  • Atomic Habits (James Clear) was one of the most influential books I have ever read. I even made my very first video on this channel about lessons learned from Atomic Habits. But how does my life look like a year after I read this book? Am I still using the advice from James Clear? Is my life better? More productive? What habits do I follow and with which habits do I struggle? Watch to find out!

I just finished the book about a week ago. I changed two things right away. I made sure to put the book I was reading on Goodreads in the “currently reading” status. After I read each morning, I immediately update my progress on the app and get a hit of dopamine from watching the “percentage read” change. I also set up a system for saving for my camper/trailer. I get to transfer $5 to savings each time I don’t order food but make homemade food instead. I love watching my camper account grow. So I’m mastering the rewards right off!

This is a great update ! Your daughter is so adorable😊 I think it is wonderful you got back into your groove soon after becoming a mom. I implemented a lot of great habits and was really on a roll. Then I got ill for over 8 weeks and still have not recovered completely. I still tried to persevere through exercise on days I didn't feel horrible. But after being ill so long, I feel mentally exhausted. So given myself a break until I feel mentally recovered. I am going to start simple 10 minute workouts just to get back to the routine of some exercise every day. Starting small. Dusting off my copy of atomic habits. Thank you for posting. Helping me to refocus.

I’m about half way through Atomic Habits and I’m really excited about it. I was curious to know what other readers learned, and found useful, over time. So, this blog was right on target. I appreciate your honest assessment very much. Like you, I’ve always been pretty organized and ambitious, but I’m finding many things in the book to be inspiring. The concept of making progress with even the smallest step in the right direction took tremendous pressure off me. Moving forward is the goal...not necessarily achieving some specific milestone. Thanks for your video.

Hi, Mariana...new subscriber here. James Clear's book is a tool I became aware of late last year. Reading it, does influence our thinking about "Goals", VS small , incremental change'...that fact changed my perception of how to implement my mission. Habit stacking tool' is a gateway to being more productive...toward that goal...small "G". My "Goal" is to be a Presenter concerning the building of the "Original Transcon RR" ...quite a change, in addition to being a technically-minded health care Professional. Thanks, and your video helps keep small goals in mind, vs "massive" transformation.

I’m using James's habit tracker printable and it’s helping me with a couple of habits. I’ve flossed every day this year and take my vitamins daily too, which were both hit and miss before. I have the floss beside my toothpaste and my vitamins out beside my kettle in the kitchen to make it easy and obvious. I get up early and read instead of scrolling email’s and social media.I prefer reading to exercising, sorry, but I am trying hard to identify as a walker and am getting out most days for a walk when the weather isn’t too rainy. I also have been doing a little Spanish every day after subscribing to Memrise and it’s fun and I sometimes spend longer than the 10 minutes I set out to do.

Hi, Mariana! Thank you so much for your video, I've subscribed. I'm still reading the book, but I can share my ideas regarding reading you're struggling with. I wasn't reading, because my workplace was in our bedroom. All the fun during the day was in the living room, therefore I couldn't make myself go to another room and read. So I moved my desk and my coziest armchair to the living room. While everyone is chatting, I read. We've also got a kitchen and a living room combined into one space, so I can see whatever's happening in the main area and read at the same time. Since you've got a small child, this strategy might be beneficial for you as well. Thank you again and best of luck in all your goals!

Earlier in the book, James Clear referenced how the conductors of the Japanese railway system has the interesting technique called the "Pointing-and-Calling". It seems silly at first, but for me it's a nifty lifehack to incorporate before I leave my house or dorm room. It can also be helpful to apply for the one percent rule when reflecting on improvising those habits. On another note, I never realized how important any environment is when it comes to utilizing cues to act on particular habits. Makes me realize how better off I am studying in my room instead of the library if I do a better job organizing things in a certain way and get rid of as many distractions as necessary. Don't even get me started on the 2-minute rule. I've been incorporating that since high school (sort of) but never even realized it. Needless to say, Atomic Habits changed my perspectives on discipline and success drastically. It also revived my habits for reading in general. James Clear is the *goat* for publishing this work.
