He got on very well with Prost as well. In ‘83 I think it was, when they were fighting each other and the Ferrari’s for the title. Piquet invited Prost on to his yacht in Monaco for lunch. This was also done to piss off journalists who were trying to make them out as bitter rivals.

That's because these days sponsors are very quick to leave drivers who don't have a squeaky clean and politically correct image. Back in the day, F1's main sponsors were cigarette companies, which didn't really care what the public thought about the driver they were sponsoring, as long as a lot of people saw their logo and got hooked on their brand of nicotine.

Just so snowflakes know, Senna didn't actually sleep with Nelson's wife and Nelson didn't believe Senna was gay and Senna obviously wasn't.
The video fails to mention, just like Piquet patched things up with Mansell, he also said that "of course" (he respected Senna). He said: "I didn't like him personally, but he was the best at driver the time".
Asked if he thought of creating his own team, just like Emerson did, he said "yes, I chatted with Emerson about it, but I wasn't going to drive for my own team like he did".
And followed with: "I wanted Senna and Schumacher to drive, but Senna was the greatest at the time and Schumacher was the young blood looking for approval, so I could never afford one (Senna), while I'm also sure he would decline, and I'm not sure that other would want to risk his future (Schumacher)".

@@chrisc475 Lewis Hamilton beat record young double world champion Fernando Alonso as his team mate at McLaren in 2007 when Hamilton was a rookie. Hamilton had three team mates who were champions themselves. Almost all of Schumacher's team mates had never even won a single race when they became his team mate at Benetton and Ferrari. Hate to say this but drivers like Martin Brundle, Riccardo Patrese, JJ Lehto, Jos Verstappen, Johnny Herbert, Eddie Irvine and Rubens Barrichello don't compare to Fernando Alonso in his absolute prime, or Nico Rosberg, who did quite easy work of Michael Schumacher at Mercedes in 2010-2011-2012.
Imagine Max Verstappen facing a 2018 season where Alonso, Raikkonen and Vettel had all retired and Lewis Hamilton tragically died in an accident?? Well, that is EXACTLY what happened to Schumacher in 1994. Prost, Piquet and Mansell were ALL retired. When Senna tragically died at Imola there was literally nobody proven to hold him hack. Fact is the very next race at Monaco in 1994 only had 4(!!) former winners. Schumacher, Hill, Berger and Alboreto. Nobody else had even won a single race.
Senna dying gave Schumacher two titles way more easily. In fact he might not even have ended up at Ferrari in 1996 because Senna had an agreement he would join Ferrari after having won 5 titles. In fact Senna didn't even care whether he won another title with Ferrari or not as long as he finishes his career racing for them.
When Hamilton won his 2nd title for Mercedes in 2014 he faced a four time champion with 39 wins (Vettel) a two time champion with 32 wins (Alonso) and a one time champion with 20 wins (Raikkonen). Hamilton himself only had 1 title and 21 wins at this point. Who did Schumacher face a comparable field in his 1994-2004 title years??
Senna beat Prost in the same car in 1988.
Hamilton beat Alonso in the same car in 2007.
Who the heck did Schumacher ever beat in the same car??

The way he can turn it on when needed, preserves the tyres, races cleanly and has been improving year on year for the last decade is unprecedented.

Excellent video. Really enjoyed it after a long days work, sitting up in bed. Thanks for the entertainment.
It has to be mentioned in regard to Piquet vs Mansell. Frank Williams was the worst, the very very worst at managing his drivers. Enzo pitted his drivers against each other, so no surprise in the outcomes. But Frank just made some real shocking driver management decisions. Maybe a video on this would be good. Great work.
P.S. Mansell mania at Silverstone in the late 80's and early 90's was just phenomenal. Sure, Hamilton gets good support, as did Button and Hill et al. But Mansell...... really, the crowd were manic in their support. The atmosphere was awesome, like being in a rave, a huge sense of bonding existed in the stands. I hope we get that again. Maybe Russell can deliver that one day. I think the Brits could warm to him, and he looks like a driver who goes for it, all the time, like Mansell. He also has had some awful luck, just like Mansell, and the Brits love getting behind this type of driver. Viva the underdog who always goes down fighting to the last, balls to the wall.

I'm from Brazil and one thing I can say: Piquet has a serious problem in his relationship with people inside and outside the F1 circus. Whenever he can, he criticizes someone harshly:
Prost: ugly man, unable to win over a woman, scoundrel who stole his own friend's wife.
Senna: hinted at his masculinity and accused him of driving only in teams with a fast car! (????)
Mansel: Donkey, lazy, didn't know how to adjust car setup and liked ugly women.
Barrichello: Bad pilot who made a lot of mistakes.
Emerson Fittipaldi: He won races and championships more by breaking other cars that were ahead of his own merits. (!!!!)
Enzo Ferrari: he was a senile old man
Galvão Bueno: (F1 narrator on Brazilian TV) Idiot who did not know the F1 technology that only spoke nonsense.
As you can see, Piquet is very unwilling to deal with people.

On reflection, with age, and re-watching the 80's races, I reflect differently. He was really great at Brabham.
