PLEASE don't ever get burnt out with producing your channel! It is SO much more than visual entertainment. In these crazy, anxious times we're living in, watching your videos is incredibly relaxing and therapeutic. I swear my blood pressure drops 10 points while meditating in your work. Thankyou 🙏
You are the man I have nothing but respect for your craft. I just got 2 antique bikes today. 2 seater back from the 50”s and a cruiser bike from the 70’s both are rusty. I never restored bikes before. You just motivated me
@Colin Mackay I hear a bit of this but the fucking use is more drama and makes you a complaining critic. Ima bet grandpa would approve. May you see the patina is still there.
I had a similar frame w/ that exact same stem that my Dad found in the junkyard and built it up with random salvaged parts. It a 20" wheeled bike and it had that exact style of crank and the skip chain chainring. My Dad hand filed every other tooth out of the rear gear and had an old skip chain he had found somewhere. I rode that bike all through the 70's until I cracked it from jumping wooden ramps.
I came here for the 90s MTB restorations but I think this is my favourite video so far! I think I spend as much time watching them as you take restoring them. Both of our wives have no doubt forgotten what we look like 😄
Love that saddle, actually everything in this bike...one of my favourite bike from your build/restoration from now on. The simplicity of old bikes never fails to amaze me.
That was an amazing restoration, truly bringing old things back to life. A Saturday morning with an oldshovel video is going to be a good Saturday. Thanks for taking us along on and I'm sure the owner will appreciate the amount of work bringing this old bike back to life.
I cannot Like this enough. New and fancy is good. But rebuilding a tried and tested steed, especially for a family, warms my heart! Thank you for this!
Definitely one of your best restorations. And that's saying a lot considering some of the great more modern bikes you've built up. This was a real pleasure to watch. You're a true artisan.
4 cross spoke lacing😊! It means that from the hub to the rim, every "pulling" spoke would cross 4 "pushing" spokes. As a young cyclist, i once read somewhere that this was by far 4 the best pattern, much better than the standard 3 cross. So it became like an obsession. And I managed to respoke all my bicycles: back wheel, front wheel, road race bike, track, even bicycles provided by my sponsor brand! Not sure it enhanced my performances, pretty sure no one noticed, but I kind of was proud of it. Thank you for reminding me of my competition years.
Beautiful bike. Enjoyed watching the restoration. I like modern bikes but the old one’s like this have so much character. As you say quite a few stories to tell 👍
I just love the style of those old frames. But boy were they heavy! I could imagine the original owner riding that bike out the old farm lane to meet the bus for school.
This must be one of the nicest restorations I have seen in a long time. Not easy, but beautiful and with a great story to tell. 🤩🙌 Keep giving those old tings new life.❤️
Such a rad restoration. Favorite part was the seat reupholstery. This is a prime basket candidate. We gotta get a follow up video update of Eric porter doing a fat coaster skid on it
Hello and many greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 You did an incredible job and I looked up the saddle and fell over what they cost today. So it’s definitely worthwhile restoring these old things, because as you said they have stories to tell. I think when you dived into the work you made your ideas who has ridden the bike . Take care and stay healthy and: keep on going 👍🍀🌞🚲🚲
This brings back memories of my dad restoring his bike after he found it in his sisters cellar way back when I was maybe 9 or ten I’m 66 now and remember no pedals no seat no chain last time he rode it was beforeWW2 he stripped all paint all chrome was painted by his nephew who he gave it to but under the paint chrome was still good the color he painted was sky blue we rode around the neiborhood me on my stingray and him on his Columbia one day he gave to our town hermit And he rode it around
I really like the way you talked about the stories of the bike, tying it back to the tool restoration videos that I first watched your channel for. Beautiful work. I really, really like your ethos of giving old things new life.
I am currently building a Trek Multitrack as a single speed bike. I couldn't get the aluminum seat post out. Had to saw it off just above the frame and then slit it lengthways from the inside with a reciprocating saw ... You can't let the scrap win ;-).
Man, you really are the god of bike restorations! You are aware of the fact that the only reason this still exists is that for decades people where too lazy to throw it away. And here you are bringing it back from the grave. New life in deed! I am deeply impressed. Maybe you can post a little video on insta when the new owner is riding it.
Such beautiful and inspiring work...I love the commitment to doing every part of the bike...I've never restored a saddle, but I aim to do so now. Great job!!!
Nice job as always. Really amazing restoration of the seat. I was surprised at what good shape the cogs on the chain ring were in. I think that bike racked up more weather miles outside than riding miles. 👍☮️🌟🚲
Just as a tip , when you spoke a wheel the valve should end up in the biggest spacing of the spokes , it just makes it easy when you are putting air in the tire .
Spokes crossing above the valve stem? A bold choice! I weep seeing the unprotected bearings in those pedals, I hope this bike never gets left out in the rain. Another great build though, I would have been going crazy for years trying to find compatible parts.
Love the build and your channel concept. I would have loved to see the frame and handlebars left with the original rust. Only being cleaned in spots where necessary. That rust was beautiful, well earned & told a story.
Really amazing job. You put a lot of effort on this one, but taking in count the initial condition of this bike... the result is simply incredible. Thanks for share this histories that comes with each bike that you touch. As always, big hug.
Hello, I see you from México, i'm fan of your work, and I have learned of your videos.. Just yesterday i restored a classic bike, gift of my brother. I did not do it as well as you but I enjoyed doing it and I liked how it turned out. If I could, I show you a picture of my bike. Greetings from México.
Another great build! That stem is really beautiful. One thing I would say is that I wish Park Tool would send you a socket set so you could stop using adjustable wrenches so much! 😁
You did an amazing job, the bicycle turned out beautifully. I have a straight bar schwinn frame in my storage just getting all the parts patiently because the parts are expensive, but man, I love that " London " color and I am going to paint mine exactly like yours, thank you so much for sharing, I enjoy your video, keep up the awesome 👌 work, God bless you. 😀
Looks to be an Elgin. Actually quite valuable bikes. My grandfather always talked about his Elgin and how great it was anytime I mentioned riding. Got stolen off his porch as a kid.
This turned out amazing, can't thank you enough! Just in time for summer cruising!
It was my pleasure. The perfect project.
Was that your bike?
@Sophia Sigler That's a great idea, maybe this spring!
Bro!!!!!! ...that is lovely, you are quite The Craftsman!

