CATHEDRAL AMBIENCE | 1 HOUR of Calming Pipe Organ Music for Meditation, Study, and Sleep
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 2 ส.ค. 2022
- I wanted to improvise music for meditation and sleep on pipe organ with a cathedral ambience, so I recorded myself late at night on August 1, 2022 on the 1924 Skinner pipe organ at First UMC Pasadena, CA. I added the "Valhalla Room" reverb to achieve the sound of a massive dark cathedral, so the space heard here is exponentially bigger than where the organ actually lives. I invite you to play this while taking a nap, and let your dreams carry you off to a medieval church built from stone in an ancient time. 🎶💤
All the pics are my own, taken at Ely Cathedral. 📸

The Octogan at Ely Cathedral. Beautiful, thanks.
This improvisation of yours is one of my favourites of all time, the simplicity of it doesn't take away from it at all
I have always loved organ music being an ex cathedral chorister, I sometimes just sit in the choir stalls and revel in the sound as it vibrates through my body.
It's perfect, thank you kindly
Oh my gosh that first song was so heavenly. The slow chord transitions flows so naturally and build in such a lovely way. I wish there was sheet music for this so I could learn it myself! Great work!
Your voicing and registration is just exquisite. The art of organ voicing is often overlooked, but not here! Thank you, and well done!
As a professional singer who regularly performs in one of the grandest cathedrals in England (Winchester), with an equally grand organ, I didn't know what to expect when I stumbled across this. But it's wonderful. Just the right amount of reverb, and lush strings and flues particularly, make this really epic. in my opinion, this is how organ improvisation should be: the slow unfolding of ideas with a huge backdrop of space.
My instrument - an entire orchestra at one's fingertips. I haven't played since 85 and miss it.
Thank you for this music! ❤
This is very healing. God Bless you 🙏🕊🙏🕊
The kind of ethereal music that takes you to another place, away from your worries and troubles
This will quench and moisturize the dryness of the soul, and evoke comfortable feelings
What this Troubled World needs more of!
As a pipe organists daughter and musician myself - this is wonderful and so needed….the vibration of the pipes for prayer and the Skinner timbre! LOVE this, Aaron. Blessings from dallas!
Fellow organist here. I have no skills for improvisation. I love what you did!
Thank you!!
Th lush strings of a Skinner/Aeolian-Skinner organ are unmatched against any other organ.
The slow breakdown of dissonant and consonant chords is very calming and seems to take you on a journey. As for the organ, your stop list is PERFECTION. You slowly fold in high flute and reed stops at the end of a crescendo, all while keeping the pedal and great division stops coupled, grounding you. Well done.
I appreciate the compliments -- thank you!
As the daughter of someone who used to tune pipe organs for a living this sounds heavenly
Aaron!! I’ve always enjoyed seeing all these big long studying/meditative/ambient queues of music throughout the entirety of TH-cam. I have always- (as a full-on organist and obsessee of solely the king of instruments) -wanted to see these big queues for the organ!!! My wishes were sure answered! I’m glad someone else can give this much love to the organ too. Even love the ever-shifting dynamic videography in the background, what a beautiful touch to the whole package. Thanks Aaron!🙌
Much appreciated!! I'm the same way, I listen to ambient videos on TH-cam every week, and it finally occurred to me that pipe organ should have it's place in this realm as well. I plan on doing more, as I really enjoyed creating this one. Thanks again!
The queen reveals her love for God. Wonderful.
Your music therapy has helped me heal from a stroke. BLESSINGS LAJ
I'd like to listen this amazing ambient music in Spotify...
God Bless you for uploading this video. It is a source of immense comfort to me so I thank you
It's been a joy watching you enlarge your talent and sharing it with us. Love Grampa.
Your recording are truly relaxing and meditative I love the organ and your selection we need more of you God Bless
ESTA MUSICA RELAJA Y TE LLEVA UNA CALMA COMO NUNCA LA EXPERIMENTE
WOW Congrats on a successful undertaking. I'm proud of you. Love grampa.
You are not alone. You are forgiven from your mistakes and accepted to be yourself. You are a wonderful person and nothing bad shall occur to you. What you think is what you will see, so live the most wonderful life you possibly can. I believe in you, we believe in you, and God believes in you.
