Glock 23 was my first gun ever and it is still working perfectly. 40 Cal is a wonderful round once you get past the haters. One thing I really liked is I could still find it for sale during the shortages.
@@djudson367 absolute fantasy. I have 3 .40 cal Glocks with hundreds of rounds through each. Not a single issue. The only thing I would caution you about the G23 is that after I got a Glock27 and a Glock 35, the 23 became a paper weight. Its too large to carry and my G35 is much more accurate. By itself, the G23 still does everything pretty good but is a master of none.
The only thing holding me back from the G23 is the heavier slide and no more grooves on the grip. Ik the heavier slide is supposed to help with the recoil but I’ve heard so many people not like the Gen 5 G23 since the Gen 3 n 4 are true to Glock so I’m debating between Gen 3-5 G23
@@whoseverwinter the heavier slide is what makes it awesome. The old school boomers aren’t happy about it though. They don’t make gen 4 anymore. Gen 3 is still manufactured but is no comparison to the 5.

The third pin added to the gen 3 and gen 4 Glocks were really added as a quick "Band Aid" fix to handle the high pressured 40S&W round so they could just use their 9mm platform and recalibrate it for 40S&W... but they still had issues with cracks and breaks of the slide and parts. They made the slide thicker/heavier to make it stronger to prevent the cracks and breaks from happening. It also helps with controlling the recoil a little bit better. In my opinion, the Glock 23 gen 5 is better designed for handling 40. The "trade off" is that you now have to get a holster made to fit it... but the "trade off" is worth it , in my opinion. The Gen 4 and Gen 3 variants of the Glock 23 are great options as well... but i feel like they actually took time and effort to design the Gen 5 Glock 23 around the 40S&W round rather than just taking their 9mm format and sticking a 40 barrel in it. Just my two cents worth. Im a 40 guy "thru and thru" and daily carry the Glock 23 gen 5.
Yep, I totally agree. Also, .40 caliber ammo can be had at prices below what you would pay for 9mm. One just has to be vigilant to jump on a good buy when they come up. I have lets just say "several" Glocks. I celebrate diversity. Shoot pretty much all calibers and the only time I discriminate is when the price of a certain caliber is much higher in cost then I care to pay. For every caliber thats popular and expensive, I just stay away and shoot the range ammo that costs less. Personal protection ammo is the exception. Performance over price all day long.
I carried a G23 for most of my LE career. 40 S&W is a great caliber for self defense. I recently purchased a Gen 5 G27. I like the pistol quite well except for the fact that it will not fit most of my kydex G26 holsters. The Gen 5 G27 is also heavier than the Gen 4 model. In fact, according to Glock, an unloaded Gen 5 G27 weighs about the same as a Gen 4 G23.
I have had the G27 gen 2 since 1996 and have never needed to upgrade to a newer model. In fact, I have a 9mm conversion barrel for it also. The 27 is a great firearm.
Nice review. The 40 is great choice. I'm a 9 guy myself the g17 gen5 mos is me. But you can't go wrong with the 23. Great video and review always a surprise.
Getting rid of the finger grooves on all Gen 5s was big for me, because on a 19/23 of Gen 3 and 4, the bottom point of the lowest finger groove rests right under my pinky, i.e., my hand is too big for my pinky to rest in the actual groove, making the Gen 5 much more comfortable for me. Also, I like that the Gen 5 22 and 23 have a thicker (and therefore heavier) slide, which tames the snappiness of .40 S&W just a bit.
I like the beveled slide front on the Gen5's. I like the flaired magazine wells, too. While I never gave it much thought, I have grown to like the frame without finger grooves. That said, I absolutely despise those dumb-looking forward cocking serrations! I wish Glock would start producing slides on the order of a 50/50 forward serrations vs no forward serrations. I don't understand why anyone would want them but for whatever reason, they do. Please consider those of us who learned to operate a gun without them, too!
I’m a Glock guy-I think there’s one (a G23) in my future. One of the guys in the deer camp I belong to has one-a 3rd Generation G23. He has it on his hip when he’s at the camp, hunting or on an work party.
I'm lame, still carry a Glock 23 gen 3, love it, haven't considered upgrading any time soon, my spare magazine goes to my Glock 22, figure 2 more rounds couldn't hurt
