Kelly Slater Makes An Appearance at Pumping Mentawais

Onboard the mighty Mangalui we scored pumping Kandui in the Mentwais islands of Indonesia. Kelly Slater made an appearance and put on a show for everyone on board.

What I have come to learn from surf travel is that there are so many 'nobody's' that CHARGE. When I lived in NZ, I used to love the pictures in Tracks magazine of random guys with a pot belly in a huge pit somewhere in South or West OZ with captions such as - We don't know who he is but love it, and look full white board with no stickers! I haven't experienced any other sport where so many top notch athletes have absolutely no aspiration to make it to the big leagues... and don't even get me started on the quality of female surfers found at Uluwatu alone!

I honestly don't think there's any more beautiful and absolutely perfect place on this planet then the Mentawi islands. The water looks like you could just drink it. The waves are freaking perfect and to see the best in the World ripping them up is just amazing. I honestly how to retire and park a big old boat right off the suckers one day. RLTW 3/75