Finally, finally a video of someone restoring a cruiser bike, my favorite, man what a beautiful bike
You are the man I have nothing but respect for your craft. I just got 2 antique bikes today. 2 seater back from the 50”s and a cruiser bike from the 70’s both are rusty. I never restored bikes before. You just motivated me
"Give this old things new live." Perfect!
@Colin Mackay I hear a bit of this but the fucking use is more drama and makes you a complaining critic. Ima bet grandpa would approve. May you see the patina is still there.
@Colin Mackayjebus, you're watching a channel where a dude restores bikes and gunning him for painting a rusty old frame.
I had a similar frame w/ that exact same stem that my Dad found in the junkyard and built it up with random salvaged parts. Just weld it up😊
As a mecanic, there is something oddly satisfying about watching you work men, thanks for the videos, and great job as usual
The snap that bolts make when they finally give in... Refreshing
I came here for the 90s MTB restorations but I think this is my favourite video so far! I think I spend as much time watching them as you take restoring them. Both of our wives have no doubt forgotten what we look like 😄
This is arguably one of the most beautiful and relaxing things I’ve ever seen.
Check out some of blue lugs builds! Puts me to sleep every time 🤣
Love that saddle, actually everything in this bike...one of my favourite bike from your build/restoration from now on. The simplicity of old bikes never fails to amaze me.
Such a beautiful bike. The frame arc from the headset, past the seat and down to the back wheel hub is just so aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
I've loved bikes since I was a kid. The stories old bikes could tell of past adventures.
The Bob Ross of bike building! I watch the entire build
That was an amazing restoration, truly bringing old things back to life. A Saturday morning with an oldshovel video is going to be a good Saturday. Thanks for taking us along on and I'm sure the owner will appreciate the amount of work bringing this old bike back to life.

I was super stoked at how nice the saddle turned out. It's a great bike with plenty of stories left to tell for sure!
Beautiful bike. Enjoyed watching the restoration. I like modern bikes but the old one’s like this have so much character. As you say quite a few stories to tell 👍

Keep giving those old tings new life.❤️
How beautiful……. The color scheme really seems to capture that era. Beautifully done.
Thanks for reminding me how much I still love old bikes! Such a joy to watch!
Thank you for the inspiration! Restoring a bike for my son in college! Great father and son time even at 20 years old🥲
I've seen all your restoration videos (some of them twice), this is some of your finest work!
The amazing part of this restoration is that an old relic can be restored and used after decades of neglect. Well done!
Pefect, as always..!! I will like to see a vintage 20 inch BMX bike restored by you..
Mesmerizing.
Decades ago, I removed the spokes from a rim. I never figured out how to reassemble it 😆
Beautiful. I wish I had access to all the cool parts you do. Great build.
Such a rad restoration. Favorite part was the seat reupholstery. This is a prime basket candidate. We gotta get a follow up video update of Eric porter doing a fat coaster skid on it
YES! I totally want to see Eric riding it. Please ?!
I’m guessing he hasn’t seen it yet other than this vid. Isn’t he at Berm Park?
@@UltimateWedgieParachuteCo We just got back from visiting Seth, can't wait to see the bike in person!!!
Amazing video your patience, skill and hard work are a tonic to us all . Thank you .

