What we've learned is to never trust anyone 100%, but to keep vigilant, put yourself first, give only what you can afford to lose, never leave your husband/bf alone with your bff, never sacrifice beyond your ability. If you give, do so without expectations. This means never let your husband be her bff, never loan her money, esp 10k which you know someone who already has financial trouble will never be able to pay back. There is a reason she didn't go to a bank. It us bc the bank will say no. Don't ever sign over your home equity, never cosign a car, a home, any big item. If your friend/family asks you for money, hand her what you can as a gift and say no to the loan. We are created unequal and no matter how good of friends, sooner or later one will run the race better than the other and jealousy will develop and sabotage ensue. If you're the better off person, you will be the object of jealousy and betrayal--hence, the saying, "it is lonely at the top.". Expect it. Anything else is naivete. But this doesn't mean every friend will betray you. You are also a friend and you didn't betray her. There are those who are like you but overall very few friends are loyal, so tread carefully and set limits. Never reveal everything to anyone. Always keep something for only you to know. Don't be afraid to have friends but be smart. Meanwhile, work to support other women rather than to sabotage. Women should be each others advocate. And stay away from the serpents.
