I am an internal recruiter as well but I do not have a university degree. I will say most recruiters do have a degree although it is not impossible to get into recruiting without a degree.
I obtained volunteer experience in HR while also working sales jobs and I got a talent acquisition certificate from AIRS by ADP (They give a lot of different recruiting certifications). Sales is transferable experience and if you can also obtain a volunteer/internship to get some HR experience, and get a talent acquisition certificate, these together should help you to obtain an entry level recruiting coordinator role internally, than you just work your way up to the Recruiter role from there.
I have worked with many recruitment companies and good agencies are less sales heavy and it is more about finding the right fit for the right company. I also get calls telling me they have found the right role for me. This used to frustrate me but I have moved around a lot lately so I am more respectful these days. I don't do telephone interviews because I do not have to. If they have my CV I will come in but if they don't want me to that is fine too I will look elsewhere. Good agencies know their bank of people so when a role comes up they have an idea of who they want to fill that vacancy but obviously that is not always possible if the person is happy where they are. Also I used to travel all over the place to meet recruiters but now I make them come to me. I am happy as it is close and my local is happy for the custom :) Wait until you are more in demand before going down this route but I suppose I am less loyal these days so recruiters know I am easier to persuade having recently started another new job.

Funny how asymmetry of power works: company pays recruiter out of hired employee's paycheck, though, presumably, company needed that employee. The underlying model is that the employee needs the company more than the company needs him/her. If you're hired, you're not receiving a favor or bestowed a bit of charity. Employee is the resource.
The hiring company either has an in-house recruiter that they pay a salary to, either chose to work with an agency and redirect that budget to the agency. Either way, the recruiters' services are not paid from the employee's paycheck. Your employee paycheck is not affected by your employer's hiring method. And trust me: companies need you more than you need them, otherwise the whole recruitment industry wouldn't exist. As a company, it's hard to find the right person to fit your business and cultural needs. You cannot adjust your entire workflow based on your newcomers' skills, while as a candidate, you can easily adapt to your niche by juggling with your past experience and even learning new skills.

In addition, this young woman says that she does a telephone interview and 'if she likes the candidate she'll put them forward to the employer' is so arrogant (yet she seems to have absolutely no idea of this) and is the reason many employees and employers don't like agencies, and consider them to be parasites, living off the backs of other people. Hey Sandy, thanks for sharing this video and your work experience with us. Tomorrow, I've got a job interview for a Junior HR position. Would you give me some more tips to be successful on my interview?:) Danke dir!
Hey Sandy, hope you're well! I'm glad you've brought up this topic, there's so much I have to talk about, hence I hope we can have a bit of a discussion and learn from one another! Firstly. What does the company you work for do and what trades/professions are you usually involved with hiring? Secondly. As you know, I'm a regular watcher of your videos and I often like them and comment on them and I think you do a great job on your channel! Hence please don't take the opinions I'm going to express personally, I'm not trying to be offensive by any means. I'm just expressing my experiences and I'm hoping we could discuss and learn from one another! So, I’m a mechanical engineer and most of my colleagues and friends from uni are engineers as well (from Australia) and most of us hold a lot of resentment towards recruiters…. We feel as though recruiters (in Australia anyway) don’t have the slightest clue about the position they’re trying to fill, applicants are just numbers to them, they only skim over applications and don’t take the respectful time to asses applications properly and they select application based on whether the application has particular words in it, not the actual content of the application. I say this because there have been so many times where someone I knew got a particular position in a company who only made it through uni because they copied other people’s assignments. And for the same position, some of the guys who got rejected were some of the best engineers in my cohort… As you can imagine, we apply for very specialized and specific positions within companies. We only know that we’re qualified to work these positions because of the 4 years of engineering studies we’ve completed. So I just don’t understand how someone with a degree in HR or recruitment is able to hire the right person for the job if they themselves don’t understand what the job entails. For example, when I write a CV or a motivation letter, there’s particular terminology that I’d use that someone in HR or recruitment just wouldn’t understand unless he or she also has a degree in mechanical engineering. Lastly, this is something that really annoys and disappoints me, the lack of respect many recruiters have for applicants. What I mean by this is, when an application of mine is not successful, I get an automated rejection email, this is fine. But when I email the recruiter back asking about why I was rejected and how I can improve on future applications, I expect at the very least reasoning for my rejection. Instead, I either don’t get a response or I’m usually met with an email along the lines of “Unfortunately your application didn’t fit the position”, yes I know that, but why….? This happens so often….. We put in so much time and energy into applications, if you (not you in particular Sandy, but a general recruiter) reject someone, at least have the decency and respect to provide some advice or reasoning so the candidate can improve and learn….. Sorry for the super long comment, but it’s a topic that affects me and many of my friends and colleagues and unfortunately it’s been a pretty rough ride for us. Once again, please don’t take it personally. I’m not trying to be harsh or offensive, I’m just shedding some light on my experiences. Hopefully we can make a constructive convo out of this! Ahh, also, one thing I just don't understand here in Germnay. Why do recruiters expect a photo on your CV???? :/ It's just so wrong, in my opinion. You should be selected on merit, not on how you look..... Have a great day! :)
+Akshay Malde 3 easy answers for you ;) 1 - I hire for marketing, finance, product, hr, sales, insights and strategy :) 2 - I know how you feel but this must be agency recruiters ;) in-house you would never get this treatment - at least not from people I have met 3 - No idea about Germany :/ so sorry but I never worked there

Recruiters, I'll let you in on a secret. Most people seeking jobs pass right by listings that don't list a salary. If you're too embarrassed to post the lowball salary, jobseekers certainly won't waste their time looking at your job listing.