I often carry after market Magpul P series 15 or 17rd mags for my Glock 26 gen 5. The extra rounds come in handy & are only a tad larger than Glock 26 mags.
I suckered myself into buying a Gen 5 26 and sold my Gen 4 26 as I’m left handed and the trigger was supposedly better and the ambi slide release was an attraction. The slide release on the right side is very hard to use. The trigger was better but not noticeably so. Even being left handed I prefer the mag release on the left side anyway. The Gen 5 trigger assembly is more difficult to remove and is not recommended. I also found that some range ammo I used in the Gen 4 won’t run in the Gen 5. Reflecting on your commentary I came to the conclusion that the finger grooves do help in stabilizing the gun. So all in all it wasn’t worth the hassle of selling the one and buying the other. Thank you for your commentary and observations.
I tossed a coin and the G23 lost the toss only because I needed the extra grip length of the G22. With that said, I consider the .40 S&W an excellent defensive cartridge. The .40 S&W fills a gap between the 9mm and .45 ACP, both of which I also carry.
Good video, but it sucks that it needs to exist. It's not like .40 S&W fell off a cliff and stopped performing. It still provides the same performance it has successfully provided for its entire lifespan in service. 25+ years of proven service should speak for itself.
Oh yeah 40 for me, is the best round to carry if your not ill or injured; It out perform 9 and 45. If you depend on 9, you need the modified up dated ammo. 45 can not penetrate as good if you need it to unless, you buy plus p and sometimes it still doesn’t. Regular 40 target ammo can do both what a 9 and what a 45 can not do. If you want to talk about most consistent one shot stops, according to police field data based on real life encounters, 357 magnum came first and 40 came second… so 40 all the way. Oh an yes, I carry conceal my Glock 23 and sometimes my G 45. However, for SHTF my much preferred is Glock 20…. The reason why, if I can’t find 10mm, I can still shoot 40….👑😁 Complaining about Glock sights is just whining, because you have options to change them; so what’s the point. If they had unchangeable sights, that you need a gunsmith to change like blow torching or sawing them off then that’s a genuine complaint but, Glock intended for his firearms to be modular, that’s why it is; duhhhh!!!🤪🤪🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣 All that extra sights stuff is movie, imagining. If you hand to defend yourself, your going to want to take cover, be as thin as paper and if you have to return fire, your going to point and shoot at that target. Your not going to want to be lining up a red dot and your not going to want to take to much time looking down the sights. Everything would happen at a blink of an eye. All that other stuff is really entertainment. You will almost sh_t yourself if someone is shooting at you…. If your offensive your still going to point, very briefly look at your line of sight and squeeze but, it’s still going to be very quick because, your going to be concerned about having the advantage without a counter attack, either by the perp or if he has buddies your not aware that can be present.
I love my Gen 5 G23. It’s going to be my new off duty gun. I also have a gen4 G32. But I bought a KKM barrel for it in 40 cal becasue .357Sig ammo is so hard to find.
I own 2 M&Ps a series 1.0 .40 & a newer 2.0 model .40 caliber. I had 2 extra match grade KKM barrels added; 9x19mm & the fast .357sig. The .357 in my view, is NOT worth the $, effort. It is zippy, high KE level 🥊 but really not any better than newer JHPs 9x19 +P.
@@DavidLLambertmobile I ❤️ the .357 Sig round. It does outperform even a +P 9mm in penetration with superb expansion, even through 4 layers of denim. Can’t say that about the 9mm. I don’t mind owning the Glock 32 and 31, because I got .40 cal barrels for them as well. If I never find .357Sig ammo again, I don’t care because the guns are now .40’s if need be. Winning.
@@oahts5906 The 40 Glock mags will accept ,357Sig ammo and with a simple barrel swap. However if you bought the .357Sig, the newest Glock magazines will not accept .40 ammunition. Reason being, the Glock .357Sig magazines have a shoulder built into the magazine, to prevent 40’s from being used. Glock wants you to spend more money and buy more mags evidently. But because the .40 is not necked down, the ,357Sig round fits perfectly in a .40 magazine.