Whatever the weather, sun, storm or rain, you will make it through, even when you don't think it yourself, cause you are the only you, and nobody can change that. ❤️👁️💪
Wow oh wow!!! I felt as if I was already in heaven for one hour. I absolutely love church organ music and this was food for my soul. I forgot about all my aches and pains while listening to this amazing music. I've got a terrible cold at the moment, and I have got arm muscle pain in both my arms since last year, and I have lower back pain too. I have sleep problems because of my ill health.
So this music was pure joy to my ears. Thank you very much for uploading it and I hope you provide more. 😊
So glad to hear that this has been helpful, and yes, I plan to do more in the future. There is currently a second hour, a "Cathedral Ambience Volume II" on my channel, as well. Peace to you!
Yes, your church organ music was so uplifting and I truly enjoyed every minute of it. Really happy to hear that you have a Volume II on your channel as well. While I'm there I will also subscribe to you. Thank you.
May the good Lord heal you of all your pains. More blessings too.
Thank you so much 🙏
I like this. I will download it for offline play. Sounds so calm. Not voices. I think an alternative version of this with more bass would be amazing to feel the vibration with the headphones.
Wow, very Richard Wright of Pink Floyd
Nothing matters when this plays
I agree, there is a hint of RW in this... Another odd tie in, but, Ely Cathedral (where the pictures are from) is on the Pink Floyd Division Bell album cover.
magnifique !!! Je suis très heureux d'écouter cette musique.
Feel the peace of Christ with this music. God Bless ❤
What a wonderful hour of peace and contemplation enhanced by fantastic ethereal music on the King of instruments. Ely is a wonderful cathedral in the Fens. It is very special. Thank you.
So beautiful... maybe this is what Messiaen is playing up in Paradiso. The organ is my favorite instrument :) I hope to learn to play it some day!
Pipe organ is the King of Instruments
was visiting the cathedral in tarragona when the organist started practicing one time and i had to find a video to help me go back there thank u ❤
Божественная музыка органная сердце разрывается ❤❤❤😎 😍 🤩 😋 😊 😃
God Bless you. This is beautiful. Someday I hope I can play something as good as this.
From the first note, I was entranced. As if a soft wind caressed my senses and took me to the silence of God. It is the best record.
I wish there was sheet music for this. Id play it for my services
Had a dream once that my soul went to a cathedral high above the clouds. It was made of wood with many carvings of angels and crosses. Wisdom of the journey was revealed but I cannot remember them, but I remember the emotions. I truly believe I was in heaven albeit a short time. Praise to god , the lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit whom dwell in such a place.
Your content is painfully under appreciated. Keep up the wonderful work.
That means a lot, Dwight -- thanks! Slow and steady growth has been the trend here so far, but I definitely wish it was quicker!
As a pipe organ tuner apprentice ( for only a year) I’ve been up close to the pipes and that world is amazing. Only time will tell how long we’ll have the king of instruments. As a Hammond B3 and Leslie owner, the Skinner is absolutely a heaven on earth. What an incredible stop selection and amazing quality. Thank you so much for an outstanding treat!!👍😊❤️🙏
This is great organ music played by a master. Thank you.
Well I put a 1970 13 stop Reuter in my home. So addictive! Just for ambience and diddly around.
Skinner is a god. We just lost pipe maker Tommy Anderson who worked with Skinner. His first order was auditorium organ and his last is Dr Blackstone. Reuter studied both. Thanks for the post!!
Beautiful. Very relaxing and calming 😊
Aaron this is beautiful. Thanks for sharing
Totally blown away by the beautiful sounds this organ gives to our ears. How beautiful this is !!! It makes me forget al my worrys each day. Thank you for posting !! Greetings from Holland.
You're very welcome, I'm glad it provides some calm-ness for you 🎶🧘🏻♂️🎶
60k CONGRATS Next target 100k. I put my head set on and relax.
Aaron, thank you for this. I use it for my deep, deep time in the Lord's presence. It doesn't intrude; it just enhances. Truly a gift.
Very peacefull music. Thank u. Alleluia.
Beautiful, thank you so much ❤
❤ Qué bello. Paz profunda, para todos. A vibrar en las virtudes y notas más altas de esta música.
Beyond Beautiful ❤ Thank you 😍
Beautiful music, and I remember visiting Ely Cathedral back in the 80s.
