    I just started running this week. Yesterday was my first 5k ever, finished at 42:16. I ran it again today and got 39:30. Hopefully I keep progressing at this rate.

      @@AlejandroTaylorEscribano I have played basketball and always been active, but it probably took me a year of training to go from 21m30s to sub 20mins. Just keep running as much as you can. My training is basically 1 long run a week, hill sprints, easy runs which are important as well, and interval runs at the goal pace. Good luck and just keep running you will get better for sure

      Hello. Im trying to build my body before get back into running. If still close to 20 minutes 5k how long can u hop on one foot? My brother who was a runner said stand on one leg and cycle ur leg as fast as possible keeping balance. I flop every where so I want to have a bit more control with that, and since calf tightness holds me back do the hoping till can meet some bench mark. Thank you.

      Awesome time for your age, I'm 37 and trying to get to sub-20min by the end of the year (hopefully by my 38th birthday on Sept 23rd, which is about 6 months away). I just ran a 21:42 after tunning a 23:35 3 months prior.
      Did you stick with running, and what time are you at now?

      thats how i started. i tried to always achieve at least what i did the last time. increase length and speed seperately. but i myself focussed on "the effort" as my goal. being exhausted was a goal. about 3 years later, im running 10k 5 times a week as my normal sport routine.

      Dathan was fast as shit in high school, I saw him twice, one was at the state CC meet where he ran a record at the time of 14:10. I think it’s been broken since, but it was national high school record for cross country. I think he broke 14 in track in the 5000 in high school too, he was a prodigy.

    What you need to do to train ?? Start off with quarter mile repeats=6 to 10 @ race pace with quarter recovery in between. Do 1 a week for 3 weeks ,then go to mile repeats= do 3 each @5k pace with quarter mile recovery in between. Of course with a mile warm up to start off and a mile recovery after completion. After the 3 mile repeats you should measure your progress with a race. Congrats!

      You can definitely do it! I struggled for so many years to do a sub-30min 5K. I finally did it in 2015 with a time of 25:51. I was very excited and ever since that day, I can always comfortably run a 5K under 30-min. I honestly don't know specially what changed. I know I was more consistent with running 3 times a week (Sun, Tues, Thur). So I think that consistent level of running is what did it for me. And ..... the training I did did not involve any serious speed works or internals.

      Anyway the only competitor of yourself is your determination. Last years , my best of the best 5k was 24min but after pushing myself and running 2-3 times a week , i can do a 5k around 21-22min , keep pushing yourself but dont care if you can beat your time or not . take pleasure trying to beat it :)

    • @maggie0285
      @maggie0285 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll get there. Be consistent and run everyday. Race on the weekends. I'm getting back in shape. I ran 30:34 today. My mile splits are improving. I think you have to run under 9:40/mile to get there. Don't get caught up beating your time each race. Enjoy the racing aspect of it because you can't get faster each time because the courses are different.

      Get more miles in over time on your long, endurance run. Developing your aerobic capacity over time. Make sure you have a day off the day after your endurance day where all you are focusing on is recovery work.
      One interval session, at least one tempo session and a fartlek session will be necessary additions to be developing all the necessary adaptations in VO2 max, lactic threshold, speed strength and aerobic capacity. All the while remembering that the 5k is an endurance race and aerobic capacity is the priority out of all these attributes, but also remembering not to neglect the other attributes.
      A day in the middle of the training week programmed in as a light day where you cross train using low impact alternatives would be a great addition as well. Just removing the stress on the joints for a day while still making some gains is massive.
      If you are particularly week then doing things like GHRs, back raises and high step ups are a great addition as well as weighted hill sprints in the off season. However I recommend only walking down the hill to avoid unnecessary stress on the knees.

      Leon Beale miles. Miles. Miles. Train year round taking maybe two 1 week breaks. 1 after track 1 after cross country season. Throw in core work and push-ups. I ran a PR of 18:02 freshman year. 17:24 sophmore. 16:30 Jr and 15:55 Sr all on the state course. My only secret was consistency over the summer break I logged 300-600 miles and similar between cross country and track. Miles help the body adapt. Anyways good luck. Most importantly never give up.

      TL:DR just search for a 5km training program with the time you want to achieve.
      I am not a coach or a professional runner but heres my advice i hope it might be useful. Don’t only run 5kms to train have some training days where you‘re going on longer runs like 8km or 10km. Also do shorter distance runs at a faster pace, if you know the time you want to finish the 5km (example 20mins). Practice running 1km at a 4:00min/km pace and do intervals of 1km x 5 with 1-2minute rest in between. slowly increasing the distance and decreasing the amount of intervals each week till your at 5km. Example (first week 1km x 5) (fourth week 2km x 3)(eighth week 3km x 2) and ect. Or even do what they mentioned in the video and do strides, it might also help to cross train and do some resistance training for strength or some cycling or some hill runs. Sorry if this is not helpful idk your situation and how you‘re already training but if it was me thats how i would train. Have a nice day :D also heres a link to find out what pace you have to be running to finish the race at the time you want www.coolrunning.com/engine/4/4_1/96.shtml

      @@dogecoinnostalgia4026 I do believe my comment was directed at the video production rather than questioning the athlete's times or credibility - a little clip of him running might have been good

    "Racing doesn't get any easier"...man, ain't that the truth. You still have to try hard, you just run faster while doing it.

    So, Strides = Fartleks?

    • @KjellM100
      @KjellM100 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not exactly, Fartleks is more like playing with your environment. For example choose a landmark (Trees, Cars) and set a goal for your self to go faster from that tree to another. Or sprint uphill when you encounter a bridge, etc.

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fartlek = speed play. Running faster and slower in interval style running. Strides are shorter runs focused more around stride length.

      Corrupted Assassin Don't go out too hard, stay comfortable on the first 300, then start to push the pace. You don't want to go all out at the start, you will lose pace on the last couple laps, Goodluck.

    Okay, maybe for a beginner these may be good but for a intermediate to experienced runner this is nothing "new" to run your fastest 5k. I thought you guys would go more in depth but you only stayed at the surface.

    To run your fastest 5k, you have to be extremely skinny. Dathan is naturally going to run a 5k in under 13 minutes. No surprise there.
