It’s simple: if CC plays in AU, everyone will watch it and Unrivaled is done. 3v3 is not as exciting as 5v5. And there are actually a lot of good players in AU. I’m hoping she does it if she doesn’t want to go overseas. A mini Fever team would be incredible. They are going to need to find much bigger venues for these games if that happens. Just no Christie Sides please. She can take the winter off.
This is almost exactly my same feelings on the issue. Get Clark, Boston, Mitchell, Hull, Wheeler, Dantes, Temi - run all the core Fever players together in whatever league, or touring Europe. 100% the best thing to do for the chemistry and money.
Hopefully she doesn't go to unrivaled, leave them to it.. She should do some media, and rest a little, then do some pre season warm up games, she can make more money doing TV, and events
OMG. I LOVE THAT IDEA. The Fever become like the Harlem Globetrotters, but playing for real. They travel all over the world playing exhibition games. They should play all over the world, could be good will ambassadors. However, the team might get sick of each other having to spend the whole year together. But there should be some happy medium. If the Fever scheduled JUST ONE GAME in BERLIN, they could fill the biggest stadium. And they could do that multiple times. Mick--maybe you are the guy to set up the first exhibition game. Set something up in Ireland! Then you could take the offer to the Fever main office.
I’m just guessing but since it’s 3v3, they have the support of the WNBA. If Stewie and Phee tried to start their own 5v5 league, they will be likely not supported by the WNBA because they could be seen as competition.
I don’t think she should play in unrivaled this season. Let them try to get ratings up against the NFL playoffs without her. I have seen some athletes, unlimited stuff, they do some softball that’s pretty good that’s on ESPN. But if I was CC, I would not help them promote a new league when they want to run me out of their league.
I like your idea the best. Caitlin should have trainers, especially a strength trainer that specializes in injury prevention. And Caitlin could work with a coach that can help her hone her skills, like Kobe. But mostly, she should "come back rested and strong."

Why the heck should she need to play in any of the off season leagues? She doesn't need the money, lessen the chances of getting an injury, and concentrate on specific training like increasing strength and stamina for that fast ball play.
I dont think she will play anything. While her friends may want her to, she doesnt need to. And I think now is the time she needs to start thinking of security issues. I think this coming off season theres going to be an uptick on incidents, especially out of the United States. I think she is smart enough just to use that time to do busy things and work with her teammates,at least the ones that are available.
I would not even be surprised if she did want to play in Unrivaled, but is waiting until after the season. 1) talking about joining another league before finishing the season is just a distraction. You know she'd get questions about it. \ 2) waiting is a good publicity move because announcing a week or so after the finals means not competing for attention with the WNBA playoffs, and the focus would be entirely on Unrivaled. Whether she plays or not, the best move is to hold off on announcing anything until later.

None of the players you mentioned matter as far as Unrivalled success other than Clark. If Wilson, and Sabrina, and all the other top players did Unrivalled, they will still fail miserably without Clark.

Maybe the safest option is for The Fever to travel the World and play inter-squad matches. The Fever can have two 6 player teams that rotate with each game, or have two rotating captains that pick the teams for the next match. The Fever would play in Big Arenas, make a Big pot of money, promoters and workers get a big cut and The Fever get a Big cut, split evenly among the 12. The Fever get a traveling vacation, good paydays, form a common bond, and eliminate the risk of intentionally dangerous play. The Fever can invite the rest of the league, next year All teams will do European and World tours except for players that commit one or more Flagrant Fouls during the season.
CC is the only person in the WNBA that does not have to play in any other league. She has to travel with a bodyguard/s. The only person in WNBA who has to do so. No other Professional Sports league has players playing in other leagues. It doesn't improve them. Most WNBA players do so because they need the paycheck. CC does not. Having time to herself will do wonders for her mental health. And going by her Iowa career, she needs the breaks. She can improve herself by watching film and training without going anywhere. It is ridiculous. The only reason she should play for another league is because she's done with the WNBA.