The SCS Holosun optic is design to fit glock gen 4 19, 17, etc type widths. It will fit a gen 5 and sits low enough to use factory sites as a co witness. No adapter plates required.
If you notice as well...The Gen 4 has a double locking block pin, the Gen 5 only has a single. I think Glock beefed up the whole Gen 5 frame and slide. I've carried a G23 Gen 2 since 1997, both while being on duty and off duty. The gun is completely OEM (with the exception of Talon Grips), and it has never failed fire, or cycle. My Gen 2 has two locking block pins, because Glock designed all of their Gen 2 frames, .40 S&W, 10mm and .45 ACP with them. All 9mm and .380 calibers have one pin. I'll stay with the earlier Glock generations for an EDC piece, but that's just me...Thanks for the video.
Yes. Glock beefed up the slide due to the fact of no longer using the multi-pin system. They initially went back to their “original” design of the single pin system. But in order to successfully operate the power of the .40 S&W efficiently, The slide was thickened. And I’ve heard countless stories of people claiming the Gen 5 23s shoot a hell of a lot smoother than the previous Gen Glocks. I have a close who swears his entire life behind .40 S&W over 9mm. He daily carries an HK VP.40 as well as switching from time to time over to a USP .40 full sized. We’ve shot both & although the USP was specifically designed for the .40 S&W cartridge back in that day, It’s not as fun to shoot as the VP series in .40. The VP is beefier, heavier & just an overall smoother operator compared to the USP. Maybe that’s just my personal opinion, of course; but my friend also admits he prefers to shoot his VP over the USP due to the recoil management between both firearms. And I guess it’s safe to say the performance behind the VP.40 would be similar to the new Gen 5 G23. I’ve yet to shoot a 23; But I’m hellbent on picking one up very soon to see for myself.
In fact I have a Glock 22 witch is the gen 5 40 and they in fact DO! Have a 9mm conversion barrel however it’s a bit pricey look up “barsto 9mm conversion barrel for gen 5 40s” it will pop up cost is 250$!!! I know pricey right!!?? But yes they are available
In California it doesn't make sense to use a 9mm unless you just can't control more. With a 10 round mag limit I only ever consider. 40 or .45 unless I go pocket sized. But if I do that I'll just use a S&W j frame
Glock added more mass to the M22 & 23 slide! This was done to handle the Increase In pressure associated with the 40S&W cartridge! The H&K USP and the Sig P229 were designed specifically to handle the Increased pressure of the 40S&W cartridge. Glock wanted to simply update and Improve the durability of their pistols that are chambered for a more powerful round.
The GLOCK G-23 in .40 S&W is very possibly the best carry gun made. It's light, small, packs 13+1 .40 S&W stopping power and is extremely reliable and accurate. Those of us who still own and use .40 S&W can think for ourselves and out of the box. The 9mm tactitard mallninjas are extremely annoying and clueless. I own and use 9mms too but I never lie to myself or others thinking they are equals or even more powerful. That's simply not the case and while a 9mm is cheap to shoot, easy to get ammo for, very popular it's not as good or as powerful as a .40 S&W by any stretch. The same modern bullet technology improvement done on 9mm have also been done on .40 S&W and .45 ACP. These people lie so much they start believing it themselves. Also it's generally newcomers who hate any caliber or firearms other than those chambered in 9mm. Those of us doing this 42 years like myself have a entire assortment of calibers and types of handguns both semi-auto pistols and revolvers. Me personally I own about 25 different calibers between long guns and handguns and use them all. I would never put all my eggs in one basket with 9mm and 5.56. Half these dorks don't even own a .22LR or a 12 gauge shotgun either. Freakin' nOObs!
A + for Glock 22, 35, 23 series owners is you can tote a .40s&w or if you buy after market barrels, shoot 9x19mm or .357sig with the same Glock gun. Different 9mm magazines for the 9mm barrel. I shot a few boxes of .357sig SIG FMJ in my M&P 2.0. To be honest the stout .357 pistol load is 💥; large muzzle flash, recoil, blast 🔊. The fast, potent .357sig hits hard but IMO, the 9mm +P or a 155gr to 165gr .40 is a better choice. I often drop my LWB 🐺 barrel 9mm into my Glock 22 to carry on armed security details.
I agree with everything you said except 9mm t p and 40cal 165g don't compare with 357sig. Grab a Shooters Bible and check the ballistics 357sig has about 11 rounds over 500fpe and 9mm And 40cal together don't have that much check it out

