  • If you shortened your zipper from the top, it's very easy to zip the pull right off. Join me for this week's episode of Fit Tip Tuesday to see how to put a pull back on a zipper that's already sewn into a front fly. Did you know some zippers have a lock on the pull to prevent it from unzipping when you're wearing wearing your jeans or pants? Zippers with locks can be shortened from the top. First, I'll show you how to tell if you zipper has a locking pull. Then I'll show you how to put the pull back on if you unzipped it right off after constructing a front fly.

    Whew, crisis averted, thank you so much! It appears I am not the only sewist who chopped off the top of the zipper and then "zzzzzippped" the pull RIGHT OFF! Thank you for this fix. Saved me a few hours!

    If anyone is watching this because they pulled the zipper off the top (not bottom) as I did and are struggling to get it back on this may help: I eventually worked out the correct strategy. If all the teeth were connected the fly wouldn’t go back on. If I unzipped some/most of the teeth, the fly would not go back on. Connect all the teeth except one tooth at the very end which you leave open. It will then go on and unzip and you are done after you secure the ends so it doesn’t come off again

    I'm seeing a lot of comments similar to what I'm about to say, but I accidentally pulled the zipper off the top of a dress I'm making, and was about to cry.
    Dress is now completely repaired and ready to wear

    Jen thanks so much for showing how to do this! Saved me on a pair of Ash jeans I am trying to salvage after they turned out too small. Put them in time out for a few months and had forgotten I had pulled the zipper pull off the top. Managed to get it back on following your tip here 🙌🙌🙌

    Your tips and instructions are the best! I have only recently started following your tutorials on TH-cam. You are the only person I know that addresses my body-type issues when it comes to fitting. Do you have a book on fitting? I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

    What I would LOVE to know is how to put an invisible zip tab back on.

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh…. Good question! I’ve never lost a tab on an invisible zipper 🤞🏼…Let me investigate that!

    I’ve been sewing since dinosaurs roamed the earth. I never knew that the reason why my zipper pull comes undone on my pants is because it doesn’t have any stops at the top. I do know that there are some of my pants that have zippers with locking mechanisms, but I never knew that the ones that don’t are different. Thank you for explaining. I will watch out for this now

    what do you do if the zipper pull comes off your boots?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can pull off the top stops and one or two teeth at the top. Then put the zipper teeth together from the bottom up. Once the zipper teeth are zipped up, you can slide the pull back on. Then put the top stops back on. (Use needle nose plies to get them off and on.