In other words it matters not one iota who actually scores the points, it only matters that your team scores more than their opponents ! The best games are those that are close and keep you on the edge of your seat ! Harder to watch perhaps but ultimately far more satisfying than a walk over, particularly if you emerge victorious. Watching exceptionally tall people barging eachother about under the rim is boring. The AU league is basically the month of feb. Its a perfect warm up with a break before WNBA training starts. So you still get a break. The AU is domestic, so no leaving the country. I will admit clark can make way more money if she formed an exhibition team and played some games in europe. It's self advertising in europe. hat said, traveling internationally is what players want to avoid.
AGREE! CLARK was targeted and subjected to numerous non basketball plays in this country, I shudder at the thought of the physical abuse she’d endure overseas. Whatever else the team does, I want all of them practicing lay-ups and working on jumping. There are way too many missed and blocked layups. This team gets 10 more wins if they stop the bad layup attempts. Better Jumping, with most of the league not jumping, gives the team a huge advantage. Keep the team together on a team tour and they can work on everything, team related. Another mid west great went on a national tour after his first year to great success, changing professional football forever. The Fever could easily be the first profitable franchise. With the price of tickets, sell seats to practices for a great price. USE the stadium, it was designed to host basketball games! Last time Clark played in a stadium they set an all time attendance of 55,000+.
Who says Unrivaled is a formidable league? They could totally fall on their face before the season even begins. They can even recruit enough quality players to announce.

I’d like to see Clark work on her handles. She got stripped too many times for an elite point guard. Work on her midrange which is better now than before but a stop and pop would make her almost impossible to guard and work on finishing with her left hand. She has everything else from an offensive standpoint. Then next off season she can work on her on ball defense and sliding her feet.
I would love to see her, Lexie and Grace work out together. Specifically, I'd like to see Caitlin and Grace pick each other's brains and work together on each other's weaknesses. Grace has great handles and I believe uses her left better than Caitlin. However, Caitlin has that deadly cross through that she could work with Grace on to get her better on it while perhaps Grace could help challenge Caitlin use her left better. The bottom line is, if Mitchell stays, these 3 could be a GREAT rotation with Grace even subbing for Lexie at times. Grace was picked #7 last year and was GREAT player at IU and still is. Sides not using her has diminished her confidence. The last game, Grace just wasn't herself because her minutes weren't there this year. She passed up opportunities that in the past she takes. Think of it, Caitlin had to overcome Sides while ON the court. Grace had to try and deal with Sides sitting on the bench as a 1st round draft pick! That's a crime and many of those Hoosier fans know it.
@ronsmac If the coach next year, (let's hope the organization has a brain) plays it right, Grace will be the 1st option off the bench and they need to have her RUN the offense just like Catlin. Run it...run it... run it and run it some more. Run Grace at that point so that when she comes in to the game, other teams will be crapping their pants like....ohh sh*t! There's TWO of them now? Plus Mitchell? And Grace can defend too! Get a coach to implement that and watch out! Starting five...Clark, Mitchell, Lexie, Boston, and if Lou comes back to form, she starts. If not, Temi starts. Saxton is your number 7-8 player. Gone are Smith, Wheeler, Wallace and depending on what's there in the draft, Dontas goes too. If she cannot be replaced via the draft or free agency, she gets a pass. Same with Saxton but most of these other players are on the cheap.
I feel 3v3 is going to be rough on bigs, more speed, more iso work, so ball handling and movement would be more important. That is unless a lot of cherry picking occurs.
Mick, become a sports promoter and set up a meeting between the fever team and some EU clubs. Someone just needs to champion the idea and see if it gains traction
AU looks like a much better format that plays real basketball. She would get a better deal with AU due to her fan and tv deal draw. She would also be able to play her style of basketball with more players around the league. AU is like a player ran pre-season. Her and aliyah could announce games together too as AU has players giving commentary.
If the individual player wins but not the team, how will it foster Team Play? I hope CC does NOT compete in this league, they don't appreciate her but they NEED her for visibility, NOPE, TOO BAD!
I greatly prefer the 5 on 5 format. I found the 3 on 3 games in the Olympics totally unwatchable. They looked like neighborhood pickup games. I would like to see them go to fixed teams.
Whatever Caitlin does, the refs for her offseason play cannot tolerate flagrant fouls. If a player does an Angel Reese headshot block or an Alyssa Thomas pick with shoulder to the head, that player is Out, Permanently Out.
AU is an amazing, booming, solid organization and if she played there I would be so happy. I’ve watched AU basketball a lot in the past but I watch anything AU softball for quite a few years now and love it. At first the captain, points thing is different but once you get used to it it actually brings something fun and different to the sport while still making it super competitive. Also players/captains are the coaches. Legit what CC would thrive in. It would elevate an already positive and growing organization so much if CC played AU.

