      My personal experience with ASUS:
      LAPTOP
4 years ago I bought an asus hero2 laptop, which was 80% used as a mobile low-workload station (yet with its beefy battery it could last a full work day) and then in the evening the laptop would run usually run AAA titles for like 2-3 hours at most. The machine seemed pretty sturdy, with metal lid, nice clicky keyboard and a rather loud, high speed set of fans (they kept the temperature around 80°C most of the time. The laptop was cleaned every few months and the thermal paste replaced.
The first fault occured merely a mont after purchase: one of the speakers had been damaged most likely by a short circuit. ASUS service replaced the faulty part and claimed no other parts were damaged. Then half a year later, I had the whole cooling unit replaced due to the fans making rattling noises despite being perfectly clean on the first glance: after they sent me the old cooling back with the repaired laptop i decided to try to find the issue myself and the bearings seemed worn-off.
Almost 1,5 year after the purchase laptop started ocasionally showing some weird traits of malfunctioning power unit on the motherboard. I managed to register some strange behaviors when it came to power stability (sudden losses of readouts from battery, voltage fluctuations while under load, etc). I wrapped it all into a nice and slick summary with all the issues that i found and sent it back to ASUS for repairs. To my surprise, they claimed the laptop does not show anything suspicious and that their rigorous tests did not confirm any of my claims. Then the warranty came to an end and no even two months later the laptop went down with a bang (power unit on the motherboard basically just gave up, taking the vital parts with it and rendering the laptop unrepairable).
      MOUSE
Yet another purchase from ASUS: a wireless mouse Gladius2 appears to be not much better. So far I got 2 free replacements, since the mouse keeps breaking down like 2/3rds into its warranty. Not to mention that after a year of everyday use both of these mouses had issues like non-precise scrolling wheel, which would sometimes trigger on its own, or rubber elements on the sides that are impossible to clean, since they literally behave like a modelling clay whenever I try to gently rub the buildup of dirt off them. At this point I'm taking bets with my friends, how long will the current mouse last and nobody gives it longer than the warranty period.
      SUMMARY
To conclude, I don't find ASUS a reliable brand and even though they products may show some good performance, for the people who really are keen on getting themselves one of these machines I strongly recommend expanding the warranty period and/or getting an appropriate insurance in case of any off-warranty faults.
Also remember to carefully document any issues you face, including photos of damaged parts, logs of issues and service documentation whenever possible.

RTX 2050 laptop version is a really weird product. Normally I expect to see manufactuer rebranding last gen chip as a newer gen, but they did the opposite with this one. It's a 3050 laptop that cut down tensor core and run at lower clock. It's like marketing team realised after they released 30 series that they don't have any "last gen at lower price" for X050 teir. (since they "split the gen" to 1650 which has no DLSS)

I really like that you do videos about the cheaper end of the market. We all wish we could buy the high end, but many of us just can't. Personally, I'm ok with some shortcomings if I didn't pay all that much. Right now, I'm playing on an old second-hand laptop. It has a couple of issues like a broken subwoofer, backlight bleed, and a couple of keys not working (but that is my own fault - liquid spill). However, I'm fine with it, because I paid way less for it than new price.

So I have a 2023 A17 TUF with a Ryzen 7940HS and a RTX 4070. It's a good laptop. When I was researching upgrading it, I came across this gen of laptops and how upgradable they are. Not only do you have a second NVME SSD slot, but you also have room for a SATA drive, but you do need that connector to install it. But, if you want a bigger battery, the screws to install the HDD/SSD also line up with the bigger battery so if you want to improve the battery, that's something you can do as well.

I recently bought the ASUS TUF F15 2022 model with the i5 12500H and RTX 3050 (95watts) for 930ish Dollars. The usp for me was its 90whr battery, lasts almost 8-9 hours in normal usage like TH-cam or surfing on the web and considering I am a student, it really helps me in my studies. About the gaming, I'd say its pretty good for its price. I can play almost all the games at high graphics preset and get decent playable framerates (sometimes even above 60fps thanks to FSR and DLSS), excluding some games like cyberpunk and The Last of Us etc. I was considering HP Victus with similar specs but happened to find this great deal. The 4gb vram is sure a limiting factor if you want to do 3d modelling and rendering stuff. Video editing goes great, multiple 4k video layers and the timeline doesn't lag but the screen quality doesn't let you do color correction stuff. Also mine came with Microsoft Office 2021 preincluded. Overall I'd say this is a great deal for a sub 1000$ gaming laptop. Decent gaming performance, with sufficiently good battery life and minialistic gaming looks. If you happen to find this specific deal for under 1000$ , I'll say definitely go for it.

