I absolutely LOVED her Gentleman Jack. For lesbian women Anne Lister's story ensconces a pivotal moment of our herstory, and had already been portrayed by the superb talent of Maxine Peake. Suranne Jones added her own exquisite take on the indomitable, fierce nature of a woman who not only left behind a legacy that would become a beacon for us - and for which we owe a huge debt of gratitude - but also shone a light on the intelligence, determination and sheer business acumen of Anne Lister. Together with Lady Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby - the Ladies of Llangollen - she wrote perhaps the first chapter of that herstory.
