The biggest problem is that Netflix didn’t learn from HBO. HBO (typically) doesn’t start a shit ton of series and cancel them after one season just because the numbers aren’t popping. HBO is (typically) patient and gives most series a fair shot. And often history is very kind to those shows and new generations go back. That isn’t happening with Netflix. Netflix is all short-term quantity over quality. That’s why they’ll lose.

I think you are right. I feel like the writers used to LOVE the shit they were writing, the plots were much more interesting and the actors almost always played their characters perfectly.
Now, everything feels generic and dull of life. Not to mention that they ALWAYS have to bring some degree of woke politics into the shows.

      finally someone who gets it!🙏
Netflix is trying to fill the void with their own content like Squid Game for example, but it's not enough compared to their service in the past and the competition. One of their competitors is one of the biggest if not the biggest media company in the world: disney. They try to massproduce new content to keep up, but the audience isn't always interested in new content. Imo Netflix is performing well, if we take into consideration the limitation in Disney movies and that they live mostly off of their own content. It's still remarkable how much new content they produce and sometimes this content even blows up gaining international fame.
I don't think that woke stuff has had any major significance. He just listed 3 problematic movies and that's basically all of his "evidence". I could have misunderstood this video, great video overall editing wise, but listing 3 movies and one lgbt controversy and call it the reason for Netflix' downfall is one of the weakest arguments I've ever seen in a TH-cam video.

That singular point was not the only reason he presented, but it seems that you, and some others, really enjoy cherry-picking that part out without understanding that it’s about how that content relates to their ESG rating, not the content itself. Also, most woke media is about the message before it’s about a truly entertaining story. Wokeness isn’t inherently bad, but it’s modern implementation is just all too commonly uninspired and shallow.

I think some of the biggest problems of Netflix has are:
    - Constant rising costs combined with BS plans and crackdowns on account sharing.
    - Exclusivity. Other companies started to pull their stuff because they're publisher started to make their own stream service (like Disney+) or an IP was exclusively licensed to another streaming platform (which Netflix is just as guilty of by the way. This is a streaming platform problem in general).
    - The heavy focus on binging. It's almost impossible to keep up with the demand that binging creates. How often do you hear "Man, there's nothing to watch", despite their being a LOT of content on Netflix. Series that cost so much time to produce, are being consumed in a matter of hours. How can any production company keep up with that?

Quentin Tarantino summed a lot of it up several years ago. Not his words, but it's like a kid in a sweetshop. When given a few minutes to pick, they simply waste time wondering which to buy faced with endless choices. What Quentin said was that in the old days of video rental, there was time and care invested in your choices. Most people would drive to the rental store, once a week and choose 2-3 videos to watch over the next 5-7 days. Because they were only getting three, they would take time to consider and read the backs of cases. Even posters and cardboard cutouts would influence choice in some cases. And even if one of those 3 videos wasn't the best, they would still watch it through as they had invested time and money in getting it. Now, with streaming...and not helped by social media obsession....most people can't pay attention to the T.V for more than 5 mins at a time without glancing at their phone. That means, if there isn't an explosion or car chase every few minutes they lose interest and give up on the movie/shoe without giving it a chance. When you have too much choice, like the kid in the sweetshop they will keep sampling different ones trying to find the perfect one.

      @M0Sesdef 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@jtaylor9562 Someone probably made this very argument when video rental stores were introduced. People's preferences have changed for what video entertainment is. It's not that they CAN'T pay attention, it's that the type of content they desire has changed. It's no longer just 30 min sitcoms or 2 hour movies as their only choices. Can you really blame somebody wanting to watch 40 three minute videos of things they're interested in, or one movie that may or may not be good? I mean, you're here watching a TH-cam video and not a movie right now.

I had this teacher that worked in TV for a while, and he told me back in 2018 the biggest issue with the business over there at Netflix: they produce ANYTHING. If you're a decently known individual and go to them with a new project, odds are they just accept it regardless of the content. That's still a problem now in 2022.
There's just too much stuff on the platform, and they should just focus on making a few incredible shows instead of 100+ mediocre ones. Currently HBO is doing the best job out of all streaming services, and that's because they've always understood how to make quality TV. I get that Netflix wants to give creators the most freedom possible, but at least filter the creators you work with (like A24 where they give creative freedom but still produce great stuff).

