This video single handedly changed my entire swing. I cannot thank you enough. I’ve been a 12-16 handicap for almost a decade now. More recently I was probably closer to a 20. I was in a really bad place with the golf swing and on the verge of quitting. This video and drills allowed me to feel forces I’ve never recognized or felt before. Feeling those breaking forces changed everything for me. Letting the club face actually rotate. The second I felt these forces it became automatic. I was no longer thinking of every little movement. I was just picking targets and feeling the breaking forces and choosing if I wanted to draw or fade. There was another video you did recently which tied into this drill so well. You were talking about pushing a cart. It’s a short burst of energy to push it fast instead of hanging on to it and running with it(much slower). I can now sense where and when to apply the force in a swing. I honestly cannot thank you enough this just revamped my entire golf game.
I watch a lot of TH-cam golf videos and have for a long time (such videos pair nicely with my insomnia). Inexplicably, it has been rare indeed to see an explanation AND demonstration of how energy is efficiently put into the club. Bravo. Now, I’ve only to explain to my wife why I need to go solo to the UK from the US to take golf lessons from the Zen fellows.
You are by far the common sense instructor. Love your videos and they really helped me. Can you come to America with one of your golf instructional golf weeks?
For me, when I get to the top, if I allow my head to come down just a little, my legs load and I'm able to push off the ground with no issues. I've never been able to do it any other way. It's like what Rory/Jack do with their heads in the beginning of the downswing. Another great video.
Just got back from the range, and this was all I thought about..managed to get some lag, rythem and found my swing after it had gone for so long. I have this big smile on my face. You explain the basic fundermentals so well.
This video is great !! Helped me found the low point and impact position that I have been struggling the last couple of years . Love the sling shot and ground force one also . Great teacher !! Makes seemingly complex concepts easy to understand 😁😁 thanks again 👍👍👍
Lovely stuff again Marcus. I saw recently that even Mr Parfield has adopted your approach and got himself a set of pressure plates to measure and apply force at the right time. Must be doing something right if the great and good are tapping into this 😊
@@yanistsiopani2120 Crossfield’s issue was not applying vertical force at the right time. Basically his backswing was long and somewhat slow, which translated to vertical forces maximizing post-impact. By shortening his backswing slightly and adding some force/speed to it, he’s better able to apply vertical force to the release of the club through impact. I think he’s also thinking about maximizing the ‘stretch distance’ between upper and lower body in the backswing (which basically sets a squat position earlier and so vertical force can be applied earlier through the release). Honestly, for me, just making a more forceful backswing results in a lot of these types of movements on their own. The issue is practicing this way long enough to also hit functional shots.
Thanks Zen team, enjoying the recent Instruction series. Some good drills, I know you've probably explained this before but one thing I struggle with is creating this momentum and fluid motion from a set up and ball position. Yes the answer is probably come for a lesson, but got a little baby at home keeping me from making the trip from Kent right now! 🤣
Hi Marcus, what do you think about Overhand golf and the "7:15" theory ? Did you see it ? You mention to apply force "down". But Greg is more "precise", and claims force should be applied at 7:15 (the ground being 6:00).
Love the videos Marcus. Is the right arm force a feel as a result of the push off the ground or is it an actual force you’re putting on the club just after the push off the ground? Thanks.
What a enlightening video!. First time I start to feel the combined effect of the three forces with a movement purpose!. I started and exercise using a swing radar when I make the body movement whitout pushing the right arm only loosen it and then throw the club with the body and I have achieved a great increase of speed whitout arm pushing. So I’m asking If it’s really necessary for swing speed. What you think. I have been looking golf videos for some years and for me this one is the best I’ve seen. Congratulations!!
Clarification ?? 1. Isn't rotating the face open to shut difficult to time compared to keeping the face square to the plane with a throw release? 2. Do you want to maintain spine angle while down, up, and away from the target line? Just pushing up would cause early extension of the body reducing space for the arms to swing? Thanks & great teachings Marcus!!
Very true I think it's a fine point I have 170-180 ball speed never had lessons no handicap best rounds an 87 i struggle releasing the club I say I loose a fair bit of distance real good ones are over 350 where a bad 1 is 250ish currently saving for a lesson with Marcus keep up the good work lads some crazy results on here love the work 👍
@@benicurtis4807 Marcus is a truly gifted instructor, he got me on the correct path and helped me connect the dots. Another great instructor is Dr. Kwon golf on TH-cam. Brandon at Be Better Golf chanel did some amazing videos at his training center in Texas. He teaches you how to stop thinking about the swing and just allow momentum and the body's natural reaction to the correct backswing. My ball striking has never been better thanks to Marcus & Dr. Kwon.
Marcus, How can i get that same backswing speed from a normal stance? I mean, i can use two clubs swing drill and i feel the lag in the back swing but when doing a normal swing it´s hard to acumalte that back force to realease it trough the ball. Alson, when one steps forward with the lead leg its easy to generate secuence and all those things but , can i swing normally stepping forward while playing? wihtout looking like a freak? jajaja
Marcus I have been teaching for many years and greatly appreciate your skill of communication. Painting a clear picture of how to use the forces that are available for free but overlooked is a challenge. Your dedication to this challenge is admirable and I’m sure your students are appreciative.
Been trying to buy your training equipment and finding it impossible. Many viewers who had there money taken out of there banks have been waiting over 12 weeks. Can you please tell me how do I get to buy these goods and get them delivered. thanks Marcus.
The link to purchase is in the video description. zengolfmechanics.youbookappointments.co.uk/zen-grf/ Our lead time has been 4-6 weeks due to supply issues but that is reducing due. Thanks
Yea, the speed is something that baffles me. yesterday I was laying up on a par 5 with my 7 iron from the middle of the fairway (so no flyer lie)..normally I hi tit about 160-165. I flew it 180 yards with about 1 yard roll out. I did not feel I did anything different..I wish I knew what I did...a 7 iron 180 yards..WTH?
It seems many of your students (in videos) and I think you yourself swing on quite a flat plane. That is, lead arm at the top of the backswing being below the shoulder plan. Is my sense wrong? Is thus a consequence of your training methods?
No particular preference. This style of coaching allows the body to self organise so it's all down to how the player's body reacts. We allow the person to discover their own optimal mechanics.
golf clubs are so damn light - it's impossible to yank a sledgehammer around the way you could manipulate a golf club - and the only way to throw a sledgehammer at least some distance sideways in a straigt line is exactly what you should do with a golf club for maximum speed and efficiency.