Honestly, I think it's cool that these things exist in 2023 for budget gaming. I just moved on from a 1070 laptop this week (to an S17; that review years ago just stuck with me), and it did get me wondering what 20-series laptops (well, actual ones) might've been like these days. This isn't quite that, but it's still really intresting to see what's out there on the low end.

They all work on THIS PC. the power-price ratio for an external screen is unbeatable on sale. One of my friends had the 3060 6GB version for €799 with French Days, special summer sales in France... I got the Asus Tuf A15 with the ryzen 7 7735hs and the Rtx 4060 for around $1200 last week and I’ve gotta say it runs like a beast.
sure the cpu isn’t zen 4 but it’s still fast enough for my needs and sips battery compared to the intel counterpart (It is 8 cores and 16 threads).
It’s also relatively quiet for a gaming laptop and the fans have no coilwhine.
The screen isn’t super bright but is bright enough for indoor use overall wasn’t too bad either for normal gaming and content consuption. (idk if it’s different but the modle I got has 100% srgb coverage)
Temps are also reasonable cpu hit like 90 C on silent mode but it was dead quiet.
On Turbo mode the fans were a bit cranked but still reasonable and the cpu hit max like 82 to 85 C
Gpu was always around like 55 to 60 C
Overall great machine for gaming/everyday use
Although if I have any gripes the speakers are not really great or loud for that matter but het for the price I’ll take it.

You CAN run it but you'll be shortening the life of your pc by years very fast and doing irreversible damage, stopping you from ever being able to play it or similar games ever again and even effecting way less intensive game permanently.

Dont buy that piece of garbage laptop. It will work for around a year but then it will develop sudden problems with motherboard. This has happened to plenty of customers. Asus will NOT give you a free fix for motherboard replacement even if your warranty is still valid. They will accuse you of "mishandling" the device and therefore void warranty and charge you the total price for replacement and fix.
This has happened to me recently. One day I was working on the laptop, then powered the laptop off. No updates, nothing special. Next day I wake up and try to turn the laptop on and then its dead. What a garbage piece of hardware. Buy a Nokia phone or something, thousandfolds more reliable than these taiwanese GarbageCollectors.

for 50 bucks get a 3 year warrant of the store you bought it from and live in peace... Also i think this is just shitty and paid anti asus propaganda.. ive seem comments like these everywhere, and they all say the exact same thing.. Im an Asus owner, my current runs perfectly for years now, not a single issue ever.. had 2 before this one too, also ran perfectly for years..

That 3050 might be worth it if it sports 12'th gen intel as well. 10/11'th gen is much worse and eats into battery life. If they play on locked 30fps, 12'th gen might use half of the power.
It would be less heat and longer battery life, if that is worth your $20.

Important sobering reminder every time it comes up, but DLSS and FSR are only available on a combined something like 400 or 500 games. This is compared to the thousands upon thousands that do not currently. It may be a default de facto future feature, but for a significant amount of the PC back catalog, it's inconsequential.

i bought this laptop back in 2022 with the gtx 1650 for around £600. it was a tossup between this and the acer nitro but decided on the asus and im vry glad I did this laptop is fantastic for the price and i did upgrade the ram to 16bg for £30 and damn that boosted performance by about 50%. i play most of my games on console so I use this laptop mainly for older games or arcade. got it hooked up to a 1440p monitor and it handles that with barely noticeable fps drops in games. i needed a laptop which could play most games well and this Asus delivered! would recommend if you can get for less than i paid but not any more. also do your own upgrades ie ram/ssd as you'll save a huge chunk.

I feel like 700$-1000$ gaming laptops are an e-waste.
If you consider the processer, even a 10th gen processor is good and no need to shell money for the latest 13th gen processor.
All the 1650, 2050, 3050 and 4050 from nvidia are completely confusing and the performance gain between these are very minimal.
Best option is to buy a second hand 1660ti, 2060, 2070 or 3060 laptop.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  ปีที่แล้ว +3

1660 Ti doesn't cut it these days IMO, hard to justify a no DLSS option with how common that is these days.

      There's literally a 6800h + 3070ti 150w nitro 5 for $970 brand new, with a QHD 165hz panel.
Used 3060 laptops are probably the way to go. Or used 2070 ones due to more vram. However, they should be no more than $500 to $600.

500$ for an rtx based laptop is insane, even with 4gb of VRAM. Most games that want more VRAM for reasonable settings support DLSS and FSR, which fixes that.
