- Hi everyone. This is my entry into Markus and Joachim annual Group Build. This year they have chosen Wheeled Vehicles in Military Use. My project will be the conversion of Airfix's 1/35 scale Austin K2 into the K2 used in the iconic film Ice Cold In Alex.

They used 8 Ambulances in Ice Cold In Alex. Somewhere cut in half for interior filming. My Dad was an Afrika Korps soldier extra. He was in Libya in 1957 with the RAMC during filming. Great project and build.
Great story my friend and many thanks for sharing. Take care and happy modelling
An amazing level of detail in this build Steve, I will be looking forward to the following videos, cheers.

Hi Shawn. That's kind of you to say. Take care my friend and have a cracking New Year
Great job on the wheels! A lot of research and, most of all, patience! Congrats Steve!
There has been a lot of research on this build. Lost count of how many times I have watched the film LOL. Many thanks for your kind words. Take care my friend and speak soon
Nice kit choice Steve, look forward to your build with your after markets.😊
Hi David. As the build proceeds I seem to be buying more and more.LOL Two fire extinguishers turned up yesterday. Having a lot of fun with this build. Many thanks for stopping by my friend. take care and speak soon
Awesome new project Steve ✨👍✨
Cheers Dave. Really appreciate the comment and your continued support. Take care my friend and Happy New Year!
That lettering works on the tire! : )))))
I'm glad you said that. I was worried it was a bit much. I think they are kinda neat. Happy New Year to you. Looking forward to seeing some more of your amazing dios this year. Take care my friend and happy modelling
well, it turned out that i indeed didn't finish my two dioramas of 2023 which were initiated in 22. XD Some tires do have bumpy letterings on them : )))
A
Steve hello. A superb detailing job as always. The wheels are a kit in themselves. I wish you an Happy New Year my friend
Hi LZ. Many thanks for stopping by and commenting. I hope you are well and have a fantastic New Year. Take care my friend
I always enjoy watching good works.
Thats very kind of you to say. Many thanks for stopping by and commenting .Take my friend and happy modelling
This had to be done with this kit and I a glad you are doing it Steve.👍👍😉 I love this film and I did teh 1:76 Airfix kit as a "Name That Film" dio. Superb work on the tyres alone and can't wait for the next update mate.👏👏👏👏
Hi Al. During the research stages I was unable to find a highly detailed conversion by anyone else. The 4x4 chassis seems to put a lot of people off. There are loads of changes that need to be made and I am slowly working my way through them. Next up will be the chassis. Many thanks for looking in and have a great New Year
Steve, I can't help but admire your detailed work. I look forward to seeing really great results.
Thats very kind of you to say my friend. Many thanks for looking in and happy modelling!
Iconic film. I've seen it a few times. Great project. A lot of research to get things accurate for the vehicle in the film. The wheels are looking superb, great scratch building.
Thanks for all the very enjoyable videos you have put up over the last year. I look forward to many more in the year to come and wish you and yours a good 2024.
Happy New Year Jim! Well here we go. Another year at the bench. It was a lot of fun last year so hopefully much more of the same this time around. I hope you and the family had a great festive period. The research on this build has been a lot of fun. I wish I could meet the guys who put the film K2 together. They could answer a hell of a lot of questions I have LOL. Once built the big challenge is still to come. Painting it monochrome! Take care my friend and many thanks for your continued support
Like it Steve and who doesn't like a Katy although i always like the series one landrover that is off in the distance in the final dock scene 😉😊. Regards Gav.
There are many stories from the film that are now in folklore. However it wasn't until I researched this build that I heard about the landrover mistake. Many thanks for popping in and commenting. Take care my friend and have a great New Year
Hello Steve, your eye for even tiny details is truly unique! ...and the implementation amazes me! Great job in every way! Cheers, John
Hi John. Happy New Year my friend. Lots more mad detailing to come. Many thanks for stopping by and commenting. Take care my friend and happy modelling
Very interesting project Steve, I'll be following along to see how it turns out. Good luck with it. Cheers Bob 👍
Hi Bob. Great to have you along for the ride. Many thanks for stopping by and have a great New Year
Hi Steve... ok... wow... that's really a masterpiece! I like your idea of basing yourself on the film... a challenge but one that is fun and in the end creates a unique model... Hats off my friend... a big hug and a happy new year, cheers Markus
Hi Markus. Many thanks for your kind words and organising this great GB. The best is yet to come when I try and paint it B&W like the film.! Have a great New Year my friend and take care
Nice work on the wheels /tyre's, great added details
Hope you have a very Happy New Year Steve 🎉
Happy New Year to you too Tom. Hope you and the family have a great time. Many thanks for stoppoing by and commenting. Take care my friend
Hi Steve. A very meticulous and detailed work with the wheels. The result is absolute great.
With such work the conversion will become a master build in the end!
I wish you all the best for the next year and further a good time with the Austin. Joachim
Hi Joachim. Many thanks to you and Markus for organising another fantastic GB. It certainly is a highlight of the modelling calendar. I am having a lot of fun with this project with a lot more alterations and detailing to come. Take care my friend and have a great New Year
The conversion is really amazing next level work. Looking forward to the next stages. Thank you Steve!
Really appreciate your kind word's my friend. Happy New Year and happy modelling!
I’ve got a feeling this is going to be a good one. As a kid I watched Belgium TV on my free Wednesday afternoons. They broadcasted these old black and white movies, which I loved. This one I must have seen several times and how nice it is to see another fan. Though I must admit the memory is a bit hazy after all these years. I’m going to enjoy your future posts.
Cheers, Any.
Oh and a Happy New Year.
Hi Any. I was brought up with this film and have always wanted to build the ambulance. I wish I had used the Gecko kit but I already had the Airfix one on pre order. This project has been a great excuse to watch the film again - several times actually LOL. Take care my friend and many thanks for your continued support
@@SteveJonesScaleModellingSite you’re welcome. You can imagine my surprise as I’ve never actually met anyone who knows about these old movies. You’re the first, and then you are going to build the ambulance! I couldn’t be more thrilled. Where were you when I was ten years old
Hey. Steven - wow I’ve just bought this kit today, really looking forward to seeing your build, btw fantastic movie. Happy New Year my friend.
Hi Liam. It is a basic kit which needs a lot of cleaning up but the fit is a good one. I hope you are well and many thanks for stopping by. Happy New Year and happy modelling
@@SteveJonesScaleModellingSite I’m happy with basic 🤣 cheers take care
Glad to see you doing this conversion ,Steve, as I've got most of my parts to do same and your reference and guidance will be a great help. Best wishes for the New Year.👍😎 Pete🤓
Hi Pete. I really wanted to put this build down as a base for others to come along and improve. I'm so pleased to hear you will be giving this project a go yourself. Next I will be doing the chassis which I have had a lot of issues with so hopefully you will be able to do a better job. Take care my friend and thanks for stopping by
@@SteveJonesScaleModellingSite I was talking to Bob about it recently as we knew about the 4x4 chassis change. I hadn't spotted the Pirelli spare though. You've got good eyes to spot that detail👍. Finding a useable female is becoming a problem😉. Happy New Year, Steve and good luck with the rest of it👍😃
There is a scene where the rears are Perelli tyres but there was no way I was doing three of them LOL. Fortunately most of the film all four tyres are dunlops.
Nice
Hi FreeMan. Many thanks for stopping by and Happy New Year my friend
Wonderful work as usual Steve, really looking forward to seeing your next installment of this build! Happy New Year!!! Johnny