I'm a sucker for Lauridsen's work, and this is very much his vibe- full of 7th chords and suspensions. Awesome stuff, man!
I love this already and it’s been. I was an organist earlier in this life and improvisation could become a meditation and a prayer. If anyone’s wondering, the picture is Ely Cathedral. In the top middle of the picture is the octagonal Lantern. This is the story I believe, the more usual Central tower collapsed at some point, and the cathedral put in this eight sided lantern (built 1328-1342) which lets in an incredible amount of light, as well as being very beautiful from the inside and out. I’ve also heard that. There are eight pieces of great lumber as part of this lantern, and that when it was built in Oak Forest was planted for the times in the future, when great lumber would again be needed.
Yeah love history. Since it takes a hundred years for an oak to mature.
Moc děkuji za doplnění informací. Dobrý nápad. Obdivuji varhany a lidi, kteří na ně umí hrát. Srdečný pozdrav z Prahy.
These are pure GOLD💯 I can't express my gratitude enough❤
You rise me up
Beautiful and peaceful.
I’m going to be using this so much! It’s beautiful, thank you!
Settling in. Hope there are no ads 🤞
For a music 🎶 lover ,can not stand this for a sec.😉
Thanks for telling me...
@@aaronshows; I love this music. It's beautiful and reflective of heaven. It also reflected of truth and beauty. This is just exquisite music and a breath of fresh air after hearing the noise and barbarism of what is called " music " on most A.M. radio 📻 stations.
Amazing work. Took me on a real, relaxing trip.
It's beautiful! Love organ pipe sounds..
This is very lovely, however, I am having difficulty believing that this is actually recorded in a cathedral with an actual pipe organ. Don’t get me wrong. This IS very beautiful. I was just expecting that cathedral sound.
It's not recorded in an actual cathedral, but it IS recorded on a very real pipe organ, played live by myself. Check out the video description, as it explains the process.
This is beautiful music! Thanks for uploading this! I love it! For to relax and prayer. Wauw! ❤❤❤
WOW, you should have way more Subs you have AMAZING things on your channel 😮
Very peaceful & relaxing
Thank you, John!
As usual, a great job. Thanks.
Thanks, Jon!
🧡🧡🧡
I teach gr 5-12 in MO and am an organist; this is wonderful ! keep up the awesome work.
Thank you!
🙏👑
Wow 13k, who will bid 14k. congrats.
Congrats on 10,000 views. Keep it up.
Bookmarked. Thank you, Aaron.
💖💖💖
So grand. LOVE THIS.
farout man , very very nice
Awesome, mate!
Beautiful... From where are those majestic images?
Many thanks!! It's actually all played live, by myself, at First UMC Pasadena!
Ely Cathedral in East Anglia, UK.
Beautiful Modulations!
This is exactly what I've been searching for! Thank you so much.
A great ambient set piece! (It's the difference between music that does and doesn't demand your attention. Both can be supportive to the soul.) The ability to manipulate and shape the reverb is very exciting. You done a great job here, Aaron! It's one of the attractive features in virtual pipe organ software like Hauptwerk (which I am playing with) to be able to play these cathedral instruments in their native space. Were the background images from your recent European trip (Ely Cathedral... I think)?
Thanks, Brooks!! Yep, it's Ely Cathedral, which I thought was especially beautiful among the places I visited. One of my future dreams for this channel is to build a home (well, apartment for me) Hauptwerk setup and be able to livestream and record using various instruments around the world. Just gotta have that one necessary aspect: funds! But yes, in the meantime, this was a new experiment in morphing the acoustic of the instrument I currently play. I wore headphones while I played and heard the extra reverb in real-time, which was super useful. I'll likely do more of these!
@@aaronshows Super! Don't give up on the dream. I just completed my own build. It took 9 months, but finally gave birth... I'm loving it.
15k WOW Keeping going Love Grama and Grampa
11M Keep going.
so beautiful
What a ride, 100k. Congrats.
40:56 reminds me of The Goonies😂😂😂When the girl played the organ. Can you please upload more of this beautiful music?
