it was so great to be a bball fan in this time. As a diehard Bulls fan, im especially happy to have grown up with this era. So much love 4 the game, so many great talents. so much passion and heart and HONOR. the 90s was the era. Not just in sports, but in America in general. Music, TV, Sports, just life in general. man i miss the 90s
Aaron Schutte sure have! but these bulls had to compete in a time where the league had not only expanded greatly in the amount of teams, but also was fast paced, physical and more stars than back when the Celtics were ruling the league. There is no denying Bill Russell's greatness, nor the talent or greatness of those Boston teams. But you have to put things in to perspective considering the amount of games and relative strength of the competition.
I would respectfully argue that with the significantly smaller number of teams in the 60's (I think it was like 16) the league was FAR less diluted. So the expansion you speak of actually lessened the amount of talent per team because more teams were drafting in the 90s than in the 60s. In Russell's time, plenty of teams were full of hall of fame players and all stars. There were legends like Bob Pettit, Wilt Chamberlain, Billy Cunningham, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, just to name a few. The celtics had to battle all those players and win year in and year out. I understand that it's hard to place Russell in the modern era (although I think he'd still be a hall of famer) but you can't just gloss over 11 championships because it happened a long time ago. I am cool with people ranking Jordan over Russell (although I think it's a razor thin margin) but Jordan Pippen and Rodman over Russell, Cousy, Sharman, Heinsohn, Sam Jones and company? Hard sell my friend. At least, if you ask me.
And I'll say that with free agency making it harder to keep a team together and a league that's infinitely more talented than the 60s shit show, you're wrong. This bulls team would win every year back then and you're an idiot to think otherwise.
When Marv Albert says, "It is Michael Jordan time" it makes you think for a second of his greatness. Can you think about it today? Would he dare ever say, "It is LeBron James time" or "It is Stephen Curry time?" Not taking anything away from those guys, but it just shows how dominant Michael Jordan was.
One of my all time favorite games. I was 11 when this game happened. I remember watching this in a dingy apartment on a 30 year old tv, (at least that's what it looked like" I remember being mad that the Bulls were losing to start the fourth quarter. And of course when they made the comeback, I was screaming and jumping up and down. And then the big Steve Kerr game winner was incredible. A great time to be a sports fan.
I remember watching this at 12 years old…. It was the old good time ! The Home Court advantage has been HUGE for the Bulls... Like their experience in Finals, that didn't have the Jazz...
@@brandonfreeman6517 Yes but the Bulls were a good road team (with their experience of Champions). The Jazz lost 2 games at home, too much to win a NBA Finals.
True. I laugh when people say how deep that Bulls team is. They had a bench full of scrubs (except Kukoc) and their starting lineup had players past their physical primes. And despite that they kicked everyone's ass.
The bulls was the best team of all time i saw this game when i had 14 years old for me the best Final that i saw and the best game in a NBA Final what emotion in the end of this game just amazing the best time ever.
Thanks for posting all these games. You've become quite an exceptional editor. I thought you did an incredible job on these games. I hope you post all the 98 playoff games!
All of us who watched this in the early to late 90's were so fortunate to have witnessed history in the making and as the years go by the more I realize what a special player Michael Jordan and his Bulls teams were. I love Kobe and the Lakers but no team in the last 40 years has even been on the same level of these Bulls.
Who can say he ended the championship with the dunk? Tony Kukoc! I know that Steve`s shot was more important, but this dunk was like a last nail in the coffin!
i remember bein 9 yrs old watchin this game live, at the time even though i just knew the bulls was gonna win, it was almost scary to me how good this jazz team was back in 97
Amen... Take Jordan, Pippen and Kukoc out of that team and they definitely don't come CLOSE to even getting to the PLAYOFFS, let alone the NBA Finals. Which just illustrates the greatness of Jordan and to a slightly lesser extent Pippen.
This game took me back to Game 6 of the '92 Finals against Portland when the Bulls entered the 4th qtr with a double digit deficit and Pippen and the reserves lead the way back. History repeated itself.
Thanks for showing the move MJ made @ around 5:45 when he leaps in the air and at the last second turns his back to Ostertag and the basket and flips the ball over his head (even though he misses it). The photo of this play is one of the most displayed of MJ during the 96-97 season.
what is really amazing is that Jordan planned that last situation when Kerr hit for 2, it wasnt a coincidence, he knew exactly how to get the open shot, he didnt force anything, of course he could've done it, he could've tried to make a hero from himself but he chose to involve his teammate. This is how you build trust and confidence in your team. MJ the best player, MJ the best leader
@JZ2001JC Yeah he was certainly no MJ or even Pippen when he played in the NBA, but he was easily one of the best European players that ever played in the NBA and overall as well. He would have been a go to guy or one of the go to guys had he played on any other team in the NBA in the 90's.
