    May i suggest:
set the compound sled when cutting a metric thread to 29°
when cutting a imperial thread to 26.5°
scratch on the workpiece using the crosslide
set the crosslide scale to 0
feed in with the compound sled
    cut the thread
when ya reach the gully retract the tool with the crosslide
return the carriage with the lead scew
set the crosslide again to 0
feed in with the compound sled
    cut the thread
when ya reach the gully retract with the cross slide
You will have a slack in the lead screw therefore the tool runs not exactly in the cutted threadgroove when returning.
You can see, that the tool is taking a chip when returning.
Thread cutting is a meditative work ;-)
    Greetings: Dieter

      Hi Dieter,
That’s great advise I have heard of this method before but never tried it. It’s definitely something I’m going to experiment with in the future.
Again thank you and hope to hear from you again on the channel.

@@MachiningwithJoe The advantage of the compound sled set to half the angle is, the chisel cuts only on one side.
I dont have a specific "how to cut a thread" video, but here
      th-cam.com/video/LpH39tR4VdA/w-d-xo.html
you can see how nicely the chip is cut. (activate the subtitles)
also you have a thread clock on your lathe. Especially when the thread is longer, you can open the nut on the leadspindle, crank the carriage back and close the nut at the right moment.

I have the Warco super mini so this video is ideal, never having cut threads before.

You need to wind the tool out when you make your reverse pass, otherwise the backlash in the lead screw will cause the tool to cut on a different path.

    That's a decent explanation, thankyou

Thanks Ross as a beginner with now to much experience glad it helped.

Going in reverse would introduce some backlash on the gears surely? You can see your tool moving when it goes in reverse.

Nice job joe , helps to put some lubrication on when theading/maching ;) little brush with some oil works wonders , i picked up a warco mill recently and i am very happy with the quality

Hi James welcome to the channel. Thank you for the comments will have to try that out next time. Yeah a mill is going to be my next purchase. What model have you got ?

@@MachiningwithJoeits a wm-14 vs mill , purchased it faulty for cheap as chips and got lucky with it only having a blown resistor . I run a family machine shop so have experience with some decent machines , so far I am very impressed with the quality and feel of warco (next job is to install a 3 axis dro ).

There the best type of buys when there a cheap fix. I’m thinking about buying a mill in the near future and I like the look of the spec list of the Warco mills.
