    I saw that video with Arn Moe just days ago - I was also struck by the obviousness in it. I've been shooting (bare finger) thumb-release with my compounds that I started archery with last summer, and been very focused on the "muscles only"-horseback slant, but have had a hard time anchoring in the air over my shoulder. When I heard Arn it just made full sense: I've got to go back, and all-in, on bone-aligned style!
    And, of course, even so much more value to recurve / horse-bow shooters, since they would have the tendency you talk about of ordering (I adapt to the length of the draw-stop, so a bit of "cheating" with compounds).
    So glad you highlighted his lesson with this video! Great job!

    I have switched to 3 under in the last year or so and have improved my accuracy greatly . I was coming to a specific anchor point for quite sometime then the "feel " hit me . The expansion became the anchor and made everything seem more manageable . Now with my J type draw and back tension anchor , my consistency has improved both in elevation and windage . The "feel " I call it , married with my split vision / traditional / intuitive aiming method has improved my hunting skill . Good instructional video.

    • @derrickray5464
      @derrickray5464 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! You draw, hold, and "feel" the shot. Then, not hold the string anymore (best description I've ever heard of release, or "loose the arrow ").
      I suffer from target panic. I just want to draw and let it go. I keep saying " hold it, feel it." Once I feel the shot, it's always perfect!

    • @derrickray5464

      Also, don't shoot too much. Shoot 6 to 10 shots and then go do something else for awhile. If you just keep hammering away, shots get sloppy.

      @@Zephyr1202 muscle fatigue. it is like lifting weights, there is a point called "muscle failure" after some sets of weights, one is not able to keep pushing the same weight. Same happens here. And the heavier the bow the shorter the time one can be consistant.

    Thanks for the info as it is very interesting to adapt to the physiological position as opposed to an anchor point. I personally shoot shorter bows and rely on muscle memory as the anchor point which is often in the air and not on the body.

    Simple stuff and I like it! I think what people don't really think about is our bodies are made differently and we have different limits of flexibility. While I do believe that archery has a form that should be strived for, each of us has to find that anchor position that gives us the maximum draw and back tension while avoiding that strained feeling. Sometimes in my efforts for that 'proper' position just prior to release, I feel like I'm straining for it which seems to me just as bad as trying to shoot a bow with a draw weight that is too heavy for me.

    Thanks for the great videos. I'm a barebow shooter who has gotten a bit frustrated with my progress. The owner of my local range is also a level 4 coach who teaches a lot of compound and Olympic style recurve shooters. Last year he changed my anchor from my upper cheek to under my jaw. I find it really hard to try and aim an arrow with the draw anchored under my chin, but then I also shoot split finger--I don't want to string walk, I'd rather learn to gap shoot. I'm going to try this method and see if it helps.

    • @TradArchery101
      @TradArchery101  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Under the chin is not a reasonable way to anchor when not using sights. It moves the arrow to far away from the eye and makes any aiming (either conscious or unconscious) that much more difficult.

    • @darlenelopez5632
      @darlenelopez5632 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TradArchery101 Thank you. One of the other barebow shooters at my range recently said he went back to his face anchor and looking straight down the arrow. He shoots lots of Xs. I don't understand this drive for coaches to push barebow shooters to a under jaw draw. Honestly, it makes me question if he's hoping I'll convert to Olympic and spend more money to buy all that expensive extra stuff from his shop. Its to the point I almost don't want to go shoot there any more. Thanks again for your response and for the videos.

      @@TradArchery101 what I feel is that the with the draw to the chin I can actually look over the arrow and align it under my eye but when I draw to my cheek, my eye is not directly over the arrow unless I tilt my head, also my face gets in the way of my fingers and pluck the string. So it is badically the same verticaly but horizontally when my face in on the side of the arrow. Just as I have to aim lower the farther down the arrow is from my eye, the farther right I have to aim if my eye is on the side of the arrow and not directly above. Thats what I feel personally, I rather just focus on one, horizontal plane, instead of two

    Today I realized this, for me though, when I bring my hand to the face mt shoulder complains and the alignment doesn't feel as good as when it is under my jaw line. Yes, it does increase the gap but the feeling is much better and concistant than when I focus on placing my hand somewhere and then try and feel the back alignment.

    I started archery about a week ago. I started drawing til I felt full back tension and skeletal alignment. It felt very natural to engage the back muscles to me since I am a former gym rat. I started to get pretty good groupings and hit gold pretty often. Then I learned about anchor points and decided to try it. It feels like I am collapsing a little bit even if I anchor at the chin or the corner of the mouth and that I need to pull back further than any of the most popular anchor points. Then I tried cheekbone and behind the jaw but it feels a bout strange and I feel that I get a weird string alignment. No matter what I tried nothing felt completely right anymore :S. And my aim got so much worse just by trying the normal anchor points. I am going to listen to my body and what feels right to me and not what people say is right. It seems to work best for me.

  • @robertrawlinson7412

    Have been trying this out for about the last month here are my thoughts for what they are worth. Draw lenght has increased by about 1 inch, anchor point is behind my jaw just under my right ear, do not have to think about getting my elbow back to feel back tension, now it just happens, colapsing seems to be a thing of the past. groups have tightened up (shooting 2 inch groups at 30 metres) it seems to work!

    You slipped up making this video Greg as you should of got a arrow manufacturer or archery shop to sponsor you.
    All those that find it lengthens there draw by an inch or so and have arrows cut to exact size will need to buy a load of new ones.
    That sponsor money could of purchased the wood and materials for the next bow you make.

    • @TradArchery101
      @TradArchery101  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question, not sure if I can explain it the best. I can demonstrate it though. The alignment they seek is where the weight of the bow is held not by muscle, but your body structure. The bow hands forces are pushing into the shoulder socket and the rear elbow is in a line with the shoulder socket.

    • @petarpetalarev8297
      @petarpetalarev8297 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The easiest explanation is something like this: it's the position, which allows you holding the bow drawn with minimum effort. Great video once again, Greg!
