This series is genuinely one of my favorites on TH-cam. Idk what it is but just having a concise highlight reel celebrating the year in music is so fun to go through. Happy to see you're keeping it going!!
Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess was on repeat the entire end of the year. Chappell Roan is an amazing artist and performer. I got to see her in October and I just know I’ll never be able to see her in that small of a venue again. She needs to blow up.
Also saw her in October and same! I've been following her for a while now and I just can't imagine she doesn't blow way up after touring with Olivia Rodrigo
I stumbled upon her a few months before her newest album dropped and was shocked I’d never heard of her because she’s just that good. I had Red Wine Supernova and Casual on repeat the last half of the year.
Daft Punk's marketing team was having a home run celebration of 10 years of RAM until they said "you know what, FUCK drums!" and now everybody resents them
My favorite opening track of this year was absolutely De Selby Part 1 - Hozier. That transition into Part 2 makes me start floating the second I hear it Edit: I also wanted to say I really love First Light as a closing track. I highly recommend the album Unreal Unearth to anyone who reads this and hasn’t listened to it!
Unreal Unearth was my most listened to album this year. The transition from De Selby Part 1 to De Selby Part 2 is something I wish I could hear for the first time. Also, I really love the Irish singing in Part 1.
The Yukika, Chappell Roan, DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ, and Yves Tumor shoutouts! I cannot overstate just how much I look forward to these lists every year. It's not just the snappy editing and clever quips, I always walk away with a wealth of new music to check out. Can't wait for the top 10 list to drop!
I listened to the Corinne Bailey Rae album after watching this video and it was DEFINITELY a highlight from this year I almost missed. Thank you very much for your service Mr. The Snare 🙏
1:56 I agree that Troye Sivan’s “Got Me Started” really should not work, but it really does and is such an ear worm EDIT: I mostly listen to Pop and am not a music nerd who knows many artists from multiple genres; i respect them but could never gain that wide of enthusiasm. It was nice to see Troye Sivan, New Jeans (I am not on TikTok, so it might already be overplayed, but give “ditto” a chance it’s nostalgic in such an addicting way), and Chappell Roan (I was listening to that album yesterday; “casual” is narratively engaging) have a mention.
Best opening track for me was De Selby part 1 + part 2 by Hozier, absolutely my jam. I feel like no one talked about that album except for me and my friends...
I haven’t listened to much pop punk since my Green Day phase in high school but that album absolutely floored me, it has everything I want from an album and is my aoty fs. Highly recommend!
Album of the year for me is DEFINITELY The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess but I'm excited to check out all the rest of the stuff on this list I haven't heard yet!!
I LOVE YOU FOR OPENING AND CLOSING THIS VIDEO WITH KNOWER!!! I just discovered them this year and I love everything Louis Cole and his merry band of musicians touch!
i saw the "best opening tracks" category and immediately i was like "okay he has heard 3D Country surely he shouts out 2122 here" and the very next song was 2122. Well deserved, it's a crazy opener that sets the tone for the rest of the album.
Gotta love shoutouts to Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and Hideki Naganuma he is probably my favourite video game composer with JSR having my favourite game soundtrack of all time. Eternally underrated even if everyone knows it lol
I can't stop listening to Cowboy Nudes, glad to see I'm not the only one who loves those harmonies. So excited for this whole vid, I get so many cool recs.
As someone who almost exclusively listens to Kpop, your best of lists are a great way for me to check out new music/artists I wouldn’t usually encounter. Thank you for your videos, I love them
This is one of my favorite videos every year, because like MAN, I thought I kept up pretty well this year but Mr. Snare is always here to let me know I actually have no idea where to find good music and catches me up on all the kino I missed. Thank you Mr. the Snare 🙏
I completely understand the Pregnant Goat Award for this year. I just saw the album appear on my recommendations when it first released and immediately thought, “Why?”
MODEL/ACTRIZ!!! Such a good album. I saw them at a 20 person show in Burlington and that legit was one of the most amazing shows of all time. They already sound amazing on the album but it is 50x better live. This is something you have to listen to
i’m late but i love your music taste and can’t wait for next year’s. thank you for all your hard work this year! you’re one of my favorite people on this platform
My absolute favorite song (I think you would classify it as a "banger") is Begin again by Jessie Ware. The last two minutes on the album version are a level of pay off that was unmatched for me in music this year
THANK YOU MR. THE SNARE you're like the only music youtuber whose opinions I genuinely care abt and listen to, your year end lists are always super well thought out u inspire me to think about music more deeply thank you again from the bottom of my heart for everything you make
I love these videos, it's such a great way to experience music I missed throughout the year and introduce myself to new music. Ebony Eye from Yves Tumors 'Praise a Lord...' and Thick Skull from Paramore's 'This is Why' were my favourite album closers this year, disappointed they weren't here!