I also feel that Netflix is committing suicide of a thousand cuts by constantly removing shows. I keep a log of all the different shows that I watch and what episode, etc., I am on. Last night I went through it and discovered that over 50 Series that I was watching, but not finished, were removed. It is disgusting to try to watch the third episode of the second season of a Series you were into, only to find out that it was removed. Even old shows, like Twilight Zone, which is over 50 years old, and should be in the public domain by now, was removed. Removing content with no warning, adding content from places in the world that shouldn't be making movies ever, and raising the price over and over is a sure-fire recipe for disaster.

For a company to hold the rights to all the content it would need an insane astronomical budget (aside from the fact that a monopoly is never a good thing). Yes Netflix puts out their own "original" content but this is just a small fraction of all content produced and an absolute miniscule portion of all content ever created. And even their own content eventually will get rented out to others if it's economically more viable to do so.

Netflix is collapsing because the market is changing faster than they're able to adapt to it. It's clear that they never planned on becoming content providers, and that their biggest draw, having most of the stuff you want to stream in one place, is going away and will never come back. Now, they're just another streaming service. One that has to compete with the money that Amazon has, and the catalogue and money that Disney has. They're trying to become content creators to counter this, but they've been mostly throwing shit against the wall to see what sticks. For every good movie or series they make, there are five bad ones. That's not sustainable. Even if they get their internal studio drama together, they're never going to be what they were back in 2011.

    A couple of points.
    1. You seem to be missing out the bit during the mid 2000's where Netflix went from rock bottom to wiping out Blockbuster.
    2. Netflix's fall is less the 'Culture war' BS, more a case of complacency and market saturation. Their model was to Democratise HBO, and for a while it was very successful. This being because whilst shows like 'The Sopranos' and 'The Wire' had wetted the public's appetite for series based dramas. Few others were actually doing them. So Netflix rolls in with a whole suite of them and cleans up. The problem is that competitors cock and ear and start to do the same. Also, there are only so many good writers and good ideas, which means the quality starts to take a dip. Hence why Netflix is not the juggernaut it once was.

And yeah? What does it say about me that I don't feel like being constantly blasted with propaganda telling me how me and my people are the problem with the world? That I'm not mentally ill?
Look, I can appreciate a writer with a real message that I disagree with, but the problem is modern writers do not come up with these political messages themselves, they are forced to include it or are simply brainwashed as fuck - these aren't their own thoughts, these are thoughts projected onto them by the establishment, and it is almost without fail extremely jarring and destroys any sense of verisimilitude to include this shit in a creative work. Who the fuck wants the same political message screamed at them in every show and movie, a message that is engineered by corporations, not people. Its also clearly virtue signaling - the work isn't asking a question or provoking original thought in woke media, they're screaming the answer at you, telling you what to think and believe, and this problem is further compounded by the fact that their message is literally just wrong. And its in Every. Single. Mainstream. Work. You're being intellectually dishonest if you think people having a problem with that 'says more about them than media'.

No, I have to go through a million tiles on screen. Can I create my own lists? No, I only get to favorite titles, and cannot re-order those favorites. Can I create my own tags? Tags? What are those? Can I define how the content is presented to me? Hell no. Can I just watch something randomly? No. Are rating services integrated? No, we want you to watch the garbage we think is appropriate for you. Can users shares their opinions? No, are you a socialist? Am I allowed to watch content outside of my own small country? No, peasant. (Local licenses for world-wide streaming services! The internet sure is wild!) Can I conveniently watch everything in the original language with subtitles? Haha, of course not! Sharing opinions can be cool but I dont think everyone on the platform wants to be bothered with the social media feel, it's a streaming network so persons might want to just get on there for movies, netflix has various social media accounts where comments are open to the public, and they start conversations there
However I do agree with the limiting of shows in different countries I think they need to work on that, although it might not be their fault, they don't own the rights to some of the shows so its probably not their decision.

