  • This video explains what positive reinforcement is using dog training and other day to day examples. It also covers the reasons for this to be the most fantastic option to use when we intend to maintain or increase a certain behaviour in the future.

Another great video with great tips, thanks! I have used positive reinforcement throughout my puppy's training. It definitely worked.
Quick question: what about when you want the opposite, to stop a behaviour? My dog is getting into her "teen" behaviour and has now started to bark whenever she hears someone outside at the floor lobby of my building, or when she saw the window cleaner's hanging outside the window, or when someone knocks on the door. She'll immediately stop when you call her out and calm her down, but she continues to do it whenever those situations occur. Maybe make a video about that! 😊 Cheers.

Thanks for your positive feedback. Super appreciated.
Regarding your question, there's a few things that can be done, but I think the most meaningful one is to look at the antecedent for the behaviour. What triggers it? If you know that, you can then desensitise and countercondition to that behaviour or simply teach an alternative behaviour. Another way to think about it is that if you are trying to address barking once the dog is I'm front of you barking you are already late. Reset and come up with a new approach.
I actually have a scheduled video for December on that topic, so stay tuned.

[CORRECTION] The Definition of [POSITIVE] for the context of Operant Conditioning should actually simply be " To add something to the situation", without the "desirable by the learner" part. In the context of explaining [POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT] I think it is okay to include the term "desirable by the learner", but please note that the "desirable" portion of the definition would not be applicable to [POSITIVE PUNISHMENT].