I love the Goonies! I didn't even realize this sounded so much like it, but that's so funny! I have 3 other videos like this one already uploaded, and will be recording some more in the early summer, so stay tuned! 🎶
Nice
This is very well done -- very nice harmonic sequences and dissonance/ resolution. It reminds me a great deal of Chuck Wild's "Liquid Mind" compositions -- which I had thought I might try to something of on the organ -- similar to what you have done.
While it's very well done, for my ears the registration is a bit on the heavy side (startng at 4:10 becomes a bit too "present") with too many forays into the 2' sound and solo lines. Overall very good for helping draw in the mind, but on the other hand a bit too intrusive. What I'm hearing is diapasons that are being held back, when what I'd rather hear is strings presented a bit more forward -- the broader-scaled strings such as the Gamba and Gemshorn with their corresponding celestes.
Thanks for the comments! Definitely too many forays into the 2' sound and solo lines for anyone's ears, and overall it's indeed a bit too intrusive. What on earth was I thinking? Lol
@@aaronshows perhaps you were just thinking a bit too much on earth -- you're getting a great registration for a romantic period piece. For Ambience v2 try thinking a bit more "heavenly" -- "celestial" = more celestes ;-)
@@aBachwardsfellow Interesting! Hmm, I have a favor to ask: would you mind recording a full hour-long video example so I can know the correct way to do these?
@@aaronshows I would love to -- if I could find an hour at the instrument to do so; I'm currently maxed out, do not have access to the instrument, and have limited recording capabilities (a Zoom Q3 -- does the job ok -- somewhat).
What I would recommend (and what I would do if I were to make a recording) would be to listen to Chuck Wild's Liquid Mind piece titled "Peace" or "Lullaby" (actually -- your piece already sounds a lot like it ...) and then "transcribe" it -- or compose something along those lines -- on the organ; staying fairly solidly on the 8' pitches - broader-scaled strings and celestes for a clear foundational pitch -- with just a light touch of 4' strings, and perhaps some light 8' flute or 4' flute lines in the manuals, and corresponding 16' strings in the pedals; sometimes maybe a 16' string in the manuals could be added for more depth ... What you have at 51:24 is nice and quiet, with a lovely flute coming in at 52:37 and continuing through to 53:53 where it starts to build. I've listened to vol II and vol III also and they're all very well done, only they make use of a wider range of registrations than may be best suited for sleep. I know it feels counter-intuitive as an artist to remain at a consistent level for so long -- especially with all the resources you have available in that instrument. But for meditation and sleep it needs to stay level and stay low.
Compositionally I think it works fairly well -- harmonically, harmonic pace, etc. If you (and I assume you may) have the piece you recorded for this written out (or was it just pure improv? ) -- in any case -- re-record it using a different registration goal more towards the sleep / meditation end -- nothing too energizing, jarring, or focused that would switch to a more active listening experience (and if you can get all the way through recording it without putting yourself to sleep ...)
You might check out "When Peace Like" on my channel as a possible example -- played on a Yamaha P125 using the synth PAD string (you'll have to forgive the jarring high (1' ?!) part at 1:08 - 1:10 - I wasn't expecting that when I played it ...). But seriously -- as far as composition I think what you have is fine. In fact I (and perhaps others as well) would be interested in obtaining a copy of it if it's available.
@@aaronshows ooh-kay -- I'm a bit slow on the upload, but now I understand you were being just a bit facetious and probably having a few LOL's with your organ buddies at this amateur attempting to offer some "serious advice" (lol! :-D ) while you have neither any interest in or need of such ... All three of your Cathedral Ambience's are fine -- they get the job done, with some really nice videography as well -- really, all very nice. There really is no need to produce a version of "Liquid Mind" on the organ since we already have Liquid Mind, and you've come close enough to it anyway - we don't really need a wanna-be Liquid Mind on a pipe organ.
Великолепно !
THAT is what I needed
Young man do I see 14k? Proud of you, keep going.
Please let there be no ads 🙏
Lubię to🙏

farout ... thank you
Thanks
Muchísimas gracias por la música 🌱🤙🏾🙏🏽 ánimo.
Very nicely done, Aaron. You inspire me to experiment with improvisation at the organ more (not my personality type! :) ).
Thank you!! Yes, definitely experiment with organ improv. Especially with slow harmonic changes like this, it can be really a safe place to try out new ideas. All the best to you, David!
The views keep growing, 21k Congrats, Grampa
