that's about what i shot the one time i played there!!! it was also the greatest day of my golf life because i actually had a par on 17. not so much anywhere else.
Is the rough wild in normal conditions? I’ve heard that the rough (as much or more than tour speed greens) is what makes these courses that much more difficult for the average golfer.
@@redhed9776 I remember walking TPC Harding Park during and after the Amex Championship in 2005. What passed for "rough" in the tournament was a joke, it was MAYBE fluffy first cut grass at the worst; your shot would've had to roll all the way up to the fences/water's edge for the grass to be sufficiently thick to actually impact your shot. With the level of physical fitness/skill the average PGA golfer has, hitting into the rough basically meant nothing. Grow the rough longer to actually penalize wayward shots and make more OB/2-shot penalty areas, and you won't need to hyperextend the courses and make them real estate nightmares to make them challenging.
@@redhed9776 'wrong' in the sense that I was getting enjoyment out of watching their misfortune. And yes I play in the wind! Best time to get a tee time!!! haha
@@stangetz534 I think it was basically everything. Spinny, hit an upslope, and the wind gust was strong enough it might have almost been going backwards by the time it hit the ground.
Living in Kansas, we have wind like this a lot. If you want to play, you have to play in wind like this especially in the spring. I’ve hit driver on a 140 yard par three before.
There spoiled by the conditions they usually get. It’s usually 30c+ with no wind. I’d prefer to watch more rounds like this were the pros have to think and not just pull out driver lob wedge every hole
When this tournament was going on I was in Huntsville, AL right in the middle of the snowstorm. Everything north of Birmingham got absolutely destroyed with snow. What a crazy weekend.
I’ve vacationed to PVB my whole life and finally got to play Stadium Course last year. Worst score of my life but my favorite course in the world. Some day I’ll make it on 17 😂
Pretty much every shot on 17 was a swiped cut, I get a draw would probably run out over the back but just hit it straight and high with a couple clubs extra!
from a pro caddy told me last yr, most greens we play have too much slope for the Pros. I think he said nothing over 13*, iirc. I told him it wasn't fair to amateurs... he agreed.
@ Robert Wynkoop I used to carry a couple of older/range balls whenever I played a water hole because I knew my first shot was going to be perfect but the water gods would pull it in anyway.
Bay Hill and Sawgrass are EXACTLY how PGA Tournaments should be week to week. Im sick of seeing -20+ tournaments when we scratch or better golfers have to deal with the worst conditions as our best conditions to only shoot even par and be lapped by bombers with lob wedge in hand every hole
It's crazy how many of them look like they've never hit a knockdown shot before. High winds make you do weird things and some of those swings were a mess! Playing in the wind is so tough, especially on a course not designed for it. Brutal day
Still after all these years of the Players Championship, the 17th hole continues to be one of the most polarizing and controversial holes in golf. I personally love it, and don’t think it’s unfair at all. The green is a big target for these guys, but there’s no doubt that wind like this makes it incredibly difficult.
It is big but even when they hit it, it might zip off or hop off. In normal conditions it's a fun hole to watch when the pressure is on down the stretch.
I am defo going to ease up on myself if the best players on the planet can't hit a green 136 yards away. I can't work out if I am disappointed or relieved
seeing all of those shots go in the water why the does the old miller lite comercial of Bob Uecker hitting his golf ball under water come to mind. Geee I wonder why none of them tried to play if out of the water like Bob........LOL. That wind just looked bad.
"INSANE WIND"??????? Have you ever played golf in North Dakota? Winds here are 25-30 MPH all the time, I have played quite a bit when it is over 35 MPH. Those flag sticks in this video make me think that wind is around 20MPH at most.
I would love to work on a PGA course. I’ve been working as an assistant greenkeeper for the last 6 years and want the opportunity to pick the workers brains for any tips/tricks to bring back to my little city course.
Goes to show you that as good as these men are, they couldn’t hack it on a cold wet Thursday night playing stoke lol. (Premier league joke the footy fans will get it)
Insane trajectories on 17 above all. Most shots start with a gentle, decent draw then fly desperately swept away to the right by those swirling winds. Unpredictable.
Can we actually some of the traces of shots that made it? 17 played less difficult than 18 (on Saturday at least, from what I understood), so surely there has to be a good compilation in there ;)
Bru I swear the crowd have some influence to the ball coz the roars are so loud from the moment the ball leaves the club face...it’s as though the roars are willing the ball into the water 😂😂😂😂 17th shows cruelty to the highest degree.
Had the once in a lifetime opportunity to play this course last fall with my son. Shot a solid 124💪🏻
couldn't have done any worse on that hole than the Pros did !!!!
Great then! ✌️

I would be thrilled with a 124 on this course because then I'd be able to say that I played it.
This would be the type of coverage me and my buddies would get.
Before we even started drinking! 😂
island par 3s, last time I had one lost 4 balls and still did not make it.
My words exactly 🤣
Golf is so much more interesting to watch when the course and/or conditions are tough.
Exactly instead of birdies and eagles all the time
I like Shauffele's attitude, he always smiling. I would like to try to do same thing in my golf!
th-cam.com/video/VaRjLdWTJCw/w-d-xo.html
Man I know it's wrong, but I loved seeing them hit it in the water and struggle with the wind.
why is it wrong for them to have conditions we normally do ??

