I frist saw this movie back in the 60's growing up. It was a time when you could sit with all the family and enjoy quality T.V. I miss those times and every so, often. I just can't help and watch this wonderful old friend of a movie. For those of us who grew up watching this wonderful actors who are no longer with us. Its like losing family members. My dad served in Korea as a peacekeeper and then as a provost marshal clerk when they found out he could type 70 words a minute. And yes, they laughed like little girls😁

This is unbelievable. Second time this week my device has read my mind and offered up a selection I was thinking about. In this case Mr. Roberts appeared on the scroll but it reminded me I had not seen Ensign Pulver in many years. Crazy. Between this movie and the tailoring scene from the Three Stooges it was all I could do not to "ride" my siblings on the steam press in our family dry cleaners.
Hilarious! I served on USCG Cutter Basswood stationed in Guam 1972. We visited many primitive Islands . So this movie did bring back some good memories. Thanks for this fun movie. 😂

The first time I saw 'Ensign Pulver' was on TV around 1965 or in 1966 when I was 9/10 years old, and a couple of times in the later part of the 1960s. It has been maybe 40 or 50 years back when it was the last time I watched it on TV. Thank you Brad Garoon for uploading this classic film on TH-cam! Brought back some of my fond memories when I was a kid during the 1960s.
I think this was Burl Ives best performance ever. Next to Frosty the Snow Man, of course. He showed a range here that was amazing. The rest of the cast were great as well, but Ives created the mood.
glad i never got stuck on a ship like this. we did one boring tour, making circles in the Arabian Sea and suppling the task force with fuel, food and ammo, although i dont know what the ammo was used for. was no training going on nor bombing runs. did have a Capt. once who volunteered us for everything, did get us out of the war FOR a little while.

I find this film quite sad. The captain had a terrible childhood, his mother and himself being humiliated by those who had more money and power so he was determined to not to be walked on again.

Captain 'Bligh' exposed to the U.S. Navy and Ensign Pulver... Great comedy but the 'natives' was to much Hollywood for me. The nurses plane crash was also to much Hollywood'sk. Any Navy ship picking up survivor's would look extra careful on all the islands...
Why the obsession with getting booze. Every navy that I know of had a rum ration, a wine ration of something similar in World War 2. Didn't the American navy issue drinks to sailors?

Enjoyable enough, (saw it 55+ years ago!), but Robert Walker could have been better. My favourite 'Navy' comedy is Operation Petticoat.
For comedy, how about Down Periscope? Away All Boats. Not a comedy but close to reality.

Only in the 60s could you make a comedy with a sailor who's 18 month old daughter drowned, and he's acting like he's going on his honeymoon.