When I look at Netflix there's one thing I never understood. The bulk of Hollywood Studios aren't fixed assets per say their more pay as you go. Unlike the old MGM days with huge lots with permanent or semi permanent sets and contracted actors directors and writers.
But for a company that lived and breathed 'content' buying Studios to access their IP should of been top of their Agenda. Buying Paramount or MGM for instance for 1-2 billion makes much more sense than 200-300 million for the rights to Friends for 5 years.
At the beginning Studios didn't have an understanding of the economics of streaming so Netflix got preferential deals on relatively long term agreements. But they should of been smart enough to know by the time that 5-10 year deal expires on let's be in a position to buy Marvel or DreamWorks or Star Wars.
They could of bought all of the IP Disney has but they didn't and in the end they wasted Billions of Dollars and one of the biggest opportunities in Entertainment History.

Its that you can please that loser company by making woke content to lose customer or please customers with good products and lose the investors from that stupid company, but why you would even need investors from the stupid blackrock company, when your already rich and succesful with your company, when investors are for poor beginners, that need money to start their company, but you are not poor beginner anymore, when you succesful company owner, so you dont need more investors anymore. Better to own like 80% of your company and please your customers with good products, so you will get forever money from the customers, when they like your good product, than please some stupid blackrock investors that will buy some of your company for somewhat cash, while now you get less money in future, when now you own like 50% of your company and its going to be very less money you get, if your only own 5% and investors own 95%, so that is nevet good to do, when you will get forever more money, if you keep owning 80% of your company and so two decades its going to be more money to get, than when investors bought your whole company. You only need investors in start to kick off to start your company, but not later on, when its just extra money to lose more control over your company, when you already rich and succesful, so you can buy yourself what you need for your company and so you dont need any imvestors. Fox News got bad that blackrock bullshite score, but why would they care, if they keep their viewers happy with good content they keep getting more money all time and so they dont need and blackrock investors, when are already succesful company. Modern day companies lose a lot more money making customers angry with bad products, while pleasing some blackrock investor loser, when they will then not get anymore countinously money from customers, so companies should learn that you dont need anymore investors and dont need to please some blackrock bullshite investor company.

Netflix has a number of core issues: a lot of money wasted on unappealing content; creating, distributing and promoting polarizing content for shock value; highly visible partisan political affiliations. “Cuties” shouldn’t have been made, and Netflix should have had the common sense to avoid tying their corporate brand to such content. To a lesser extent, the same goes for “Tiger King”, and Gasper Noe’s “Love” (which was basically full-on porn). Yes, some of this was popular, but none of it was good for brand image.
To make matters worse, they made deals with politically polarizing characters, like putting Susan Rice on their board, with the Obama’s involved in producing content for the service. To be clear, having politicos involved with a company is not uncommon, but the broadcasting of such, especially when it appears highly partisan, is just bad business.
Finally, Netflix underinvests, and undercommits to promising new shows. Rather taking the time to build an audience, many shows just disappear. This results in a dependency on a very limited amount of good content, which currently isn’t enough to sustain the service (on the content side, Amazon has much the same issue, but they retain subscribers through other means). In contrast, when I look at Apple’s service, they are delivering a lot of good to excellent content, both in miniseries form and shows (shows that they’ve committed to the multiple seasons). I feel like I get value for my money with Apple on the basis of their content alone; I’ll keep paying for HBOMax because there’s enough there between movies and original content to be worth the money; Paramount has, like HBO, a big enough movie library and some (pretty marginal) content; Amazon sticks around because I use my prime membership for other stuff.
So Netflix, despite having been a subscriber since the DVD mailing days, had to go. I don’t like the overt political connections, the really questionable content, the increasingly rubbish library, and dead-end shows. Netflix was sitting on an enormous valuation, with a pile of cash. Had they kept it simple and just done job number one, which was invest in as much unique compelling content as possible, instead of courting controversy, they’d be in a different place.

Next they get there big break and everyone loves them. After they build enough trust with customers they start to abuse that trust in favor of ever more growth as the original owner either sells out or gets muscled out of the picture. Exactly this was a 26 mins long video basically saying "Go woke go broke". While the most likely causes are that Netflix hit a ceiling or the market has been saturated by other streaming platforms. Netflix's actual policy was to distribute(most of their shows are purchased and not produced by them) as diverse of a portfolio as possible. However people like to take the examples that fits their narrative. Cuties wasn't made by Netflix, its streaming rights were purchased after the film had had a succesful festival run.
