- Many people in the highlands of Papua New Guinea believe that witches exist and often blame witches when bad things happen. Many women are attacked and even murdered as a consequence. We talk to some women who survived such assaults. A few lone voices are trying to change things. We meet a woman who confronts men who attack women.
If someone is really a witch, why doesn't she use her powers to overpower them? Its just a nasty way of picking on poor weak and vulnerable women.
This is wrong. But the reason why this happens is because witchcraft and even canabalism is still active in some parts here.
Who do you talk about? A nasty brain thinks that all lies in the physical. Anyway, I never read any comment here calling the target a Witch but the people targeting others are instead the Witches damned by the blood of Jesus Yeshua that is against all Evil Spirits and their anointed people.

Apollo23 Just a couple of months ago a woman was fired from her teaching job in, I want to say Kansas but I read this awhile ago, because she was forcing a left handed boy to write with his right hand because the left hand is of the devil. I would like to say this is an aberration but as ultra conservative fundamentalism spreads I've noticed things like this are becoming very common. Take the most benign science subject and it's automatically ridiculed and some bizarre conspiracy idea replaces it (not theory because that would leave it open for debate and they won't allow debate). I'm concerned for our society.

@BomaigiWii it's sad that up in the Highlands region your socery is of no effect but the accusations are something else. Unlike the Islands, Southern and parts of Momase regions were our socery is way powerful. But you do not hear much of this killings of socery accusations. I just don't know how to describe this situation up in the Highlands region.

Where i am from in vanuatu many people especially from the outer islands practice blackmagic, we believe in it very much and is part of our culture for ritual reasons. But over the years people used it to kill people just out of jealousy. We locals call it 'posen' or 'nakaimas', many people who practice it use animals such as owls (oknaet), dogs and cats, they take their forms and use it to travel around at night or to kill people they envy. This witchcraft is very true not only in papua New guinea but also in vanuatu and Solomon islands, but in vanuatu both males and females use it but mostly males.
the stories in this video is from the cental highlands area in png. there isnt any sorcery up there just paranoid communities accusing innocent women and then torturing them. vanuatu shares more cultural similarities with east new britain province of png. that province as well as milne bay province practices blackmagic (for rituals as well) the most in png.

Being able to speak English isn't a measure of Education. One's ability to learn a language does not translate into literacy
I wish I could show this video to all those foolish people who romanticize what they see as the "pure" past before modern civilization reached isolated parts of the world. The horrors of what people can do to each other are at least somewhat mitigated by modern sensibilities and justice, even if it brings its own set of problems.

Ok everyone i figured it out. My crazy tail went to wikipedia for some research, now I know why they look familiar. Papua new guinea is by Australia..They resemble the aboriginal folks in Australia. The new guinea folks features are softer.
Papua New Guineans and our Aussie counterparts arrived in this region around the same time so yeah, I guess there will be a resemblance. Look up Denisovans.