I am from Spain. I do not have any problems with my English tbh. I don't like bragging, but it has been 18 years since I first started with the language, so, in my case, everything is fine in relation to that :). As my mom usually says 'You will never do anything if you do not lose your shyness,' and she's definitely right. Trust me, I am always afraid of asking for things, but that won't take me anywhere. I am almost done with my bachelor's thesis, so I hope to be in London in November :). Idk what the future will bring to me, but I am willing to know ;).

+Akshay Malde 3 easy answers for you ;)
1 - I hire for marketing, finance, product, hr, sales, insights and strategy :)
2 - I know how you feel but this must be agency recruiters ;) in-house you would never get this treatment - at least not from people I have met
3 - No idea about Germany :/ so sorry but I never worked there
Hi what questions to ask ? How to communicate
Do recruiters do all the HR work while they're working for the company ?
and there was this one time, at band camp, we was like robots and we had no mind of our own, we just followed,
I was wondering if you could look over my CV and let me what you think based on a UK prospective, since I know CVs are looked at slightly different there than here in North America
Hi Nick, I will do a video on how to write the perfect CV next week :)
+SandyMakesSense awesome. Thanks. I know the UK and North American recruiters look for different things on CVs and I've thought about moving to the UK. You're awesome.
What kind of company you work at
The main prerequisites to being a recruiter are , you have to be dishonest and be good at lying , and pretend to be an expert at everything
hi, i got one recruiter online.. and i talked with him as well, and skype too..he has his own wesite too.. but he asking me to pay first to become his clients..i have doubt wheather he is fraud or not..is it okay if i pay on his account?
no. don't pay at all. sounds like a scam
Are there any internal recruiters left in post? I predict a lot of their CVs flying around for the next few months.
whats is the average salary for recrutier in EU and US
Hey! I am from India, and I am a associate recruiter. I work in an US IT Recruiting Firm/Agency... I love my job too. Cause it's not at all like selling services, rather I always feel like helping the job seekers. And yaa I feel great if I get any opportunity to communicate with any high profile candidates.... I really liked your vedio. I am wondering if I can get some help to understand the corporate sector of UK, cause I'm planning soon to move there.
Sandy, I've got a question: how often do the british companies hire foreigners? is there any chance for a foreigner to get a job in London?
+Vlada Moklyak Hi Vlada :) I have made quite a few videos about that :) they hire foreigners all the time :)

Can introverts be a recruiter?
hi sandy do you recruit jobseekers from Asia ?
What was your specific edge when you got your job. Did you bring clients in or something?
Thanks, that's really interesting.
Hi Sandy I would like to ask u about all challenges or difficult situations that u face in that career, and how u get over it?
Thank you for this video! I am on LinkedIn as well. Can you kindly give us any tips for building an appealing LinkedIn profile? Thanks! xx
Hi, can you please tell me do Recruitment consultants need a college degree to work for recruitment companies?
Recruiters, I'll let you in on a secret. Most people seeking jobs pass right by listings that don't list a salary. If you're too embarrassed to post the lowball salary, jobseekers certainly won't waste their time looking at your job listing.
Do you travel as well?
Hi Sandy, How can i contact you?
Although I am not looking to find any recruiter jobs(not now) I enjoyed watching this video. Just out of curiousity, which uni did you go to?
#SandyMakesSense @SandyMakesSense I´ve got a question. Could you name alternative in-house companies similar to what you work in? So I can try to aim at the same kind of in-house and not at an agency... Wish I´ve seen the video earlier..
+Sophia Nouri Hey Sophia :) most company's have their own in-house function nowadays :) the bigger the more likely
#SandyMakesSense, Hello Sandy :) thank you so much for your reply ^^
Hi everyone. I would like to know what's the hardest part of being a recruiter or hiring people.
Thank a lot :)
What company do you work for if you don't mind me asking?
Does it produce residual income or is it a one time
recruitment
Depends on your contract. My agency charges 10 percent first years salary
I am an immigrant aspiring to work and live in guam, can you give me a link about how to apply
Hi! Amazing video Sandy. I am planning on moving to London in November. I am not going to apply for a recruitment job, but I'd love to work on the film industry or something related, as I have a Uni degree in Film,TV, and Media. Any ideas? I already looked up at some firms such as Warner, HMV etc. Hope I will be lucky enough to find something in my field or something that I truly enjoy doing :).