You can stay with 9mm if you prefer. I have a 45 gen 5 9mm and put down a variety of 4 legged things due to the nature of my work. One shot of quality 9mm is all it takes.
Was 1st pistol I owned still have it Glock 27 my 43x was discontinued the two tone was and my Glock 36 which I carry often .before that I had a 357 mag traded in on. Pistol then went back to revolvers til I got a smith and Wesson 0:02 357 now into collecting 0:02 pistols .i own just about every caliber pistol they make .
Waoo, the Glock 23 gen. 5 is great pistol and the recoil is very, very controllable. I like Glock 19 (9mm) but the Glock 23 gen. 5 is awesome pistol, repeat, the recoil very, very controllable. The new pistol Glock 23 is a HOME RUN.
I "rushed" and bought a G23 Gen 5 about a year ago. A few months back saw the same in MOS. I am still debating on selling the old one and getting the other, milling the slide, or buying a M.O.S. slide. I am still undecided on that, but I love my G23 Gen 5. My first "real" gun was a G27 Gen 3. This is a way easier shooting weapon. I just got a SIG P320 RXP X-Compact and upgraded to the WC X-Carry and Carry II grip modules. Of course a much easier shooter in a 9mm, but I am loving the Red Dot. So I'll soon have to figure out if I want to stick with only my TruGlo Tritium PRO Night Sights, upgrade to a new M.O.S. G23, or get a slide (costs about what I paid for the original.) Plus the need for suppression heights are a must as they are great on my SIG.
And BTW I love Don's Weaponry as it was the first range experience that I ever had and a shot out to Cleve who was a great range master. I'll definitely have to stop by when I am home again.
The reason slide is wider in my opinion is because some 40 cal ammo has higher pressures . Underwood for one has some of their ammo pressures getting close to some 10 mm's
While I kept my Glock 19 duty gun, when I retired I bought a Glock 23. I love both guns and alternate carrying. Also own a Glock 27. People complain between .40 and 9...why not carry both?
The gen5 guns have also gone back to being a one pin instead of a two pin on the locking block/slide lock. Also, the barrels are not interchangeable with previous generations.
Gen 5 barrels at least in 9mm will work in Gen 1 - 4 guns, just not the other way around. The reason why the Gen 5 .40 S&W barrels may or may not work is because they are actually larger in diameter so is the slide.
If you undercut the trigger guard on your Gen 4 you'll find it raises your hold on the grip enough for the other two fingers fall right into the groves!
Yes they needed a heavier slide to slow the slide under recoil because they went back to a single pin in the locking block that is why it's bigger and heavier

Full co witness is more crowding, especially in a gun fight, and yes I've been in several gun fights, most lasting a 5, to 10 mins and one lasting for 3 days, I believe 1/3 co witness is superior, less crowding and you can deploy both separate or together.
Just a side note, I’ve changed all my followers in all my Glock magazines to the orange followers. On my 19’s, 23’s and 32’s I’ve also changed the mags to the new gen 5 base pads. They give my pinky finger just a tiny bit more to hang onto. Great video sir, as usual.
.40 caliber round moving at almost magnum velocity. What's the problem? Oh, it's "snappy! Well, It's a firearm, would you expect anything less? This is a great round and the 23 is a workhorse. Carried one on duty for a lot of years, bought it from the department when I retired, still carry it, absolute zero problems. Learn to effectively shoot and the imaginary problems with the .40 will go away and you will have a caliber for self defense that will get the job done.
Since the slide is thicker and heavier to handle the pressures of the 40, how is the recoil? My gen 3 Glock 23 is quite snappy but I train with it so I am used to it.
Do you think the Gen 5 is thicker and heavier than the Gen 4 is because it's designed to handle a more poerful .40 Caliber round ? Or that it's designed to last longer firing more rounds of the higher power 40 caliber rounds than the Gen 4 could handle ?
I had a 23 gen 4 for some time. Not sure why but I shot that gun the best, found easy to carry, and like the higher mag cap given its a bigger cartridge. I shot that gun better than my old 9mm SIg and a few Springfield XDs. All great guns but gonna stick to the Glock
Funny , Glock Perfection, once you do the personal modifications to your platform...never replace the safety plunger spring...the teeny tiny one...they like to go full auto sear...no bueno...

Guess it depends on brand. For best energy and terminal ballistics; 135 and 150/155 grain is the sweet spot. Do what it takes to get over the 500ft. lbs. mark. Corbon makes a great 135grn. @ 1325fps for about 535ft.lbs or Underwood 135grn. @ 1450fps for about 588ft.lbs. or 155grn. for 580ft.lbs.
@@cluckbent6466 Yep, one of the FBI’s firearm instructors involved with the creation of the .40 S&W specified a preference for the 180 grain bullet traveling at 950 fps because he wanted it to have similar characteristics to a .45 ACP round. Not only does a heavier bullet traveling at subsonic speeds have less snap than a lighter and faster round but it’s the heavy chunk of lead and it’s greater momentum that actually gave the 45 ACP its reputation as being a “hard hitting” round. Calculated energy doesn’t always translate into “useable” energy which the Thompson and LaGarde experiments back in 1904 quickly discovered. No modern testing method is capable of showing what a test on living creatures can show. Gel blocks and theories pushed as fact can’t replace that which is why I haven’t bought in to all the BS marketing involved with the 9mm. 9mm is capable but it ain’t equal to the bigger calibers especially with the heavier bullets.
Me Personally I'm thinking about getting rid of mine.... I use my 40 for work carry all because I just don't care about it...My Glock 23 is definitely on the trade in list along with Two CZ's. Soon as Glock releases the 357/10mm in the Gen 5 all Three of them are gone asap!
The 5th gen mags have cutouts in them sonic you swapped the mag release to lefty, you're good to go. 4th gen down, you can't. The slide is a bit wider for the weight to help mitigate the felt recoil. And the 5th gen also has a marksman barrel. Btw, love them .40s.

