    Dig out the nasty gray mud, spread out the pretty red clay, fabric, and stone, and POOF, it's a road!

    What kind of rock is that you use for road base all the time? It looks great! We don't have rock like that down here in Florida. They always bed our roads with limerock which does compact real good but kind of washes away real easy when it rains. Limerock only works well when it's covered by asphalt. If you try to just have a bare limerock road it ruts and rills and develops that washboard surface after driving on it a bunch and the rain causes massive pothole craters in random places. Wish we had rock like you got up there.

    • @doolittlegeorge

      Doesn't get any better than lime rock properly compacted. Best roads on Earth are in Florida.

    You never mention costs of job. I get that might be sensitive information and or depends on landscape and scope.
    But would be informative to know a rough estimate on what is being done. My dream of owning some land and a lake is far behind me. The idea of people buying land and then having one built is impressive. This person for Instance. I’m thinking that road alone costs as much as my home or more. A home that’s in supposedly wonderful California in “Surf City USA”. Means nothing to me. When are you going to start your project now the house is done?

    • @mikel9567
      @mikel9567 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cost is more about covering expenses plus adding 10% (or so) for profit. Not sure what this would cost where he is, but in my area a job this size could easily stretch anywhere from about $60k to over $100k. But we would be doing more work too as we are considerably more wet and would have to stabilize the road bed differently.

    Is there a sense of "touch" or "calibration" between the actual pressure the shovel and tongs produce and the hand controls in the cab? Or is that just something the operator learns over time ... after crushing a few culverts?

    • @Suedeman
      @Suedeman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is no feedback through the controls. Depending on what you're doing you can feel the impact of the bucket when it touches stuff or hear the hydraulic pump load. However if the resistance put up by what you're hitting isn't very high you could crush it and not realize till you hit the dirt

      You saw how easy it was to dig it then lay the pipe,now imagine trying to get a good pack around it while grading in a long run of clay and not crushing the pipe. Part 2- Clay doesn't absorb much water compared to topsoil and such so it makes a good road base,and pond liner,and dam. But don't take my word for it,I'm just a damn dumb drywall finisher.

      Driveway Fabric
      Heavy-duty woven driveway fabric helps a gravel driveway resist weeds, ruts and potholes while significantly increasing time between resurfacing. For a very long lasting gravel driveway install our fabric with Ground Grid which greatly reduces gravel migration. When placed underneath asphalt or concrete driveway, the fabric helps to reduce cracking which extends the life of the driveway.

    Thank you Chris for making videos everyday. It makes my day to watch what you can do with heavy equipment. You are so talented and skilled. Is there any heavy equipment you can't drive. Stay safe.

    Good job 👍🏻 What is the black fabric that you spread and what's the purpose of it?

      It keeps the stone from squishing into the red clay.

    Chris try rolling your moboard back a little bit more, your trying to lay material with blade on edge, it's better back, finish grade can use edge more vertical, shaves better. Roll back prevent blade fro hopping. Dose your moborad has hydraulic tilting system.??