Playing exhibition games against Euroleague teams is actually genius. That would be awesome! Caitlin has international fans. Pretty sure these teams could make up a good portion of the money because of fan attendance. I mean I’m from Romania. Definitely easier to make it to a game somewhere in Europe than the US.

I was thinking of Europe and an exhibition w iowa players and those fever players who want to go and make a cc team for big dollars and exposure for everyone. Glad to hear such a thing exists. Cc remembers her friends. Cc always knew she wasn't playing in unrivaled league but played these haters along bc they were going to ruin her if she didnt. This is bigger than about a league and that is why the closer we get to playoffs and end of season cc getting beaten up again and attacked even harder bc she still has not said yes to the haters. I think Unrivalled needs Caitlin far more than Caitlin needs Unrivalled. Caitlin can do whatever she wants to do, it could be an hour of her playing dominos and I would probably watch it. I would not even be surprised if she did want to play in Unrivaled, but is waiting until after the season.
1) talking about joining another league before finishing the season is just a distraction. You know she'd get questions about it. \
2) waiting is a good publicity move because announcing a week or so after the finals means not competing for attention with the WNBA playoffs, and the focus would be entirely on Unrivaled.
Whether she plays or not, the best move is to hold off on announcing anything until later.
With the right marketing firm, anything is possible for CC.

It's only a matter of time until the legaue is expanded well beyond 40 games because people want see Clark.
Maybe the safest option is for The Fever to travel the World and play inter-squad matches. The Fever can have two 6 player teams that rotate with each game, or have two rotating captains that pick the teams for the next match. The Fever would play in Big Arenas, make a Big pot of money, promoters and workers get a big cut and The Fever get a Big cut, split evenly among the 12. The Fever get a traveling vacation, good paydays, form a common bond, and eliminate the risk of intentionally dangerous play. The Fever can invite the rest of the league, next year All teams will do European and World tours except for players that commit one or more Flagrant Fouls during the season.
CC is the only person in the WNBA that does not have to play in any other league. She has to travel with a bodyguard/s. The only person in WNBA who has to do so. No other Professional Sports league has players playing in other leagues. It doesn't improve them. Most WNBA players do so because they need the paycheck. CC does not.
Having time to herself will do wonders for her mental health. And going by her Iowa career, she needs the breaks. She can improve herself by watching film and training without going anywhere.

A comment that makes zero sense ....... "Dominating" means different things to different people. Basketball is a TEAM game. In other words it matters not one iota who actually scores the points, it only matters that your team scores more than their opponents ! The best games are those that are close and keep you on the edge of your seat ! Harder to watch perhaps but ultimately far more satisfying than a walk over, particularly if you emerge victorious. Watching exceptionally tall people barging eachother about under the rim is boring. Fans want to see players leaping like Salmon and hanging in the air, dribbling past players with speed and guile, length of the court passes, behind the back passes, and logo 3 shots......... know anybody who plays like that ? 😘
The AU league is basically the month of feb. Its a perfect warm up with a break before WNBA training starts. So you still get a break. The AU is domestic, so no leaving the country. I will admit clark can make way more money if she formed an exhibition team and played some games in europe. It's self advertising in europe. hat said, traveling internationally is what players want to avoid.
AGREE! CLARK was targeted and subjected to numerous non basketball plays in this country, I shudder at the thought of the physical abuse she’d endure overseas. Let her work on her game , play golf with her pops, Mexico with Lexie, RETOOL/REGROUP/?RECHARGE during off-season. ADDITIONALLY, WNBA season expands to FIFTY games next season.
Whatever else the team does, I want all of them practicing lay-ups and working on jumping. There are way too many missed and blocked layups. This team gets 10 more wins if they stop the bad layup attempts. Better Jumping, with most of the league not jumping, gives the team a huge advantage. Keep the team together on a team tour and they can work on everything, team related.