A very thoughtful, tastefully done restoration! A beautiful old bike!
Great story, thanks for sharing it
That’s a really nice looking old front hub, and the stem has such an art deco vibe about it. Great video!
I love your content. It's so great to see old bikes how they would've been new and to keep them going.
This video is still inspiring two years after, amazing detail work, thanks oldshovel!
I really like the way you talked about the stories of the bike, tying it back to the tool restoration videos that I first watched your channel for. Beautiful work. I really, really like your ethos of giving old things new life.
I think I enjoyed this more than the high end builds . Very nice .
This may be my favorite build. Just clean and straight forward.
pleasure to watch you ,, no silly music and getting your hands in where it mattered ,,,,half hour vid went so quick thanks
Your Tools BOARD very gently and good I like it's good Tools used good knowledge PEOPLE 🎉❤
Great video! Love seeing old things given another chance to be loved by a new generation! Strong work!
Forget yoga, this video relaxed me. What a bike! Such history. Expert restoration indeed.
My thoughts exactly!!
Me too, please know how much your videos are like a meditation for some of us. Add especially the make old things new Mantra.
Thank Old Shovel, you are an inspiration and I always enjoy your projects.
Wow 😲 the detail you put into these bikes is fantastic 🤘
Absolutely love this restoration and your colour choices. Beautiful....big love from the UK 🇬🇧
That's straight up magic how this one came out
Love it! Summink about those old US bikes. We don't see 'em that often here in the UK. Such smooth lines and sweeping bars. Great restoration.
A quick ride always makes me happy.
What a beauty- Was wondering if it would get a set of Oury’s
I don't often see bicycle saddle restorations like this. Usually the restoration process only includes the frame, wheels, drivetrain. Great job!
What a lovely way to spend half an hour. Lovely job and a worthwhile project. Well done mate.
"this will be a fun one"...stares at seatpost
😁🙌😁😂exactly.
Old bike shop trick for stuck seat posts is to fill the post with ammonia. Breaks the bond between aluminum and steel. 🙂
I am currently building a Trek Multitrack as a single speed bike. I couldn't get the aluminum seat post out. Had to saw it off just above the frame and then slit it lengthways from the inside with a reciprocating saw ... You can't let the scrap win ;-).
Lol
That came apart more easily than I expected.
Even though I have been doing this for 50 plus years I am nowhere near as good at it as you are. Fantastic, fantastic work !
This restoration is an instant classic for the holdshovel channel. Many thanks to share your work.
I agree most fitting to the original motif of this channel. I like it.
Nice. I had flashbacks to an old cruiser that I restored several years ago. Very much the same process. Good job and thanks for sharing.
You are the god of restoration. Thanks for sharing us your talent.
It's really nice restoration of this vintage bike. Thanks for your effort...
Very beautiful bike, and very reliable - fell in love. Excellent, clear assembly, thumbs up.
Such beautiful and inspiring work...I love the commitment to doing every part of the bike...I've never restored a saddle, but I aim to do so now. Great job!!!
Love this, just took on a bike project and this is helping IMMENSELY!! thank you so much
Such a cool old bike, I hope the owner enjoys it and appreciates the work that went into restoring it...
Thanks for showing us the build.
How beautiful is that frame. Great work shovel man.
This was such a great restoration, thank you for sharing with us I really enjoyed it and subscribed right away.
That’s great you bring them back to life thanks for sharing
You did a great job of restoring that bike. Thanks.
Nice job as always. Really amazing restoration of the seat. I was surprised at what good shape the cogs on the chain ring were in. I think that bike racked up more weather miles outside than riding miles. 👍☮️🌟🚲
Trabalho sensacional , inspirador por causa de você voltei a andar de bicicleta , pra mim o melhor canal !!
Fantastic build!
One of my favourites so far.
Thanks for sharing it with everyone.
Thanks oldshovel for another amazing video! 🚲
Such a great build! Thank you for sharing

This is another great restoration episode. Thanks for sharing..
Really enjoyed this bike. Love that you left the stem and crank raw. lovely bike.
Thanks Jason👌watching from Thailand🇹🇭😊
Same here, enjoyed the restoration and watching from Thailand 🙂
Another great build! That stem is really beautiful.
One thing I would say is that I wish Park Tool would send you a socket set so you could stop using adjustable wrenches so much! 😁
Wow! Really impressed with this resto. Great work on that seat!
beautiful! this inspires me to get another old bike to work on again.
beautiful work!!!! & transformation, you really brought it back to life!!! Bravo
What a stunning bike! Awesome work sir.
Nickels in the grips, brilliant! Great video!
That really came out wonderful! Inspired choices for colour! The shape is a beautiful one.
I'd gone with steel bars and strutters as well, for that old spaceage bicycle type nostalgia. Other than that, what an awesome restoration!!
Sweet ride great job.
I couldn't believe the old ball bearing's we're still together.
Looks to be an Elgin. Actually quite valuable bikes. My grandfather always talked about his Elgin and how great it was anytime I mentioned riding. Got stolen off his porch as a kid.
Beautiful work, especially the saddle. Many more years use now, and you re used so many of the original parts.
Nice bike, worthwhile work. Thank you.
That's beautiful. Lovely job
love these kind of videos, keep up the great work oldshovel