Nice vid. But...I have a serious question. First, let me say, I'm not trolling, or aiming malice towards you, or anyone else in particular. I am simply puzzled. My question: WHY do firearms mfg's apparently make pistols/revolvers in a size that only fits me, as I am apparently the only living man in America with small hands?? Wouldn't it make more sense to mfg them in a size that fits 99.999% of buyers to start with?? Why target me as pattern?? Would the cost of the extra material needed to expand the size be prohibitive?? I chose to view your vid(because you sound factual) because I am currently entertaining the idea of buying a G...G...Ggg...Glock. I have had ample opportunity since circa 1986. I didn't buy then, because it was thick/ chunky/honestly ugly to me. AND TOO BIG FOR MY HANDS to feel comfortable. I've been eyeing the 23/gen 5, BECAUSE it look like maybe a good fit. AND, it is in my EDC cal of.40. Plus 9mm/.357 Sig/.22LR, MOS, slim grips, beveled slide, etc.Most of all, because I owe all the firearms mfgs for their relentless effort to provide ME w/a grip for my small hands. TY.

My first glock was the gen4 23 .. loved it but I really feel this is a helluva step up
The G23 gen 5 is my EDC and my favorite purchase ever. The thicker slide makes all the difference vs previous gens.

I had a 23 Gen 4 and traded it in on a Gen 5 and the 3 oz heavier slide makes the 40 cal pistol a little softer shooting.

You can buy the tungsten guide rods and get the same effect with your previous gens.
Also makes it bulky and heavy
I won't own a 9mm, mostly out of spite at this point since many manufacturers can't be bothered to make .40's anymore.

I have had the G27 gen 2 since 1996 and have never needed to upgrade to a newer model. In fact, I have a 9mm conversion barrel for it also. The 27 is a great firearm.

Nice review. The 40 is great choice. I'm a 9 guy myself the g17 gen5 mos is me. But you can't go wrong with the 23. Great video and review always a surprise.
Getting rid of the finger grooves on all Gen 5s was big for me, because on a 19/23 of Gen 3 and 4, the bottom point of the lowest finger groove rests right under my pinky, i.e., my hand is too big for my pinky to rest in the actual groove, making the Gen 5 much more comfortable for me. Also, I like that the Gen 5 22 and 23 have a thicker (and therefore heavier) slide, which tames the snappiness of .40 S&W just a bit.

I like the beveled slide front on the Gen5's. I like the flaired magazine wells, too. While I never gave it much thought, I have grown to like the frame without finger grooves. That said, I absolutely despise those dumb-looking forward cocking serrations! I wish Glock would start producing slides on the order of a 50/50 forward serrations vs no forward serrations. I don't understand why anyone would want them but for whatever reason, they do. Please consider those of us who learned to operate a gun without them, too!
My G23 is great. I find the 180gr ammo to recoil about as much as 9mm+P.

I’m a Glock guy-I think there’s one (a G23) in my future. One of the guys in the deer camp I belong to has one-a 3rd Generation G23. He has it on his hip when he’s at the camp, hunting or on an work party.
I'm lame, still carry a Glock 23 gen 3, love it, haven't considered upgrading any time soon, my spare magazine goes to my Glock 22, figure 2 more rounds couldn't hurt
I often carry after market Magpul P series 15 or 17rd mags for my Glock 26 gen 5. The extra rounds come in handy & are only a tad larger than Glock 26 mags.
I suckered myself into buying a
Gen 5 26 and sold my Gen 4 26 as I’m left handed and the trigger was supposedly better and the ambi slide release was an attraction. The slide release on the right side is very hard to use. The trigger was better but not noticeably so. Even being left handed I prefer the mag release on the left side anyway. The Gen 5 trigger assembly is more difficult to remove and is not recommended. I also found that some range ammo I used in the Gen 4 won’t run in the Gen 5. Reflecting on your commentary I came to the conclusion that the finger grooves do help in stabilizing the gun. So all in all it wasn’t worth the hassle of selling the one and buying the other.