What a fun day to watch golf.
I watch some of this live today...... it . was . utter . carnage!!!!
The spin at 1:49 is so insane it makes the shot look sped up
Wind helped, too??? crazy shot.
Totally. The shot looked stuck in fast forward.

absolutely love these videos, makes me feel less alien!
that audio at 6:13 for Keopka's shot was... perfect.
the editors are finally listening! thanks for the longer highlight video 👏 👏

Whoever wins this is really gonna earn that record prize money 💰
Hole 17 certainly guarantees an unending supply of range balls and steady work for the divers who bring them up from the depths!
Makes me feel better about my game, because I do all those shots often
Welcome to winter golf fellas
I did not watch this for fun yet it was entertaining and filled with deep meaning. Explanation… golf.
The large majority missed short right on 17 by 20 yards ……. That’s crazy conditions when the pros play like us clowns 🤡
Wind direction was changing so much damn near impossible to gage look at the waves

@@DanShvons I think it depends per course most of them are far harder than courses available to me but the same may not be true for you.
You’d get destroyed by the courses that they play with the thick grown out rough and fast greens. They are pros they know what they’re doing
@@Mcbeef34 That's what I was subtly trying to get at lol
I'm glad Koepka put a damn hat on, that blonde mop on his head looks ridiculous.

Never seen Koepka laugh so hard! Even if it was sarcastic.
Fake laugh. Just like Jimmy Fallon.
If Horschel knew it, why did he hit that shot?
Have to blame someone aka caddy
thats why nobody takes him seriously anymore. He's always been know to be pretentious and stuck up
If you try to hit a cut into the wind you're gonna have a bad time
Pretty much every shot on 17 was a swiped cut, I get a draw would probably run out over the back but just hit it straight and high with a couple clubs extra!
Not on Trackman !
Apparently they’re still trying to clear the water on 17 as we speak!🤦♂️ ⛳️🤣
I watched this today. It was ridiculous. Everyone was washing their balls!
Xander's approach on 16 was very good, but on a Pete Dye track, one must be perfect. This was a fun tournament to watch.
Learned to play golf in central/southern Wyoming. Talk about rough long days. Didn’t know how to play without it when I moved from wyo.
This is the type of difficulty I want to see for the elite best of the best players. Week in, week out.
from a pro caddy told me last yr, most greens we play have too much slope for the Pros. I think he said nothing over 13*, iirc. I told him it wasn't fair to amateurs... he agreed.
windy 17th is basically a freak show for the crowd. they're all like, 'let's see what the next monstrosity will look like' XD
This looks like my group on the 17 sawgrass replica back in high school lol
I don't know why but this makes me feel good about myself 😋😑
Nice to see the real stats, thanks pga
By far the most waterballs I’ve seen in a single round of a PGA tournament…. looks like a round my buddies and I would play…..
@ Robert Wynkoop I used to carry a couple of older/range balls whenever I played a water hole because I knew my first shot was going to be perfect but the water gods would pull it in anyway.
Why is this more fun than watching their succeesses
So many shot tracers...so little time!!! GOB!!!!
Watching these are better than antidepressants after a round.
This gives me hope
"God dang it Jordan" 🤣
Great to see the pros challenged. The have it too easy too often
Brutal!! 😬
I was actually there that day sitting at 17. Yeah this was in Florida, but it was also cold that day.
I kept saying "Aim left, aim left" at the island green shots but they all started centre?
Amazing video. 👍
Damn it looks like I should be out there
I checked, no vacancy till 2023.😅😅😅😅
I must only play in strong wind, because that looks like my golf game!
Seeing Collin and Spieth struggle like that was just brutal to watch for me

Who has a ball grabber?? there is a couple hundred bucks worth of brand new pro v 1s in there
With printed pro names on em
Unbelivebel 😳
I told my wife it's fun to see this from pros cuz this is basically how my rounds look normally.

2:04 why I don't play a fade.
the best in the world missing a green from 136 by 20 yds. oof.
"Hey I´m Brooks Koepka and i just hit 2/2 in the water on 17. Also shot a 81 in my second round"

Tough call. Not
dustin johnson still has a long way to go if he wants to keep up with the big hitters like deshambo
45 balls in the water on hole 17 alone.

😂
On this day, I wish the commentators would have had energy closer to the WWE than the PGA

they can come join us mere mortals
Those birds on 16 need to take cover.
All these guys need Tiger to show them how to do it

We assume wrongly that pros hit nothing but great shots and that we should too.
all tournaments should be like this instead of the mini golf that gets dealt up week in week out
