You are the right man Chuck, KISS, Keep it simple seaman,
I have been using this self steering arrangement for a couple of years on my 20 ft boat, in Brazil. It steers on all courses, even when the wind comes form the stern, under gennaker !
I don't understand why many sailors use windvanes or electric steering devices. I use the system successfully even on my 13 ft daggerboard dinghy.
Smooth sailing four you and Laura.

thanks, your teaching me your funny but useful self-steering system. its inspiring me a lot. i should do the experiment how to let my boat go straight without a wind hydro vane system. i think you can teach me a lot of things about handling and fitting of a small sailing boat. im a less than sunday sailer now, 500km in land im living. im a dreamer of sailing and seeing around the tropical Pacific Ocean with 22 or 25 foot sloop that i have not had yet. i love travelling.

Does your system work when one shot of big blow? at that time, your boat luffing well? does your tiller end correctly response to move to lee side. doesnt it do counter rudder? does it work for up-wind. if it works like good hydro wind vane, i can forget about wind vane to buy. peace.
