  • Magnesium Element Feature! We are slowly working our way through the Periodic table of elements, and today we get to look at Magnesium. What is Magnesium Good for? What are some of the Uses of Magnesium? Here are some of the facts about this amazing element including how Magnesium has been used in medicine, and industry, and we discuss the history of magnesium including the discoverer Joseph Black and of Course Sir Humphrey Davy. Not to mention the magnesium in chlorophyll. Also, We get to burn some just for you, make sure you are safe if you try anything I do at home. Here are some of the raw facts about Magnesium, the element Mg.

Ok if a person has high levels of magnesium, is dehydrated and has a seizure? Spontaneous combustion?

One use of magnesium is to create plutonium metal. It's mixed with plutonium fluoride and a crystal of iodine and heated in a MgO thimble in a platinum crucible. The reaction is similar to the termite reaction but it generates MgF2 and Pu metal that forms a button at the bottom of the crucible 😮

Elements are fun. Really enjoyed this. One more car part is mag wheels. In the old days, they used to burn up occasionally. Early photographic flash powder was magnesium and an oxygen source like perchlorate. You tried to avoid having it go off in your pocket.

Prior to this video I thought that I had an understanding of magnesium, my wife actually had to have magnesium given to her in the hospital one time so at least biologically I understood the necessity, however I had no idea that we used it so much in so many different things. Totally fire video, get the pun there haha, okay I'll see myself out...

I work at a steering wheel manufacturing company, the first(skeleton type) part is magnesium. Basically i check them if they are okay, what should i look out for?