Totally correct. Anybody who would even dare compare the Jordan Era with the nonsense the NBA has turned into must not have watched the NBA in the 90's. I travel all over the world and I am from Chicago. The Jordan Bulls are the one thing EVERYONE EVERYWHERE knows about Chicago. They know the entire team and all the players from the time. But you mention LeBron James to a guy in Italy or the Caribean and they don't know who the Hell you are talking about. The Jordan Bulls were rockstars!
Kerr hit the clutch shot, but with 5 seconds left, it was Pippen's steal that sealed the game. Especially the way Utah was draining mid and long range shots that night. He quite literally stole that game from them. It should have been theirs to win/lose and instead they never got the chance.
+Dave Green Are you kidding me Dave? The rim is still moving when Anderson's ball hits the rim? It absolutely affected the layup. Delusional to think not. Also, comments on Jordan kicking Stockton's legs out before he could get back to cover Kerr?
@hrivethead. LOL actually 6 because Robert Parrish was on Bulls bench LOL and this was his last season at like age 40 something lol. Also heck Kukoc could be in the Hall of Fame and yes I know he wasn;t consistent enough like an MJ or Pippen was but remember he lit up guys playing international ball before coming to the NBA so that may get him in the hall of fame.
Jordan is the best NBA player of all time not only because he is -FIRST all-time in points per game in NBA history -2nd all-time in steals in history. -1 of the best all-time in point. -3rd all-time in steals per game in NBA history -14-time NBA All-Star -Rookie of the Year -Defensive Player of the Year -4-time NBA MVP -6-time NBA Finals MVP -11-time All-NBA selection -9-time All-Defensive Team BUT BECAUSE EVERY PLAYER AROUND HIM GOT SO INSPIRED THAT THEY WOULD BECAME A SO MUCH BETTER PLAYER
I agree. MJ was the man and his handle was ridiculus. The famous dunk on Ostertag in the 98' season is a perfect example of his handle. If I were MJ too why would I get all flashy if I know I could get by you whenever I wanted. Hell, why dribble if you pop fade aways all day.
MJ's era had ledgends. Whoever said they lacked good players is on the pipe. There were so many to count: Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olojiwan, David Robinson, Patric Ewing, Anfernee and Tim Hardaway, Alonzo mourning, Grant Hill, a YOUNG SHAQ, Reggie Miller, Karl Malone and John Stockton, Charles Barkley, Dekembe Mutumbo, Clyde Drexler, Mugsy Bohges just to name a select few that don't count The Bulls team. If i missed any (and i'm sure i did) please feel free to continue the list.
@olay1196 Someone here on YT showed that about 75%-80% of the NBA's top 50 players played in MJ's era. There were also more 40-50 win teams or something like that. So there were a lot of good players in MJ's time, and that included many of the premier names today like KG, Kobe, Shaq, Ray Ray, etc. MJ's resume speaks for itself, and the era he played in was defensively tougher. People compare today's players to 33-40 yr old MJ. '87-'91 MJ there is really no comparison at all.
haha with 5 rings he is happy in a very calm way. I remember reggie miller got so much more excited in the ECF in 98 after hitting a 'not a game winner ' shot, lol. by the way, the last in bound pass by utah was really bad, as if they had already given up, they still had a chance to tie or win if they did it right.
@hrivethead. About Kukoc....He will make Hall of Fame based on his International Career. In Croatia leagues he was the Michael Jordan over there. So he will make it based on that. His NBA career may not have been hall of fame like but he was still very dangerous.
so kerr's shot wins it basically...then pippens steal pretty much seals it up...and the kokouch dunking it really put them away and ends the game...all three of these guys technically won that final...
@Shizzlepop Yeah, he was the hero for this one...Id forgotten how close the game was, but Kerr let that last one go with all the confidence in the world
There's a play in the 4th quarter of this game where Jordan just faces up Russell at the 3-point line on the wing with Russell giving him literally 5-6 feet of ground, and Jordan just chooses to go baseline and goes right around Russell, forcing Russell to grab him around his waist to stop him with the foul. No other player I've ever seen has been able to just pick one direction and get by their man with the first step even when the defender was playing them for the drive as frequently as MJ.
yeap i was born in the 90s even though i didnt watch any basketball games during my childhood years(im 15 now) I watched full games on youtube etc trust me,i can understand whether players like lebron or howard are good or not

NO & THATS WHY I CANNOT STAND MJ COMPARISONS BILL EVEN WON ALOT OF RINGS BUT LOOK AT HIS COMPETITORS & THE LEVEL THEY PLAYED AT
best team.with the GOAT..hands.down..such a beauty to watch him.play..
dear god the crowds at classic bulls games were unbelievable. sends chills down my spine every time
Michael Jordan...what a legend. I was born in 1994 in Chicago in the middle of this run but I can still remember the screaming in my house.

God Bless you leon5676. Finally someone who isnt a troll (probably these teens of today who werent born in NBA golden 90s) and knows his hoops.
Anyone else notice Jordan's kick to the nuts on the pass to Kerr. "Natural basketball movement"
Can't say he's the best of the best but he was certainly my favorite to watch. He is tied at number one with many other greats.
Man. D Rose needs a Pippen. He gets that and I get to re-live my childhood and see 6 more championships

No the Golden Age was the Lakers-Celtics battle in the 80's. This is the Silver Age, but still damn good.

Kukoc traveled with 1.6 seconds to go. Utah ball. Scottie Pippen also goal tended when he grabbed the rim.

Great posts, which series are you going to next?
The ending tho
So that's why they had a rematch in '98 (this game never ended with 0.6 seconds left).
