I've actually grown to really enjoy corporate work. It's good money, its quality work. It's not that flashy but the clients are much more appreciative of your work vs. commercial clients.

Tip: Carry an XLR Y-splitter cable, plug it to the podium mic. You'll then have a way to connect that cable into a wireless tx unit. Clean! But I like your ability to problemsolve with the lav. I once lav'ed up a plant near a speaker I needed audio from for a live broadcast. Worked a treat!

David, please check your AF settings, the shot at 5.50 clearly shows the background bulging. Check out Philip Blooms awesome Af video to see how to fix this (Face only AF: sens 1, speed 1)
Yes, that’s a great video! Hmm I don’t see any bulging on my end. Those are moving tree branches in the wind, perhaps the leaves are giving off the illusion. Breathing compensation is on as well so that will mitigate distractions. I can check again but I don’t see anything immediately.

I've done the same thing with lavs and podium mics. And I like working corporate shoots like that. Easy work, easy to plan, and not much hassle and they pay well. You do have to be flexible and adaptable, as well as be a good problem solver.
Yeah the gear is pretty standard so it the problem solving that separates you from other guys
I do the Lab wrap all the time! Works like a charm.

Shot a mini doc just using the Sony FX6. and Tamron 35-150...love that lens for video and photo, yeah, please rehouse it in manual cine Tamron. That lens stays on withr my FX6 A7IV or FX3

There was a 20 minute section of handheld broll of the students but I didn’t film that. Yeah they are really nice gigs.

I will do half days every now and then. Especially if I could use another client in the roster but of course would prefer full day rates.

Hey David. I saw you using a 24-70 and i was wondering if could pose a question to your community. I have a budget setup that i use for photography and videos with a canon m50ii, viltrox speed booster and a tamron 24-70. Sometimes in the middle of using, the len starts to shake internally. I havent seen anything online with any solution or guidance to solve it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
If the lens has image stabilization, the motors might be failing.

Do you find having only one camera restricting? I’m frequently using at least two cameras on most corporate shoots as it helps with editing.
Maybe I need to restructure my business as I would love to just use one! 😅
Loving the videos
I stopped offering editing services last year. It actually increased my income. All of my jobs are shoot and hand over raw footage now.
I will use two cameras when the client asks for it. I just rent another one. Usually an a7s3.
@@davidmorefield Sounds like good advice. Thats something I want to push for next year is to stop doing editing and handing it over to someone else/ doing more owner operator work.
The editing takes up to much time compared to what I get paid for shooting video like yourself.
@@98JamesNixon it’s a tough path to say no to clients who want to give you money but that’s what I did and eventually I was able to change my clientele. A couple of times I contracted the editing and still acted as the production company. That’s better but still not my favorite. And once I passed on the entire project and handed it off to a buddy who ran a production company. He in turn, accepted it and graciously hired me back in as the DP.
It’s great when networking works out like that.
Just wondering - you showed the amaran 200 without the cone "reflector" and you didn't use the softbox because you needed the output. The reflectors actually boost the output because they redirect more light rays to the same location. Is there a reason you didn't use the "reflector"? By the way, thanks again for your videos! Great content!

I hate it when that happens! And somehow I had a feeling that was the case. I'm always paranoid that I won't have the gear I need. But anytime that happens, I figure out a way to get it done without!

Did you get to use the Rode Wireless Pro microphone?
Yes, I used it 3 weeks ago. They were great and I absolutely love how small they are. I could leave them on the cam at all times.
@@davidmorefield It also got a great feature where it will auto level your audio so you never clip when recording in loud places. Used it alot in noisy/loud places and my subjects voice was always heard clearly.

Curious to know what you don’t like about the 28-135 F4?
I’d love it to be a tad bit wider, at least 24mm, with a consistant 2.8 aperture. I’d also like to be able to manually zoom with the ring and not have the manual focus reset when you switch it out of AF.

@@bwest6275 I don’t totally agree. Canon managed to do a 24-105 2.8 with servo and IS in a size smaller than a 70-200. I’ll gladly pay the price they are asking for that convenience. I just want to see Sonys version.
@@davidmorefieldthat’s true. Although I don’t believe the Canon is designed for cinema use, such as being parfocal, nor have power functions and integrated lens gears. Also would not have controlled breathing if I recall. But indeed, would be interesting to see what Sony can do for a Cine zoom in e-mount. The price would probably be higher than the eye-watering cost of the or 16-35mm t3.1 which makes the 28-135 an absolute bargain in comparison. I do have the 28-135 for my FX6 and it’s quite handy for an all in one lens.
@@bwest6275 from the videos I’ve seen, the canon is electronically parfocal, as in the af motors assist it. Yeah somehow they managed to put in servo motors just like Sonys power zoom series. And you can probably just add a gear to it.
It seems like such a modern solution and I hope Sony will follow suit. Sony actually sent me an email servo after the canon lens released and it was asking all about their current zoom. Like, did they have enough reach, are they bright enough, do I wish for more servo functions. So I really hope they take that info and give something new.
