  • While doing an EFI swap on my 1987 Nissan Pathfinder with a vg30i I found very few good videos about how to pull the ECU codes on the 1987-1995 Nissan Pathfinders and Hardbodies so I figured I'd film a bit of an explanation for everyone on how to get the codes of this old OBD I system.
    Once you pull the number you can find the list of error codes on my website: www.pathmakerp...

    Great video. Never knew it was that simple. Got a 93 was running great came out of store and won't start. Spark to distributor nothing to plugs. Replaced rotor,cap,and angle sensor still nothing from plugs. What's the silver little disk cd looking thing called? Anything would be grateful thank u

      That is very odd, have you checked/replaced your coil? Sounds like its not firing. Another common problem can be the fuisble links (the wires coming off your positive post of your battery). They work as fuses to not have your harness melt in case of a surge but they don't visibly change when they pop, but they can create weird electrical gremlins if one of the two wires has gone.

      @PathmakerProductions I've noticed that my rotor has changed positions once. Could that be I need new distributor or timing chain bad,?

      Its a bit of a different proceedure on the Terrano because you have to bridge the datalink connector on the ECM to get it to flash the codes at you. Sounds like I should go visit my buddy Mike that owns a Terrano and do another video for everyone! Cheers!

    Hello! Is there an adapter to convert this type of ECU to OBD2?

      Yessir, if you follow the link in the description you'll end up on my website where I have a more detailed explanation as well as a list of all the codes which will tell you what component is throwing out the error code.

    Great video im about to check mine out its a 1990 one day as i was pulling up to my house all gauges dropped no lights lost power but I can still jump solenoid and it will run it just doesn't really have any power in gear it revs with a slight mis in P or N i was thinking starter but ive owned several and this is a first key has power but don't turn the engine over and the gauges puzzle me take care

    • @PathmakerProductions
      @PathmakerProductions  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I would start by checking your fusible link (the 3 wires that come off the positive post on the battery) they can short and you can lose things and then tear your hair out trying to figure out why you have no power!

      @@PathmakerProductions I appreciate it the way it was running fine and all of a sudden when pulling in luckily at home the gauges all dropped and once I shut it off and tried to fire it back up it would kick on fuel pump and accessories lights etc. but gauges heater controls gauges/lights won't come on and won't engage starter but I can turn key on and cross the solenoid and it fires right up but my luck if I ran a push button I'd be afraid to get stranded with the family I used a test light and I have power coming off the fuse links on the terminal but greatly appreciate the reply I was going to sell it and fix up my z24 hardbody but after it did so good in the snow and ice I was leaning towards keeping it got a bunch of parts, tires and wheels then it laid down on me id rather do a head gasket job as to do guess work chasing my tail take care thanks again

    What does the ecu look like on a 1999 Nissan pathfinder

    • @PathmakerProductions
      @PathmakerProductions  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its an OBD2 system so you can plug a code scanner in to read the codes so no need to do this procedure. Plug is near the hood latch.

    My ecu is flashing the 1 2 3 4 5 when the key is tured on and does nothing when you rotate the dial clockwise and sometimes it stops flashing all together and i have to discharge the electrical to reset the ecu. And the truck runs like total dog shit.

    • @PathmakerProductions
      @PathmakerProductions  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The 1 2 3 4 5 is asking you which mode you want. If when it flashes 3 and you turn the dial back and it doesn't go into code reading mode you have something wrong with your ecu. In mode 3 at the very least it should flash 5 5 to tell you there is no stored codes. Do you know any other Nissan guys that can lend you their ECU to try and see if that is the issue?

    • @corymerry3399
      @corymerry3399 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PathmakerProductions yeah I understand the 12345 part is the modes but they start clicking thu the cycles with the key on acc and not touching the dial. When I try to turn the dial to select the mode 3 it stops flashing all together and no more clicks or lights until I drain the residual charge in the system to 0 vdc. I don't have another ecu to try unless I buy one from ebay...

    • @PathmakerProductions

      Sounds like you have a dickered ecm. Capacitors may be cooked. If you remove your ecu and take the cover off take a look and see if any of them are bulging and leaking. As long as you have a ground and power running to your ecu it should flash the codes not brick up like that so you've got something seriously wrong with it and the capacitors are over 30yrs old and known to be an issue.

      @@PathmakerProductionsok so I got the ecm from ebay and so far it works perfectly. It goes into diagnostic mode easily and flashes 5 red and 5 green for all good. However when I went to start it, it started and ran like new for about 5 seconds then it shut off and won't start again but cranks. Is there something I'm missing. It will start to fire but not start when I turn up the idle with the ecm. I have spark when cranking. Any help I appreciate

    What does this process help? Or do I’m other words?

    • @PathmakerProductions
      @PathmakerProductions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have a warning light on the dash of your Nissan Pathfinder or Hardbody then that indicates you have an error code stored in the ECU. Sometimes you'll have codes even without a light so typically if you're having a problem diagnosing an engine running issue you should start by "pulling the codes" to see what errors come up. A lot of guys just start throwing expensive parts at their engines before they even know what the problem is, so pulling the codes first will give you a bit of an idea where to start.
      Once you get into 1996 model year for every vehicle they were an ODB2 system and then you can just plug in a code reader to tell you the errors, but these ODB1 systems require you do go thru this process and count the blinky lights.

      @@PathmakerProductions oh ok thank you so much! I do I have light that will occasionally turn off and on, on my 95 Nissan Pathfinder so I’ll most likely have to end up doing this. Thank you for the info!!

    • @PathmakerProductions
      @PathmakerProductions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your codes get stored in there until the battery is unplugged for I believe 5minutes. So if you have any old codes they'll show up in there. I have a link in the description that takes you to the full list of what code is what on my website, to help out your search!