EXTENDED Slide Release Yet ???
I tossed a coin and the G23 lost the toss only because I needed the extra grip length of the G22. With that said, I consider the .40 S&W an excellent defensive cartridge. The .40 S&W fills a gap between the 9mm and .45 ACP, both of which I also carry.
Love my Gen 5 23. The recoil is barely noticeable against my Gen 5 19.
Good video, but it sucks that it needs to exist. It's not like .40 S&W fell off a cliff and stopped performing. It still provides the same performance it has successfully provided for its entire lifespan in service. 25+ years of proven service should speak for itself.
Oh yeah 40 for me, is the best round to carry if your not ill or injured; It out perform 9 and 45. If you depend on 9, you need the modified up dated ammo. 45 can not penetrate as good if you need it to unless, you buy plus p and sometimes it still doesn’t. Regular 40 target ammo can do both what a 9 and what a 45 can not do. If you want to talk about most consistent one shot stops, according to police field data based on real life encounters, 357 magnum came first and 40 came second… so 40 all the way. Oh an yes, I carry conceal my Glock 23 and sometimes my G 45. However, for SHTF my much preferred is Glock 20…. The reason why, if I can’t find 10mm, I can still shoot 40….👑😁
Complaining about Glock sights is just whining, because you have options to change them; so what’s the point. If they had unchangeable sights, that you need a gunsmith to change like blow torching or sawing them off then that’s a genuine complaint but, Glock intended for his firearms to be modular, that’s why it is; duhhhh!!!🤪🤪🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣
All that extra sights stuff is movie, imagining. If you hand to defend yourself, your going to want to take cover, be as thin as paper and if you have to return fire, your going to point and shoot at that target. Your not going to want to be lining up a red dot and your not going to want to take to much time looking down the sights. Everything would happen at a blink of an eye. All that other stuff is really entertainment. You will almost sh_t yourself if someone is shooting at you…. If your offensive your still going to point, very briefly look at your line of sight and squeeze but, it’s still going to be very quick because, your going to be concerned about having the advantage without a counter attack, either by the perp or if he has buddies your not aware that can be present.
I love my Gen 5 G23. It’s going to be my new off duty gun. I also have a gen4 G32. But I bought a KKM barrel for it in 40 cal becasue .357Sig ammo is so hard to find.
I own 2 M&Ps a series 1.0 .40 & a newer 2.0 model .40 caliber. I had 2 extra match grade KKM barrels added; 9x19mm & the fast .357sig. The .357 in my view, is NOT worth the $, effort. It is zippy, high KE level 🥊 but really not any better than newer JHPs 9x19 +P.
@@DavidLLambertmobile I ❤️ the .357 Sig round. It does outperform even a +P 9mm in penetration with superb expansion, even through 4 layers of denim. Can’t say that about the 9mm. I don’t mind owning the Glock 32 and 31, because I got .40 cal barrels for them as well. If I never find .357Sig ammo again, I don’t care because the guns are now .40’s if need be. Winning.

@@oahts5906 The 40 Glock mags will accept ,357Sig ammo and with a simple barrel swap. However if you bought the .357Sig, the newest Glock magazines will not accept .40 ammunition. Reason being, the Glock .357Sig magazines have a shoulder built into the magazine, to prevent 40’s from being used. Glock wants you to spend more money and buy more mags evidently. But because the .40 is not necked down, the ,357Sig round fits perfectly in a .40 magazine.

The SCS Holosun optic is design to fit glock gen 4 19, 17, etc type widths. It will fit a gen 5 and sits low enough to use factory sites as a co witness. No adapter plates required.
I use a PJ Holsters IWB with closed loop, works great. PJ offers several different attachments.

If you notice as well...The Gen 4 has a double locking block pin, the Gen 5 only has a single. I think Glock beefed up the whole Gen 5 frame and slide. I've carried a G23 Gen 2 since 1997, both while being on duty and off duty. The gun is completely OEM (with the exception of Talon Grips), and it has never failed fire, or cycle. My Gen 2 has two locking block pins, because Glock designed all of their Gen 2 frames, .40 S&W, 10mm and .45 ACP with them. All 9mm and .380 calibers have one pin. I'll stay with the earlier Glock generations for an EDC piece, but that's just me...Thanks for the video.
Yes. Glock beefed up the slide due to the fact of no longer using the multi-pin system. They initially went back to their “original” design of the single pin system. But in order to successfully operate the power of the .40 S&W efficiently, The slide was thickened. And I’ve heard countless stories of people claiming the Gen 5 23s shoot a hell of a lot smoother than the previous Gen Glocks. I have a close who swears his entire life behind .40 S&W over 9mm. He daily carries an HK VP.40 as well as switching from time to time over to a USP .40 full sized. We’ve shot both & although the USP was specifically designed for the .40 S&W cartridge back in that day, It’s not as fun to shoot as the VP series in .40. The VP is beefier, heavier & just an overall smoother operator compared to the USP. Maybe that’s just my personal opinion, of course; but my friend also admits he prefers to shoot his VP over the USP due to the recoil management between both firearms. And I guess it’s safe to say the performance behind the VP.40 would be similar to the new Gen 5 G23. I’ve yet to shoot a 23; But I’m hellbent on picking one up very soon to see for myself.
Love my 23 gen 5 mos. Have a vortex venom rds installed. It runs great. Only issue is that NOBODY makes a 9mm conversion barrel for the gen 5!