The Connie Bailey Rae record has me wanting to check out more of her stuff cause this is some wild music for someone with a coffeehouse hit from the 2000’s
As always, a lovely mix of familiar faves and a big bag of fresh tracks I can't wait to dive into! Tbh, this is better than Christmas for me. Thank you for introducing me to so many favorite artists I'd never know otherwise! (I know this sounds like a chatbot but I promise I'm a real human Mr. Mic 🥺 just trying to spread some joy!) Also speaking of Tears of the Wild, did you know the Zelda games are apparently considered retro now? Yeah, I'm crying too.
RAM Drumless us a record I like mainly because I knew what I was getting into; it's a neat little bonus, nothing more, nothing less. As a DJ it's also nice just to have official decent stems.
I don't know what it is but lately mic has peppered in more homestead runner references in to his videos. It's like he rewatched some archival footage or something.
your lack of videos summing up your thoughts on recently-released albums is still a bummer just cause your thoughts are always entertaining to hear about, but i totally get it. and hey, we still get these. love these. end-of-year list season rules and in terms of music, you do it the best IMO. been waiting to hear you praise the caroline polachek album all year
This video was so much fun, I always look forward to these. I just wanted to listen to every song/album on your list as soon as it came up, and I had heard very few before now. Thank you!
God that National album (Laugh Track) was really fantastic wasn’t it? Alphabet City is one of my favorite tracks of the year. Also delighted to see Cold Reactor from Everything Everything on there, but you NEED to go listen to the follow up single, The Mad Stone. It’s a masterpiece.
9:45 I've kept hearing pieces of that song on radio ads through this year but bever the full thing and without mentioning its name or artist, so thanks for showing the latter here. Now I can look it up.
Surprised the Foo Fighters saw no love for at least best closer, Rest is one of the most soul crushing songs I've heard from this year. Love the McKinley Dixon love though, your first coverage of him put me on and he deserves all the praise he's been getting.
NOOO NOT DRUMLESS RAM 😭😭😭 also one of my favorite albums of the last 15 years. I missed this release. And… god why??? Least necessary is a perfect way of putting it 😭
My AOTY is undoubtedly STRUGGLER by Genesis Owusu, no clue what genre it is (Funk? Rock? Indie?), but it is magnificent, from bangers like "Leaving the Light" to jams like "What Comes Will Come", magnificent album, 9/10
Can I just say how happy I am to see NewJeans and Yukika on here? I always come to your channel for music I've missed or not paid enough attention to, and for explanations of why exactly I love some songs or artists as much as I do, and I've always felt the lack of kpop. Not that everyone has to like it or anything, but it's such an eclectic and varied industry and I've always wondered which aspects of it you'd enjoy. So yeah, super happy to see some tracks on here, and I hope after your learning to like kpop video you've found even more to enjoy 😊
Agree that "Running out of Time" by Paramore was a best banger this year. I've never had a better time dancing in my car while also being faced with the fact that I'm letting everyone down.
Great video as always, always good to see your choices. Here's a list of some of the highlights of music for me this year, some are additions to categories from your list, sorry if it seems a bit long: Albums that weren't released in 2023 that I fell in love with this year: Bossa Nova 2001 - Pizzicato Five Long Season - Fishmans Stereo Type A - Cibo Matto AMERICAN GURL - Kilo Kish Best Tracks off an album/EP reissue: "Workin' Hard" - Mariah Carey "Flavour of the Month" - Rina Sawayama "Alice Through The Looking Glass" - Prince "007 (Jersey Mix)" - Duckwrth Best Bops/Jams/Bangers: "PARA PARA" - CHAI "EAR CANDY" - Towa Tei "On My Mama" - Victoria Monét "No More Lies" - Thundercat & Tame Impala "sever the blight" - hemlocke springs "Pearls" - Jessie Ware "Gold ~Mata Au Hi Made~ " - Hikaru Utada "4EVA" - KAYTRAMINÉ "Discoproof" - La Roux & Chromeo "Vertigo" - Duckwrth "Lipstick Lover" - Janelle Monáe "Spinning Globe" - Kenshi Yonezu Best Anime soundtrack that isn't The Boy and The Heron: Blue Giant - Hiromi Best Experience with a first listen: "O.P.A." - Towa Tei "The Sacrifice of Victor" (Live at Glam Slam) - Prince & The New Power Generation Best soundtrack to a TH-cam Documentary: A Dream Calls - Defunctland The 0 to 100 Award for unexpected opening lyrics: "Alright" - Victoria Monét Best Album Opener: "Float" - Janelle Monáe "That! I really like these videos as a companion to your album of the year lists. Top tens are fun and a good place to talk about the things you really liked, but videos like this are a way to show off more of your music taste. I think that’s healthy for anyone to do. Most years I haven’t listened to any of your top ten albums, but I accept that we have different tastes, and I think that’s a much easier viewpoint for people to have when you step back (i.e. make this video) and show that you have a much wider taste in music than just what is represented by the top ten. I see where our tastes overlap, I see the stuff that I might have missed; the stuff you didn’t put in your top ten but maybe I would have put it in mine had I heard it earlier. There’s a lot of good reasons for these videos to exist.
