The phrases from 4:10 to about 4:25 could mend the most broken of hearts. Beautiful music beautifully played.

Thank you for bringing this beauty into the poor old world, full of miserable residents who really need it . . . like me.

    Magnificent performance.
krystal yang, Francois Lesure writes "Debussy sent this piano piece, entitled Ballade slave, on January 31, 1891 to the publisher Chondens together with two other pieces, Tarentelle styrienne and Valse romantique. He dedicated the composition to Anne-Marthe-Nelly Hottinguer, whose acquaintance he had made through the offices of her piano teacher, Debussy's school friend Rene Chansarel. When Debussy revised the work for publication by Fromont in 1903 he deleted the epithet "slave", Nonetheless, the influence of Balakirev can still be detected. The charm of the Ballade, the work of a twenty-eight year old composer, lies in its unconventional treatment of tonality and in certain pentatonic elements. Written at the same time as the Arabeques, it likewise fore-shadows the Toccata from Pour le piano.

This has been my favorite interpretation I have heard so far. You really take your time and let every chord sing. You allow the listener to really feel the beauty of every note and harmony. Thank you.

Such a pleasure to listen to you. And a wonderful performance. My favourite pianist of these romantic pieces by Debussy is Walther Gieseking. You are now another of my favourites :-) Thank You!