Bc the glock 19 slide is to small like the barrel length to fit a fat 40 barrel or any others besides idk maybe 22

In California it doesn't make sense to use a 9mm unless you just can't control more. With a 10 round mag limit I only ever consider. 40 or .45 unless I go pocket sized. But if I do that I'll just use a S&W j frame
Glock added more mass to the M22 & 23 slide! This was done to handle the Increase In pressure associated with the 40S&W cartridge! The H&K USP and the Sig P229 were designed specifically to handle the Increased pressure of the 40S&W cartridge. Glock wanted to simply update and Improve the durability of their pistols that are chambered for a more powerful round.
Increased pressure from what? 9mm runs at no more than 35,000psi. The .40, however, runs at no more than 35,000psi.
I bought one just to diversify from 9mm, it's become my go to pistol.
The GLOCK G-23 in .40 S&W is very possibly the best carry gun made. It's light, small, packs 13+1 .40 S&W stopping power and is extremely reliable and accurate. Those of us who still own and use .40 S&W can think for ourselves and out of the box. The 9mm tactitard mallninjas are extremely annoying and clueless. I own and use 9mms too but I never lie to myself or others thinking they are equals or even more powerful. That's simply not the case and while a 9mm is cheap to shoot, easy to get ammo for, very popular it's not as good or as powerful as a .40 S&W by any stretch. The same modern bullet technology improvement done on 9mm have also been done on .40 S&W and .45 ACP. These people lie so much they start believing it themselves. Also it's generally newcomers who hate any caliber or firearms other than those chambered in 9mm. Those of us doing this 42 years like myself have a entire assortment of calibers and types of handguns both semi-auto pistols and revolvers. Me personally I own about 25 different calibers between long guns and handguns and use them all. I would never put all my eggs in one basket with 9mm and 5.56. Half these dorks don't even own a .22LR or a 12 gauge shotgun either. Freakin' nOObs!
A + for Glock 22, 35, 23 series owners is you can tote a .40s&w or if you buy after market barrels, shoot 9x19mm or .357sig with the same Glock gun. Different 9mm magazines for the 9mm barrel. I shot a few boxes of .357sig SIG FMJ in my M&P 2.0. To be honest the stout .357 pistol load is 💥; large muzzle flash, recoil, blast 🔊. The fast, potent .357sig hits hard but IMO, the 9mm +P or a 155gr to 165gr .40 is a better choice. I often drop my LWB 🐺 barrel 9mm into my Glock 22 to carry on armed security details.
I agree with everything you said except 9mm t p and 40cal 165g don't compare with 357sig. Grab a Shooters Bible and check the ballistics 357sig has about 11 rounds over 500fpe and 9mm And 40cal together don't have that much check it out

Honestly basically feels like I’m shooting 9mm when I’m shooting the gen 5 23 it’s much smoother and less felt recoil than other gens.
I never loved my Gen4. The Gen5 does indeed shoot softer. It's a GREAT gun and better than the Gen4, no question.

You can stay with 9mm if you prefer. I have a 45 gen 5 9mm and put down a variety of 4 legged things due to the nature of my work. One shot of quality 9mm is all it takes.
Was 1st pistol I owned still have it Glock 27 my 43x was discontinued the two tone was and my Glock 36 which I carry often .before that I had a 357 mag traded in on. Pistol then went back to revolvers til I got a smith and Wesson 0:02 357 now into collecting 0:02 pistols .i own just about every caliber pistol they make .

Speaking of differences in holsters. I have a 43x and 43x mos. The holster for the 43x does not work on mos due to the rail on the mos version
Waoo, the Glock 23 gen. 5 is great pistol and the recoil is very, very controllable. I like Glock 19 (9mm) but the Glock 23 gen. 5 is awesome pistol, repeat, the recoil very, very controllable. The new pistol Glock 23 is a HOME RUN.