Ah, my favorite time of year. End of year music lists - so much I likely missed but some bangers and hits I didn't completely miss out on! Thank you Mic
Thank you Mr. The Snare I can finally listen to music from this year
I can finally get Old Town Road off repeat and find some track without a Maserati sportscar
theneedle who??
This series is genuinely one of my favorites on TH-cam. Idk what it is but just having a concise highlight reel celebrating the year in music is so fun to go through. Happy to see you're keeping it going!!

aged AMAZINGLY
WE WERE HERE FIRST HA 😎
Thank you Mr. The Snare for acknowledging our Eurovision 1993 reps, Ms. Electronica and Mr. Timez
YEAH, as a 90s baby I was literally raised on DJ Crazy Times!
Daft Punk's marketing team was having a home run celebration of 10 years of RAM until they said "you know what, FUCK drums!" and now everybody resents them
Not me lol. But RAM Drumless is a whole bunch of shit.
Such a fakeout for what I would have thoight was a Taylor Rerelease.
@@freddieb1903oh hi crown
12:20 Mr. Snare will not stand for an album where they no longer mic'd the snare I love it
UNDERRATED COMMENT it took me a second to get it. Then I had a good belly laugh
The Black Rainbows appreciation is SO good, thanks for that! More people need to listen to that one, it rules.
all i know from her is put your records on. these snippets made my jaw drop
that album was god tier
Yep, not much noise about it ironically.
My favorite opening track of this year was absolutely De Selby Part 1 - Hozier. That transition into Part 2 makes me start floating the second I hear it
Edit: I also wanted to say I really love First Light as a closing track. I highly recommend the album Unreal Unearth to anyone who reads this and hasn’t listened to it!
I love Part 2 so much, it was my most played song this year
Unreal Unearth was my most listened to album this year. The transition from De Selby Part 1 to De Selby Part 2 is something I wish I could hear for the first time. Also, I really love the Irish singing in Part 1.
@@alouise The transition from Unknown/Nth to First Light is really good too
Legit that album deserves more love, so many bangers on it
That album is incredible. De Selby (Part 2) and Francesca are my favourites but the whole album was just a incredible
Chappell Roan is soo good thank you for spreading the gospel! I think she'll really blow up after Olivia Rodrigos GUTS tour
Casual is a banger, one of my closest friends is actually from a neighboring town in missouri to where she’s from
My Kink is Karma is genuinely such a banger, it never gets old for me
She is SO good live. Saw her for $35 (for pit tickets) and she had a few drag queens opening for her. Probably the best $35 I've ever spent
I saw her live she was inscredible
lol Kayleigh was in my 4th grade class
The Yukika, Chappell Roan, DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ, and Yves Tumor shoutouts! I cannot overstate just how much I look forward to these lists every year. It's not just the snappy editing and clever quips, I always walk away with a wealth of new music to check out. Can't wait for the top 10 list to drop!
I listened to the Corinne Bailey Rae album after watching this video and it was DEFINITELY a highlight from this year I almost missed. Thank you very much for your service Mr. The Snare 🙏
this seriously was such a good year for all different kinds of medias its insane

Chappell Roan's The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is my favorite album of the year and I'm so glad it got referenced in this
Best opening track for me was De Selby part 1 + part 2 by Hozier, absolutely my jam. I feel like no one talked about that album except for me and my friends...
Glad to see some Paramore love! This Is Why might be my album of the year. It's definitely in the top 5. What a great year it's been for them too!
It's also one of the best "remix" albums I've ever heard, since Reanimation by Linkin Park
I look forward to this video every year, time to see what amazing music i missed this year, thank so much for doing this Michael t snare :)
HELLMODE by Jeff Rosenstock is my personal AOTY. The best I’ve heard from any pop punk artist in a long time.
I haven’t listened to much pop punk since my Green Day phase in high school but that album absolutely floored me, it has everything I want from an album and is my aoty fs. Highly recommend!
I was also going to comment this. I love that album so much.
Album of the year for me is DEFINITELY The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess but I'm excited to check out all the rest of the stuff on this list I haven't heard yet!!

This video was so much fun, I always look forward to these. I just wanted to listen to every song/album on your list as soon as it came up, and I had heard very few before now. Thank you!
Can't lie Mr. Snare the bangers felt more like bops and the bops felt more like bangers on this one.
God that National album (Laugh Track) was really fantastic wasn’t it? Alphabet City is one of my favorite tracks of the year. Also delighted to see Cold Reactor from Everything Everything on there, but you NEED to go listen to the follow up single, The Mad Stone. It’s a masterpiece.
i appreciate so much that you very accurately identify bops, bangers and jams apart from each other

That transition was so clean 👌
the yukika soul lady inclusion made my jaw drop.. incredible work mr. snare
