- In the spring of '89 when I applied for the News Photographer job at KTSM-TV in El Paso it wasn't so much for the award-winning journalism of market 104 as it was the legends of Hueco Tanks, donkey shows, and cheap tequila. I managed to sneak out with Ch. 9's camera (and squeaky tripod) to document my new friends at my new favorite place. Not seen: Mike Head, Dave Head, Fred Nakovic, Chris Hill, Lynn Hill, Craig Luebben, Sketchy Ron, Pete and Queta and my loyal climbing partners and fellow members of the El Paso Climbers Club. huecoclimbers.org

"Back when I was your age, we didn't have crash pads and we used two chalk bags."
Verm !!!! Those were the best of times. Stone Crusade is on the bookshelf beside me along with countless guide books.
I was there in 89 and have great photos of Jackie Gallon leading bucket roof. ( Jackie is the red head with John's golden retriever) Why you tube gave me this video today and not 11 years ago???
Thank god he put down that carpet, that could have been dangerous.
The affectionately named Cocktail Napkin 😂
John "Vermin" Sherman...... the progenitor of The V Grades
I went for the first time in 1997 and even by then it was a zoo. Imagine having it to yourself like this. Ecstacy.
release more footage, please!!! WE WANT MORE, WE WANT MORE! i want to see what bouldering in Hueco Tanks was like back in those days!
Back in the 80's we were more into the bouldering than the filming.....No such thing as smart phones.
I like the dual chalk bags.
Wow. Dogs in the back country, 45 degree wall, the Donkey Show boulder. This is amazing! Thanks for sharing this! Was that the FA of Right Donkey Show?
❤
what a beautiful person. im glad i live in a world where folks like this exist. i aspire to be a true dirtbag someday…
Man, Sherman’s a classic and a rad dude and a great climber and I’ve even had the pleasure to climb with him in the past, but those double chalk bags just ain’t right.
I'm guessing his gear sponsor was okay with it.
such a fun looking route
Grande John ¡¡¡¡ mas videos de el , suban por favor.
.buena técnica y fuerza... su perro, ahí no mas¡¡ jaja
dual chalk bags, mullet, bong in the bushes; why is this still not the style?
During the time of its popularity its was known as the “Bi•Level”
The Mullet appellation appears about a decade later
Listen to the shoes clunk around. Crazy
Wow where can i see more?
free climbers are crazy
2:19-2:22....just so smooooooth
Are those Kaukulators that he's wearing
Im glad we got a good close up of him tying his shoes, the video would of been unsatisfying if we hadnt seen that
No, it still would of been the most satisfying thing you of seen on TH-cam in a long time.