I "rushed" and bought a G23 Gen 5 about a year ago. A few months back saw the same in MOS. I am still debating on selling the old one and getting the other, milling the slide, or buying a M.O.S. slide. I am still undecided on that, but I love my G23 Gen 5. My first "real" gun was a G27 Gen 3. This is a way easier shooting weapon.
I just got a SIG P320 RXP X-Compact and upgraded to the WC X-Carry and Carry II grip modules. Of course a much easier shooter in a 9mm, but I am loving the Red Dot. So I'll soon have to figure out if I want to stick with only my TruGlo Tritium PRO Night Sights, upgrade to a new M.O.S. G23, or get a slide (costs about what I paid for the original.) Plus the need for suppression heights are a must as they are great on my SIG.
And BTW I love Don's Weaponry as it was the first range experience that I ever had and a shot out to Cleve who was a great range master. I'll definitely have to stop by when I am home again.

The reason slide is wider in my opinion is because some 40 cal ammo has higher pressures . Underwood for one has some of their ammo pressures getting close to some 10 mm's

While I kept my Glock 19 duty gun, when I retired I bought a Glock 23. I love both guns and alternate carrying. Also own a Glock 27. People complain between .40 and 9...why not carry both?
The gen5 guns have also gone back to being a one pin instead of a two pin on the locking block/slide lock. Also, the barrels are not interchangeable with previous generations.
Gen 5 barrels at least in 9mm will work in Gen 1 - 4 guns, just not the other way around. The reason why the Gen 5 .40 S&W barrels may or may not work is because they are actually larger in diameter so is the slide.

If you undercut the trigger guard on your Gen 4 you'll find it raises your hold on the grip enough for the other two fingers fall right into the groves!

Full co witness is more crowding, especially in a gun fight, and yes I've been in several gun fights, most lasting a 5, to 10 mins and one lasting for 3 days, I believe 1/3 co witness is superior, less crowding and you can deploy both separate or together.
Just a side note, I’ve changed all my followers in all my Glock magazines to the orange followers. On my 19’s, 23’s and 32’s I’ve also changed the mags to the new gen 5 base pads. They give my pinky finger just a tiny bit more to hang onto. Great video sir, as usual.
.40 caliber round moving at almost magnum velocity. What's the problem? Oh, it's "snappy! Well, It's a firearm, would you expect anything less? This is a great round and the 23 is a workhorse. Carried one on duty for a lot of years, bought it from the department when I retired, still carry it, absolute zero problems. Learn to effectively shoot and the imaginary problems with the .40 will go away and you will have a caliber for self defense that will get the job done.
Since the slide is thicker and heavier to handle the pressures of the 40, how is the recoil? My gen 3 Glock 23 is quite snappy but I train with it so I am used to it.

I had a 23 gen 4 for some time. Not sure why but I shot that gun the best, found easy to carry, and like the higher mag cap given its a bigger cartridge. I shot that gun better than my old 9mm SIg and a few Springfield XDs. All great guns but gonna stick to the Glock

Guess it depends on brand. For best energy and terminal ballistics; 135 and 150/155 grain is the sweet spot. Do what it takes to get over the 500ft. lbs.

@@cluckbent6466 Yep, one of the FBI’s firearm instructors involved with the creation of the .40 S&W specified a preference for the 180 grain bullet traveling at 950 fps because he wanted it to have similar characteristics to a .45 ACP round. Not only does a heavier bullet traveling at subsonic speeds have less snap than a lighter and faster round but it’s the heavy chunk of lead and it’s greater momentum that actually gave the 45 ACP its reputation as being a “hard hitting” round. Calculated energy doesn’t always translate into “useable” energy which the Thompson and LaGarde experiments back in 1904 quickly discovered. No modern testing method is capable of showing what a test on living creatures can show. Gel blocks and theories pushed as fact can’t replace that which is why I haven’t bought in to all the BS marketing involved with the 9mm. 9mm is capable but it ain’t equal to the bigger calibers especially with the heavier bullets.

The 5th gen mags have cutouts in them sonic you swapped the mag release to lefty, you're good to go. 4th gen down, you can't. The slide is a bit wider for the weight to help mitigate the felt recoil. And the 5th gen also has a marksman barrel. Btw, love them .40s.

My question: WHY do firearms mfg's apparently make pistols/revolvers in a size that only fits me, as I am apparently the only living man in America with small hands?? Wouldn't it make more sense to mfg them in a size that fits 99.999% of buyers to start with?? Why target me as pattern?? Would the cost of the extra material needed to expand the size be prohibitive?? I chose to view your vid(because you sound factual) because I am currently entertaining the idea of buying a G...G...Ggg...Glock. I have had ample opportunity since circa 1986. I didn't buy then, because it was thick/ chunky/honestly ugly to me. AND TOO BIG FOR MY HANDS to feel comfortable. I've been eyeing the 23/gen 5, BECAUSE it look like maybe a good fit.
