Scoring my first good Abiu was a memorable moment, worthy enough to be in my top 10 list! Every year I try to grow it in Melbourne, but suffers a slow death through winter inside a protected greenhouse. Sensitive to long cool winters, but I'm not giving up.
They're not classing Newcastle in New South Wales as being subtropical but it's not like Melbourne because we're having up to 24°C days in late May although it's like 8°C overnight,it was already winter in mid April there. I do want to grow an Abiu tree in the Newcastle area which tree is frost tolerant down to 2°C which is about as low as the temperatures get in July overnight (it sometimes gets down to 0°C at dawn). The abiu plant likes temperatures about 5°C !
Hello green friends from Daley. I had an opportunity to try Abiu in Brazil. It’s so delicious that is hard to describe. Also many others from Norte side of the same country. I’d love to have the plant, but my land is , unfortunately, unable to carry any plants, so I use huge pots for dwarf only. Thank you for that information and good luck to who try to plant it 👍
I went to Tropical fruit world last month and tried abiu it tasted nothing like caramel. Also in their fruit shop they had only half of what their website stated they have in season this time of the year. I was very disappointed and found it very misleading. They only had custard apple and avocado and abiu and dragon fruit. Says they have jack fruit santol miricle fruit, maybe 6 other fruits on top of that. They have a fruit calender that tells you what time of year different feuits are available. Make sure you call in before visiting

Go in the morning as the tour groups clean out the fruit shop. Just because it’s in season doesn’t mean it will be available either.
TBF, taste can be pretty subjective which might be why it didn't taste as good to you.
Anyone growing Yangmei, Erin??
Hmmm doesn’t taste that good 😅