The Fever could easily be the first profitable franchise. With the price of tickets, sell seats to practices for a great price. USE the stadium, it was designed to host basketball games! Last time Clark played in a stadium they set an all time attendance of 55,000+.
Who says Unrivaled is a formidable league? They could totally fall on their face before the season even begins. They can even recruit enough quality players to announce.

I’d like to see Clark work on her handles. She got stripped too many times for an elite point guard. Work on her midrange which is better now than before but a stop and pop would make her almost impossible to guard and work on finishing with her left hand. She has everything else from an offensive standpoint. Then next off season she can work on her on ball defense and sliding her feet.

I would love to see her, Lexie and Grace work out together. Specifically, I'd like to see Caitlin and Grace pick each other's brains and work together on each other's weaknesses. Grace has great handles and I believe uses her left better than Caitlin. However, Caitlin has that deadly cross through that she could work with Grace on to get her better on it while perhaps Grace could help challenge Caitlin use her left better.
The bottom line is, if Mitchell stays, these 3 could be a GREAT rotation with Grace even subbing for Lexie at times. Grace was picked #7 last year and was GREAT player at IU and still is. Sides not using her has diminished her confidence. The last game, Grace just wasn't herself because her minutes weren't there this year. She passed up opportunities that in the past she takes.
Think of it, Caitlin had to overcome Sides while ON the court. Grace had to try and deal with Sides sitting on the bench as a 1st round draft pick! That's a crime and many of those Hoosier fans know it.

If the coach next year, (let's hope the organization has a brain) plays it right, Grace will be the 1st option off the bench and they need to have her RUN the offense just like Catlin. Run it...run it... run it and run it some more. Run Grace at that point so that when she comes in to the game, other teams will be crapping their pants like....ohh sh*t! There's TWO of them now? Plus Mitchell? And Grace can defend too! Get a coach to implement that and watch out! Starting five...Clark, Mitchell, Lexie, Boston, and if Lou comes back to form, she starts. If not, Temi starts. Saxton is your number 7-8 player. Gone are Smith, Wheeler, Wallace and depending on what's there in the draft, Dontas goes too. If she cannot be replaced via the draft or free agency, she gets a pass. Same with Saxton but most of these other players are on the cheap.
I feel 3v3 is going to be rough on bigs, more speed, more iso work, so ball handling and movement would be more important. That is unless a lot of cherry picking occurs.

I greatly prefer the 5 on 5 format. I found the 3 on 3 games in the Olympics totally unwatchable. They looked like neighborhood pickup games. I would like to see them go to fixed teams.

AU is an amazing, booming, solid organization and if she played there I would be so happy. I’ve watched AU basketball a lot in the past but I watch anything AU softball for quite a few years now and love it. At first the captain, points thing is different but once you get used to it it actually brings something fun and different to the sport while still making it super competitive. Also players/captains are the coaches. Legit what CC would thrive in. It would elevate an already positive and growing organization so much if CC played AU.
3 on 3 is just not "Basketball" to me, I wouldn't watch it "much" even with CC there. It's like watching street ball or practice

Playing exhibition games against Euroleague teams is actually genius. That would be awesome! Caitlin has international fans. Pretty sure these teams could make up a good portion of the money because of fan attendance. I mean I’m from Romania. Definitely easier to make it to a game somewhere in Europe than the US.

I think Unrivalled needs Caitlin far more than Caitlin needs Unrivalled. Caitlin can do whatever she wants to do, it could be an hour of her playing dominos and I would probably watch it. Honestly though the only way I will watch Unrivalled is if Caitlin is in it, the other players are just not that compelling to watch.

Caitlin shouldn’t play for any league. Start her own team, play an exhibition schedule. Ten to fifteen games in six to eight weeks. I like the idea of primarily using Fever players.
