- Visit Onshape.pro/Pl... , and start building a table of your own! In my quest for the table of the future, I designed and build a Tron-inspired dining room table, filled with interactive neon. You can control the plasma with a knob, or, your bare hands. It was a journey that pushed me to my limits, and lead to the most unique thing i've ever built. Thank you to Mehdi @ElectroBOOM for his assistance, and to Onshape for teaching me how to 3D model!

TH-cam is being glitchy! This video is shot in 4K, make sure your settings are set to that. Otherwise, It seems to play in 480p...
Beautiful work man! If I can make one suggestion. You might want to stick a cheap 3s BMS board on the LiPo so that you don't accidentally over discharge and destroy it. It would also add a layer of protection should something go wrong, like the FET failing short circuit. Things could get really spicy really fast with a beefy LiPo like that!

The table is super cool! I wonder if you hold a small neon lamp in your hand put it close to the tables neon tube, will the small neon lamp light up?

What would happen if you put your phone on the table? Would it damage anything inside of your phone?
You could make some coasters with a coil and different colored neon lights. Do a pour with everything inside and everyone can find their drink by color!
I wonder if it would charge the the battery in your cell phone if you sat it there like a wireless charger for a phone

I was actually working almost every day (7 days a week) since my last video. I never took a real break!
one can't understand the feeling and love a person can have with a thing they made on their own, only if you do it yourself you'll get it, and sure sometimes it can end up being more expensive than just buying but as someone who also made a few things i can assure you that you won't love it as much as you'll love your DIYs
That’s the truth right there! It’s why I’ve always built things as opposed to buy them. Because when you put a lot of love and effort into something, you tend to learn a lot in the process in the end you end up smarter and more knowledgeable than somebody who would’ve just bought the product.

As a sign artist and master sign electrician who has delt with alot of neon, Your aplication of what makes neon beautiful and unique as opposed to other more modern light sources is refreshing, outstanding job and gives me some unique ideas for custom signs.

@@PlasmaChannel Yeah I'd love to see it in person one day! Let's plan for the big boy later this year when I know more about driving the toroid. I'm hoping I'll develop a way to use a cheaper gas to make a toroid with a more developed driver so the project doesn't cost us thousands haha.
That was a great project. Errors and mistakes but thats a part of the whole thing. A really good handmade table

I appreciate it. Yeah and even after all the reading and learning.....the pour still wasn't perfect. You can see the different layers of resin, if you look close enough. That's...not supposed to be a thing.

The capacitive coupling experimentation was my favorite part. Your design process is incredibly well-produced and easy to follow. Not to mention, the idea of several side lengths on one resin block was genius! Just discovered the channel and I'm hooked.

Yeah when I saw the underside...I really did freeze. I thought, "is it too late for me to use this side??" It was...indeed...to late for me to use the bottom. The wood looked cooler on the top though!
I’ve watch a few river table videos and this is probably the most informative one I’ve watched. You did a bunch of things I want to do with my own. (River battle scene!) came for the plasma, stayed for the table.

What I admire the most is the fact that you used real neon tube.
Not tacky, overrated, boring LED...
Anyone can slap some LED's together. They've become so mainstream that the traditional incandescent lamp is more visually pleasing.
But good work on this effort. It's amazing and really looks good. A work of art.

@@PlasmaChannel how is the heat from the neon encased in the resin? Wonder if it the heat will affect the resin or life of the neon tubes?

If you do this kind of messy work again I advise getting a shopvac, even if it is a small shopvac. It helps quite a lot with cleanup with planing or any other type of shaving or dust making processes

I can't even imagine the cleanup you had to do to your place after sanding inside.
When I work with wood I'm usually in a garage or outside, yet still end up with dust covering everything and in the most random and unimaginable places where you wouldn't even think
Yeah, the clean up was......apocalyptic. Not joking about it being the mess of generations. The dust was everywhere. Everywhere. On the leaves of ever plant (I had to wipe down hundreds of leaves), on every floorboard, windowsill, curtain, ktichen utensil, picture frame, tool, furniture.......I have swept 10 times...and still have not found it all.

This is the right use for an epoxy pour table
That mill shot fascinates me. Is that like a big cutter bit like router they are running across, or a circular saw type thing turned on its side?
Either way, had no idea they made tools like that or that big, would definitely make leveling a board a lot quicker, lol
Yeah, a lot of lumber mills will have what is called a "router sled", except their was HUGE.

Channeling your inner Star Trek by building a table which explodes when your shields are hit.
Hand-planing can be really enjoyable but you need the right tool for the job, for that size of a project a #5 or 6 stanley or really any bench plane would have been my choice rather than the tiny block plane you had. With a properly sharpened iron, it would do a lot better job at giving you a truly flat surface than the power plane but would definitely still take some elbow grease ;) . Great job though, I love resin river tables and neon, I may be trying one of these in the future.

Honestly, your project looks very cool. I don't mean to be a "critic", however I wonder what it would look like with a very close proximally to lightning actually "arcing" through a table or even better a wall hanging background would look like. Kind of like sitting in a chair/thrown and the spectators get to see lightning arcing when you are on the thrown but not while it is empty. I know that sound a bit on the Nerdy side, but It would still look awesome.

Heyo, sick project. If you were to do this again, maybe consider threaded inserts and c channels, it makes your end product a lot more durable and easy to take apart :)

I think I saw a missed opportunity... That messy clean up involved particles that stick because of static electricity. It seems like Plasma Channel should have a way to either use that charge to clean or at least neutralize it.
