    In short:
    1. Put 4 cups white vinegar where water goes
    2. Put in a filter
    3. Press SELECT until goes to CLEAN
    4. Process will take about an hour
    5. When done, throw out filter and vinegar
    6. Do one cycle with clean water to rinse
    You're welcome.

      What’s the point of putting the filter in there?

    • @joe_wein

      petruccifan38 I believe otherwise vinegar would flow through too fast

    • @Coolwater83
      @Coolwater83 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Joe Wein too fast? Lmao the paper doesn’t slow down the speed at which it passes. All it’s supposed to do is stop coffee grounds from getting into the pot. There’s gotta be another reason for that. Or probably no reason at all and they’re just making me waste a coffee filter 😂

      @@Coolwater83 The filter absorbs some of the viengar and slows the passthrough. Joe is correct

    Before I saw this, I ran a mixture of 4 cups vinegar and 6 cups and turned it off. Came back about 2 hours later and it was still clogged. Turned it off again and let it sit for another hour. Finally started to push that gunk through. Paper filter in the basket looked nasty! Now going to try the method on here and see if anymore of that gunk shows up.
    If anyone thinks one carafe of water will get rid of the vinegar smell and taste, you're sadly mistaken. Run an extra 2-3 (maybe 4) through the coffee maker..

    Manual Mr. Coffee cleaning:
    1. Fill the carafe to the four cup line with undiluted white household vinegar
    2. Lift the lid and pour the vinegar into the water reservoir of the coffee maker
    3. Place a filter into the removable filter basked and close the lid
    4. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate
    5. Turn it to on and let 3 cups flow through
    6. Let stand for 30 mins
    7. Then turn it on again to let the remaining vinegar
    8. when complete, discard the vinegar solution and rinse the carafe with clean water
    9. Remove the filter
    10. Pour carafe full of clean fresh water into the coffee maker and turn it on
    11. Repeat until vinegar order is no long noticeable
    I swear I'm tempted to just go buy coffee from the starbucks. This is so inconvenient.

  • @OhhJim
    @OhhJim 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is helpful. The manual doesn't say to use the "clean" cycle, just to brew 3 cups of vinegar. For all I knew, the red "clean" light was only there to blink when it needed cleaning-no indication that "clean" is a cycle. I had to unplug the machine to get the red light to stop blinking, after following the instructions and brewing 2 cycles of vinegar and 1 of water. But I'll do it right next time.
    Also, it's a pain to change the "Delay Brew" time. Maybe you could make a button to adjust the hour forward or back, instead of having to only go forward minute-by-minute.

    How did you get the lid off the carafe so easily? Mine doesn't want to come off and I am afraid I will break it trying to remove it. It's a bit of a pain trying to wash the carafe with the lid attached.

    1. Pour 4 cups of vinegar, turn clean cycle on.
    After the clean cycle is done (45-60mins):
    2. Rinse filter and carafe.
    3. To clear of vinegar scent, fill coffee maker with fresh clean water and turn on coffee maker. Repeat again if needed.

      The filter will catch any loosened gunk in the water feed line before it clogs the "sneak-a-cup" mechanism. Sometimes, people run previously-brewed coffee through the machine to reheat it, or there may be calcium buildup from hard water in there.

  • @zinaustro
    @zinaustro ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Major omissions (on my programmable at least): after 80 cycles the clean light will blink and I can't brew any more coffee unless I unplug it for at least 60 seconds. Also, I can't use the clean cycle until I unplug it for at least 60 seconds. So to clean the unit I must unplug it and then re-program it. So I'm forced to clean it at what might be an inconvenient time for me, and I'm forced to unplug and reprogram it no matter what. Poor design!

Everything is now sanitized and the machine runs much faster and quieter. I had no choice but to clean it that way. I went out of town for a month and realized that I had forgot to empty a full basket of used grinds. I recommend using bleach and doing lots of flushing.

    If you only use distilled water this won’t happen::

      Vinegar should still be used as it will help kill bacteria that grows in wet dark places such as coffee makers.

    Is vinegar a proven cleaner and purifier? Or is it a homeopathic myth? Seems like there would be a science based cleaning liquid. I used to be into keurig type brewers as I'm a bachelor. But I learned that it's best to use a paper filter to lower cholesterol. Also, I want more than just one cup. I was shocked at how the newer regular coffee makers were much faster than before. And a keurig type is a sob to clean. I want to actually take a coffee maker apart and run pipe cleaner through the tubes and soak in bleach and get it truly clean. Can you make a coffee maker that can be undone easily with clear view of the tubing inside so you can start to see the nastiness build up? It would sell like crazy. Thanks

      You are way too over anxious about this. Just use vinegar and you will be fine. No need to disassemble the coffee maker to clean it.

      There's more info about this on google, but basically the cleaning hacks using vinegar or baking soda work because their ph/acidity disrupts any "dirt" enough to remove it.

      I'd really not advise bleach. It's not good to injest, obviously. Also it seems like it could damage the plastic. Vinegar is more than enough to clean a Coffee maker.

      Vinegar is a weak acid. Hard water leaves calcium carbonate crust on and in all surfaces. Vinegar dissolves these built up stains and unclogs the machine. Also, vinegar an all-purpose cleaner for any glassware!
      Didn’t you take simple chemistry in high school?

    How to clean the coffee maker in one easy step ! # 1 . Throw the dam thing in the trash can so hard that any debris or calcium deposits are dislodged .

  • @TheGreatSnafoo
    @TheGreatSnafoo ปีที่แล้ว

    Mr Coffee coffee makers are trash everyone we've ever purchased lasted only a few months past the warranty date. We never even get to the amount of pots brewed to warrant the cleaning which is approximately 300 pots we decided with the last one to clean after 100 pots and it still didn't add any life to the maker. A Bunn, Cuisinart, or just about any manufacturer will last longer than a Mr. Coffee brewer. We no longer use the brand and suggest to others not to as well.

    I don't like the voice of the narrator. You should get rid of her and replace her with a guy who knows how to real command in his voice.
