I agree with him that even TMCR crosswind is manageable by almost everyone. Go any other country and ride on open terrain and you get real crosswinds... If you can't ride deep wheels in SG you can't ride them anywhere else 😂

Butting aesthetics aside the new allez is a nice bike. One of the two go to alu bikes ( the other being Cannondale caad 13). A practical owner with an eagerness attitude in cycling. Hope the owner will try a steel bike next for complete comparison of comfort on road ! Great interview especially the health story part - inspirational !👍

there used to be an s-works version of the allez. but this was a long time ago. i think the last one with the s-works tag was back in 2013 or 2014.

Stiffness, I always thought that road vibration is a sign of "stiffness." But after riding aluminum, steel, carbon and titanium road bikes...Stiffness is not about road vibration. Vibration is from how the tubes are designed and tire size and pressure.
My steel bike has more vibration than my titanium even though it's a proven fact that steel has more compliance. But that is only true if the design of the frame is for Stiffness or to drown the road buzz.
I have 3 titanium bikes, 1 steel bike and their Stiffness have different levels. My steel has the most vibration of all simply because it was built to be crit bike with super rigid front end/fork.
My light rim brake titanium 15.5lbs with pedals is the most stiff of them all while still being very smooth on 25mm tube tires at 100psi each.
Stiffness is not about vibration. It's about how the frame responds to your pedal strokes on flats and standing climbs.
Great interview and I agree than titanium is the best for a non racer. The problem is finding the perfect balance of comfort and Stiffness when buying titanium. I found mine in 3 different builds lol...super soft, medium and stiff.

Nice bike! Those welds are really nice, as I weld aluminium for work. As a criterium focused bike, they are a perfect weapon!

    Why mtb pedals?
Because the perceived gains in road shoes for the vast majority of riders is minimal. Now take into the fact we are urban riding and stopping at traffic lights constantly I always clear intersections quicker and safer while noob road bikers are looking down at their pedals. And if you’re going to get mtb pedals on your road bike, the Look Xtrack he has are the ones to get - broader carbon platform with Ti spindles.

Aluminum frame also has a lifespan, only ones that doesn't particularly is steel and titanium(which actually does have one but its just substantially higher)

the lifespan is longer than the earth because they are overbuilt and humans put out very little power

Cool bike, seems a lot of speculation when it comes to the performance of those wheels and alu frame.
Especially the crosswind statement, let me get on that bike and go down TMCR and I will let you know. :)

It is not very stiff, it transfers the road buzz, those are two different things. When you feel the road buzz you think it is stiff. Carbon is ofc way stiffer than aluminum, this is the main reason there are carbon frames, although carbon is so stiff, it diminishes the road buzz a lot.
