Had me drooling! I used to work for an Industrial Supply House here in Atlanta. One entire row was fasteners of all kinds. The rule was if you needed one or two just pocket them 'cause it was cheaper than doing the paperwork (and we weigh scaled them all every year anyway). 😁
You should use Large Concrete blocks for your flat shooting berm. You can purchase them from a concrete company. They are around 4'L x 3'H x 2'T, with ridges and grooves to interlock them. They also have a loop on the top to pick them up. You can then put the RR ties in front and replace them as needed while keeping the Structural integrity of the Berm.
Anyone even knows how long these train ties last?? Even when used by a train track they last 7 to 10 years with severe pounding on it day in day out. And are only replaced cause of the safety for the train track. So they probably last for 20 years over there without problem. Especially between gravel and rocks. If water flows away easily they will last realy long. They usually rot because they lay in water when it rains. I think the retaining wall wont hold much water. Also wood absorbs bullets better than concrete.
@@Syphirioth I have a RR tie back stop for shooting and I only shoot a few full magazines a month and I have had to replace 2 ties after 2 years of shooting. For that retaining wall. Those 4 and 8 foot sections locking it in to the hillside CANT be EVERY row. You’ll need to do it every 4-5 rows so that it interlocks in with the gravel and actually holds it in place. Doing it every level will provide very little structural integrity compared to alternating
as a Architect and builder with engineering experience as well, I fully endorse the proposal to alternate your horizontal anchors into the berm. It allows the weight of the berm itself to act as a cohesive structural unit and give more friction to locking around the anchors.
