    Why not have a drop down menu with a choice of 3 band sets? Choose your color, and choose your bands. Put your ammo recommendations next to each choice. That would give you a much better chance of making a greater percentage of your customers happy. You have laid out the problem correctly, I would love to see this solution even if it raises your prices a tad, or slows shipping a smidgen to make it happen.

      A drop down menu choice for bands would not be the worst idea.. as I can relate as I mostly use .5m bands for a semi long draw. However,as Nathan pointed out bringing in new slingshot customers who are not yet familiar with bands in general,this would most likely only cause unneeded angst, and for those of Us who have a preferred thickness.. well I could use the precut .5mm for target popping, but as I've progressed I also find I'am using the same ammo size with a more drastic preferred taper together for more consistent results. I still switch things up & will shoot different ammo w/different band thicknesses& the tapers I feel perform best,.As for the '11mm.' bands SimpleShot so thoughtfully sends with each new frame,as not all Companies send you Any bands,.I'll make use of them possibly on a wrist brace frame or simply to sling some heavier steel/lead. It certainly is a conundrum 'lol. we're all at different levels or on slightly different paths with our slingshot journeys,I'am looking forward to seeing the sport grow here in the U.S as well as abroad an hope I can be as much of an ambassador to that as We all should.

    As I've observed, when I gift someone a new SimpleShot slingshot with the bands, I explain band tuning as if was talking to a 3rd grader than confuse them even more with jargon. Most times it works. Ex; "Your bands are like a V12 engine, and you want to use it on a hatchback with those clay balls? Your tiny car's just gonna go flying all over the place with no control. So, either you change the vehicle to a Truck or change the engine to a 4 cylinder". That's when they usually get it. I'd include a sticker or a pamphlet in the package with a visual recommendation of what ammo goes well with the stock bands. It's cost effective and useful. New shooters wouldn't know the difference between 5/16 to 3/8 to 7/16, so I'd use a truck and tiny car as an easy reference. Hope it helps.

    I love black bands that come with the frames. I shoot 3/8 steel and have no issues, but I'm not a top level competitor either. I shoot for fun at 4" spinners, and have about a 75% hit rate so far. Perhaps I'll get more picky later on...

  • @emersonb5764
    @emersonb5764 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    If making a selector drop down for what bands will come with the frame isn’t feasible, maybe instead of 2 sets of standard bands, put in one set of standard and one set of lighter bands like the “target” ones

    I bought the Hammer master collection a few months ago. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to use...Full length stock bands, very easy to draw to cheek. The hard part is keeping an eye on the 5/8" marble it just launched...Can't wait to tune! I encourage people to research before making any purchase. Every adult should be aware of draw length and shooting types and variables before making a purchase. Not necessarily know them but be aware.

    This is such a good video. I’m on the side of always thinking your bands are too heavy. I just put this down to Americans being American, you know … bigger is better. But now I know you’re in a bind and you’re kind of damned of you do and damned of you don’t. You do a great job of pointing people to info when they’ve bought your products, maybe you could do something similar when people are buying them. Ask them what size ammo they want to use and point them to a video explains why you ask this, and why bands are best matched to ammo.

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Chris! We agree, 7/16 is indeed to much, but you are RIGHT on. People really do want power. When we put a lighter band in standard, we get complaints that the bands are too weak.

  • @siddarthgrewal

    What I normally do is narrow the taper sent out with bands that come with the slingshot as they are grossly high on resistance not resulting in significant increase in velocity. High resistance really degrades your accuracy. So I believe everyone needs to find their Goldilocks spot and Nathan your videos are quite informative in the journey to enjoy this hobby.

    Thankyou for an honest answer to a difficult subject. I understand that telling someone the truth about what they need in a hobby that for most is misunderstood can be a problem. I had a hobby shop owner tell me that he told new customers the truth twice and if it didn't work he sold them what they wanted. I too have a huge collection of those bands ( 36 sets). I like Jb42942's suggestion it might be more work in the short term but I would bet that you would sell more latex if you did that. If had to judge your latex by the bands that came with your sling shots I would not have tried your latex. Thanks again for an honest answer.

    i make and sell a couple slingshots here and there. I sell them all with target bands matched more or less to 9-10mm clay and 8mm steel. hunting bands can be bought separate. I feel that the lighter bands let folks concentrate on form and accuracy, and let hunting and power come later.

    This is a real conundrum, for sure.
    I have been telling inquiring/potential new shooters to always order an extra set of lighter bands for learning proper form and conditioning the small muscles they will certain be over working due to enthusiasm. Haha...
    And when I get the .7mm sets I either add them for a new shooter gift package (for the same reason. New people have that heavy draw weight experience and expect it) OR I take 'em apart and make some lightweight bands out of 'em (or some wrap-n-tuck ties).
    It is, to me, a mild inconvenience at most. Also I usually am ordering a roll of latex anyway.

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, bands and pouches are consumable items.
    You may get 500 shots, you may get thousands of shots out of a bandset. Many factors dictate the longevity of bands and pouches.
    Many new shooters pull out the wrist rocket that’s been in the closet for 5 years and the band still “work”- might not be safe, but it’ll put marbles down range.
    Moving up to adult slingshots, they expect the same. Throw the sling in a hot truck and 7 months later expect the bands to be in new condition. Doesn’t work that way.

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  ปีที่แล้ว

      So true. We say this all the time, but it is a common misconception among beginners that bands last forever!

    For a good all around band the .5 target bands are fantastic for .177 BBs, clay, 1/2” marbles and 5/16 steel. I just cut the bands shorter when using the heavier ammo.

  • @tonykenaston4048
    @tonykenaston4048 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I love the current bands sent because I like to shoot 3/8" (9.5mm) & 10mm steel ammo the most. I shoot at steel cans and need full penetration (both sides) from a minimum of 15m distance. The stock bands sent are a good value. I love that they are sent long & can be shortened for the individual, but I leave them long for my Ocularis models. Stock pouches are terrible, though, just my opinion.

    So I have an exceptionally long draw length if I draw to underneath my eye. I’m used to shooting traditional archery and my draw weights are anywhere from 65 to 95 pounds at my draw length, so anything on a slingshot is easy. That being said, what would be the optimum performance for my cleaver pro? I am a newer shooter, but the same philosophy of matching draw weight draw, length, resistance, and ammo weight is far more critical on a traditional bow, especially when you have to consider Archer’s paradox and then spine wait and flexibility of an arrow shaft. So a slingshot is simple by comparison, what would your recommendation be? Thank you

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to match the bands to the ammo you are using. The ammo weight is the factor. Here is a link to one of our FAQ Articles that goes into more detail.

    I understand using under-powered bands can affect projectile trajectory by making it curved, but what effect does over-powered bands have on the projectile?
    Edit: this helped answering my question. th-cam.com/video/BZ07ZSqbhGE/w-d-xo.html
    th-cam.com/video/2OkV6Eh6nDg/w-d-xo.html
    In a few words, if the ammo is too light for the bands, the unused energy makes the bands hit the frame with more force, decreasing the life of the bands. The projectile trajectory is not affected. Accuracy is affected because of the amount of force applied when pulling the bands, which can make the shooter shake a little.
