    I love seeing this travel kit in action!

    I only use my watercolour brushes with this pallet. I managed to get 12 colours in mine. I just put two colours in each pan. I first put colours in one side of each pan and let them dry by putting the pallet on a tilt. Then did the same for the other side of the pallet. Awesome. I love it.

      Ooh, that's a good idea! I never use much paint in one sitting anyway, so that's perfect!

    Very good, little and inspiring set up. Quite useful if you take a plane for a weekend somewhere, but I would empty the water brush before going through customs. Nice and relaxed little sketches with your granny and life cannot be better. Have a wonderful weekend, Miranda. V.

      That's what I do. The water brushes are easy to fill and it makes waiting much easier.

      I don't know about customs but I've taken three Koi waterbrushes through TSA. I have the kind with stoppers. I put them full along with their tops in my liquids bag. I think I had enough room in it to also put my Pocket Palette (made by Expeditionary Arts).

      Emptying the water brush is definitely the safe option as they will just make you throw it away if they have a problem with it. They do not give you the option to dump it out.

    I am loving mission golds pure pigments! They stay semi moist/mostly dry because of the honey they are made with. That’s also why they reactivate so easily. My only complaint if you can call it that is the adjustment for such pigmented, saturated paints!! They are truly a joy 🤩

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't specifically have the Pure Pigment set, but I do love these paints. So easy to use.

    • @pantalonious3984
      @pantalonious3984 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MirandaWatsonArt the Pure Pigment Set is just their paints that are made with pure pigments all put together into specific sets. They are the exact same paint as the rest of the Gold Class Line they are just the single pigment colors. . . You should have a few of them in your set !

      Yes, that's right, and there are a few. Thanks. :-)

    Thank you for taking us along with your trip and sharing your palette.
    I love mini palettes and love watching people use them. I have the Pocket Palette by Expeditionary Arts and love the on-the-go nature of it. It's one of my favorite art things. Maybe someday I'll get the micro palette to the collection. In the meantime, I'm enjoying you use yours.
    I keep my mini palette in a small camera bag along with a magnetic clip, part of a handkerchief, Micron pen, Perfect Pencil, tiny Zigzag sketchbook, paper napkin, and three Koi waterbrushes. I have the Koi brand because of the stoppers. I leave them separated with water in the barrels and they've never leaked in this setup or in another travel one I have them in. I like the idea that I may only use one tip but don't need to refill that barrel as I have two others. Maybe something to think about with the waterbrush you don't use.
    I do need to carry a sketchbook separately with the camera bag. The zigzag sketchbook is good for something quick but very small. I did use it once plein air to do a quick flower. It was after a hike, 80 plus degrees, very minimal shade, and I didn't have a lot of patience.
    Hope you're having an awesome time in Moab and get to explore painting with your minimal setup.

      This is such fun info, Eileen! I'll have to look up your mini palette and see what it looks like. I'm so curious! I've heard of the perfect pencil; in fact, I bought one for my father-in-law for his birthday one year. It's awesome! I have three stopper for my Koi waterbrush still in my Koi palette, but I've used the brush in so many places now that they're not together anymore. Lol.

    This looked like so much fun. A lot to be said for keep it simple. Been wanting to try an Etchr Sketchbook. This one was reasonable so I ordered one.

    How fun!! After watching, I am inspired to get a micro portable painter like that and I’ve never tried a water brush. I may click your links and check them out! Have fun in Moab!

      Thanks, Julie. This is a fun setup! Any small palette works; the advantage to this one is that it can clip to your sketchbook so you don't have to hold it or find another place to set it.

    Oh wow - Flaming Gorge is not that far from where I live! Many people where I live recreate there. My husband and son have caught many fish there. Enjoy your trips! I sure enjoyed watching you paint!

      Oh, nice! It was about a four hour drive from my house. It's quiet and easy there. Reminds me of how Lake Powell used to be back in the good ol' days.

    Nicely done. While I've sketched on location, I've never painted outside. Very cool.

    I love that little ruler, it's so cute! It's like a challenge to find the smallest art bag that will fit a decent amount of art supplies, haha. You did well and it is a very useful looking kit. I am glad you got to do some sketches, and I hope you're having fun this weekend! 😊

      Isn't it cute? I know what you mean about the bag, lol. When I got home, I saw an even darker one on my shelf, and I was like, "Hmm...." It's a very fun weekend so far, thank you!

    It's so cool to see you getting used to a travel setup! I'm also going to make mine, but since I don't have that cute little pocket palette (nor the expeditionary one) I'll need to adapt myself with a daler Rowney aquafine! The tin is nice and skinny so I can use it clipped on the sketchbook. I'll be tomorrow tabling for an event and selling my art prints so if I get spare time I might doodle and watercolor 😅

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oooh, cool, good luck on selling your prints! Yes, that'd be a great travel palette. Are you using the paints that came in it?

      @cazumbandoartmaddy1728 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MirandaWatsonArt yes, I am! I quite like their paints, they are good student paints yet affordable. Better than Cotman, I think the selection of colors I have are on par in quality with Van Gogh!

    Thanks for the tip on the plastic nib. Have you tried a fountain pen on the paper?

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm... I'm trying to think. I've used a fountain pen many times, but I don't recall if it was ever specifically on watercolor paper or not. I'll try it this Inktober!

    Portable Painter Micro now has new pans that will hold 16 colors! Available from the company. I’m one of those that need at least 12.

  • @NaomiCoutureArt

    This looks like a great setup to paint outside. I have always want to try painting outside but I think the one thing I would miss is my blow dryer as I like to do a lot of wet on wet. I suppose if it's a bright hot day the sun would dry it a bit faster. Lovely paintings by the way :)

    • @MirandaWatsonArt
      @MirandaWatsonArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. :-) The last one I did in this video was in the sun and it dried really quickly. Not as much in the shade, obviously, but hard to get much wet-in-wet with this water brush. But fun!