Incredible brilliant info. Nobody else gives this simple instruction. More please!!
Thank you , easily one of the best explanations of the golf swing I've seen or heard in 35 years

The simplest / best demonstration of one of the ‘holy grail’ secrets of golf

Really enjoy the explanation and great drills.
Marcus. best demonstration yet on timing all 3 forces . cheers, tom
Thank you. Superb.
Marcus, this is an absolutely fabulous drill. One that I will use quite often. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Brilliant vid Marcus, possibly your best yet👍
I'm off to the range to practice the drill while the vid is fresh in my memory
I wish I could get a lesson from you I’ve always had a nice swing but have never got the distance I feel I should have correct sequence
Fantastic session Marcus...we are in NZ now but will definitely see u when we are back in the Uk
Off to the practise ground again 👍👍
Marvellous stuff Marcus - just what I needed
Keep the top tips coming

Can this drill be used for the driver also, but in an upward motion?

I take it the same principal applies to driver?
That trail arm pushing the club down towards the ground, is that a real feel in the full swing?
Would this work with the driver, 3 wood and hybrids

I keep getting the swish behind the golf ball. I need some different feels.
Awesome
Noticed some open championship branding making a subtle appearance in videos over last few weeks. You planning being back in the Swingzone?
Wouldn’t applying force down and jumping up compress the spine?
Jump up happens first so the body is unweighting from the ground. If you stay loaded into the ground that may present more of an issue.
I dream of one day taking divots

How I should get more speed; maybe, the proof is in the pudding. Lazy left side post stroke syndrome. Love the tips. 👍🤜🏻👍
