions - covers and originals, more if you count the live performances that are must see. I see on the playlist that you have continued to react to PTX so I have subscribed to your channel to join you for this journey. See you down the rabbit hole. This going to be such fun!!

And in case no one mentioned it to u yet, there's only been 1 member change since 2011 when they got started. Any video 2011-2017 will have Avi as bass (guy with beard). Any video 2018-today will have Matt. He was the guy on far left in Sound of Silence. Scott, the blonde guy, will cover the bass whenever Avi or Matt sings lead. He has a huge range. If u react to their cover of Problem u can see how high he can go lol.

Guitar solo is Mitch's voice only -- for confirmation view the song performance LIVE (Evergreen tour I think)

Great reaction! Welcome to the world of Pentatonix and their Pentaholic fans. You may want to watch The Beginner’s Guide to Pentatonix to meet them and understand their beginning. They have a new song from their new album, Evergreen, out called THE PRAYER. You won’t believe your ears on this one.

Mitch's 'guitar solo' is pure Mitch. No effects. He's using the megaphone as a prop. Nothing more. AMAZING!

Greetings from Southern California. New sub here. I like to start at the bottom and work my way up. Since I know it helps I tend to comment a lot. I’ve been watching reactions for quite awhile now. I realize that it’s like hanging out with someone. So I only watch reactors that I enjoy. Since I’m off to the next one…I guess I like you. 🤣🤭

Apparently, the megaphone was literally just a prop (no effects). Mitch does this "guitar" in live shows too. He is insanely talented. They all are.

No it’s not a voice effect. The megaphone was just a prop. See the live version and you’ll get. 😂❤❤❤

Scott tall blonde and Mitch have known each other since they were 10. Kirstie joined them in junior high and they became the Trio. For the Sing Off they needed at least 5 members so Scott found Kevin the beat boxer on a You Tube channel. Then found Avi through a friend of a friend and Pentatonix was born. That's Mitch's voice, he does it on tours without the bullhorn. You should hear him when he imitates the noise a sharpie makes when your writing with it, or his whistle notes.

Their record label is heavy-handed with the copyright blocks. Keep that in mind when reacting to Pentatonix and use whatever workarounds that are successful for you.

I believe I read that Freddy Mercury had 3 or 4 partial songs in his mind he couldn't seem to do anything with, but were too good to just drop. They found a way to put them together, and the rest was history.

PTX ~ when they decided they wanted to do this they actually waited about five years before they really felt confident enough to produce it! Their hard work really did pan out for the best rendition I've heard! 😎
