    I think if you're going to make another table like this again, instead of putting magnetic mixers into it, you should try connecting the 2 holes at the edges of the table with a small hose and have a pump in the middle of the hose.
    That way the water would be pushed from one end of the table to the other side, and it would make all of the liquid in the table flow, instead of having 2 aggressive vortexes in the middle of the table that leaves the majority of the liquid at the edges untouched. It would also be much quieter, as it sounded like those mixers were quite loud. the only down side is that you would have to have the holes on the underside of the table, so they would need to be water tight, but that's not hard to do since you would just need to cut in some threads using a tap and screw in the proper sized fittings
    If you like that idea I would suggest looking up PC water cooling equipment, as it is usually very small, but can produce some good velocity for the liquid.

    • @nicoschroeder5379
      @nicoschroeder5379 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Magnetic mnixers seems fine, but they are tooo aggressive. Slow them down, put 2 more in for a more even movement and its fine. But the soundissue is annoying if you can hear it somehow. Maybe they are way quieter if you could turn down the rpm. And it still needs to be on legs of some kind. Maybe its possible to build a somewhat sound absorbing box around the whole underside.
      A thing like this has to be absolutely quiet while usage or its useless.

    • @NerdOfAllTrade5
      @NerdOfAllTrade5 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@nicoschroeder5379 they don't have to be loud, it's more about the surface of the mixer pill and the surface of the thing it's spinning on. I've used mixers in a lab that were nearly completely silent.

      john maleki just did this for a live fish table , was pants , may work better in an enclosed table ofc.

    • @sorayaya3080
      @sorayaya3080 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      But then isn't the pump what's going to be making nose?
      You'd also need a pump that wouldn't get clogged up or damaged by the dye passing through it

    • @cocoxcocoa
      @cocoxcocoa 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @sorayaya3080 a small pump would make a much quieter, and more pleasant noise than that spinning magnet.
      And lots of PC water cooling builds have a lot of special dies and additives in them. While it might reduce the life span of the pump, it should be fine for a long time.

    the magnetic stir bar was a genius idea!
    yeah, the movement issue can be dealt with in a couple ways. I'd make little propeller-shaped additions to the magnetic stir bar, either encasing it in resin/3D printed propeller, or making my own.
    the only other thing is probably using a very bright backlight and pigments that don't mix, (like using both oil based and water based liquids together), but that has a chance of ruining the table altogether. I was thinking like some sort of dark/black oil and then the orange pigmented water would do nicely, if you found something that wouldn't stick/paint the inside of the resin after a few hours.

  • @danieldashevsky2354
    @danieldashevsky2354 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

    What a fantastic build! I'm excited to hear that you want to scale it up and can't wait to see those result. A trick I learned from a friend studying the physics of fluid flow is that the best way to make rheoscopic fluid is to mix cheap shaving cream and water together. The little guanine crystals stay suspended way better than mica powder and make some very high contrast swirls. Then you can dye it whatever color you want. I also wonder if longer magnetic stir bars might help form larger vortex patterns.
    Thanks for making this and sharing the process with us all!

    The process of your creativity in this table was mesmerizing. Watching the table work at the end made me think of watching the vortex on the weather map when we have a hurricane or tropical storm coming in 😅 I've never used Wisebond before, but I've only made small projects with molds so far. I'd have to say the most satisfying sound is the crack of the molding release, when you know it's going to be a satisfactory piece. Gorgeous table and I love the commentary you add. Keep creating Donkey! 💕

    This is really awesome.
    I thought at first you were using liquid from computer water cooling, which does come in versions like this, and has biocide in it so it doesn't get any growth.
    Computer water cooling also has screw in plugs that would work better than cork or plastic plugs, and could be put in on the bottom side to remain hidden.
    You could also get a flowing river by having a computer water cooling reservoir and pump on the underside, tubing that would have one hole being an input, the other an output, and basically create a loop. PC water cooling pumps can be very quiet, such as the D5 pumps, and some have manual adjustments for flow rates.
    I think using computer water cooling parts could really lead to something that has more of a river flow, and a cleaner top.

    • @ScytheNoire

      @@screamingdonkeywoodwork I think that's why most of the PC coolant manufacturers stopped using it. Even with nano mica particles, they still eventually start clogging the pumps. Still lots of DIY guys making their own, but appears the companies who used to make it have stopped.

    Blacktail is the goat because of his buttery smooth documentary style audio....but this project is awesome. One could do so much with various dyes. I saw someone mention glow in the dark pigment, and it's usually over-rated...maybe if one introduced a liquid flow over a uv led and can see a glowing trail or something. There is potential there but glow in the dark pigments are more impressive in the imagination than in reality. UV reactive pigments(glow under a blacklight and often Blue LED's) are much the same way, because as they mix with the resin they lose a lot of vibrancy.
    Aaanyways. Great to see various channels lend a cameo appearance on a smaller channel.

    This is so awesome! We bought my son one of those mixing things to use in science experiments, but never would have thought to use it like this. This. Is. Incredible!!!! Also, I've used epoxy in small... very small projects but just learned about Wisebond from this video. I am going to check them out now!

    Beautiful table, very ingenious approach, great tenacity and conviction to overcome some setbacks. Congratulations!!! Now, for a waterfall table with a real waterfall!!!! Bumps, lumps, logs and rocks on the inside bottom pour to provide the agitation along the river and pumps to draw the water back to the top. Maybe for the colors a dark blue with the pearl pigment and maybe some gold flakes. I think you have started a whole movement (pun intended). PLEASE continue the great work. I just became a subscriber.

    Great job! Man that is a crazy effect. I'm nowhere near ready to try my hand at epoxy tables, but I'll keep this idea in the back of my head.

    What a great table. The movement really separates it from all the other river tables.
    Here's an idea for your next vortex table. If you cut channels in the underside of the wood to allow the liquid to flow underneath when the motors are turned on. I think the channels would only need to be maybe a quarter to a half inch deep and an inch or so wide to get some flow through them. I think it would be interesting to get the currents flowing throughout the table so you didn't have dead spots. Or as an alternative, you could just raise the wood up a quarter inch or so.
    Another idea just popped into my head as I was typing about the channels. You could use one of those little fountain pumps to create an upwelling effect for a different look. Drill and tap from the bottom for a hose barb inlet and outlet. Anyway, just food for thought.

      I'm responding to this old post because I have a sudden compulsion to clear all the "I haven't responded." If your comment was generally supportive: Thanks for watching I really appreciate it. If it was insightful: I'll definitely give that some thought before I do it again. Negative: traumatic brain injury or just born stupid?
