#GHOSTIN Harley Davidson has all ways tried to distance their self from the culture. In the old days if your bike was modified Harley would not touch it. My first Harley was a 1967 Sportster that I hold still to this day I got it in 1982 can I bought a panhead and move to a Shovelhead no I ride 2012 classic but still ride the Sportster

My grandfather would put me on his Harley when I was little and take me on rides around the neighborhood. Just wanted to share...

Governments all over the planet have 1% clubs listed as criminal organizations and H-D is a publicly traded, international company that has investors and LAWS (both American and foreign) to worry about. Agreed. Most guys buy that Harley and get it looking mean, club style is now in. CLUB STYLE...... Because they feel like they a badass motherfycken just like the 1%ers they see rolling in the HD's. My Dad was a WWII vet.Tail gunner on a B24 bomber.I started riding back in 69.Never had the bucks for an HD so got used Triumphs,Still riding a vintage Triumph.Never got hassled by 1%ers or hardcore HD guys back in the day.Many of them said because the British were our allies in the war and often called Triumph,HDs little brother.

#GHOSTIN! I Read Hunter Thompson's book Hells Angels in fifth grade in '69. As an outsider it changed my life. Those guys didn't take anybody's crap and I knew then that I would find like minded Brothers and ride a Harley one day. The guys in that book especially Terry The Tramp along with the veterans I was raised around influenced my lifelong love of God, brotherhood, freedom and country. Back when I was a kid 1%'s rode Brit and German bikes even. After WW II there were surplus Harley's to be had cheap. A lot of service men coming home picked them up as cheap transportation and naturally started riding together. For speed they started bobbing and later chopping them. Sonny called stock Harley's garbage wagons. They would strip everything off a dresser that wasn't mechanically necessary. The Motor Company definitely owes a debt to 1%er culture but they'll never admit it. Even the profilers hanging around the dealership drinking coffee in the boutique atmosphere head to toe in leather on a hundred degree day are trying to feel a little of the culture. In a way it was the yups and rubs that saved the company when they went public after AMF but it will always be the outlaws that everyone thinks of when you say Harley. Admit it or not most Americans have a little bit of outlaw in them. Hell, this country was born of outlaws. The new regime has declared half the country outlaws. From Christian conservatives to 1%'s to all points in between we best be ready to stand together because the beast has reared its ugly head and they're coming after us. God Bless You All. I try to buy American all the time. When I started buying tools for my business I bought American every time the option was there (and paid out the rear for it). Unfortunately a lot of it could NOT be found in American brands... We really need to bring production back to America.

We take pride in our HDs old school back in the 60s and 70 we loved carrying tools With us and work on our bikes on the side of the road that's what we called real bikers 81 45 year Veteran HA

It's hard to give homage to HD when they have outsourced many parts and don't respect who made them ! I love all the brothers who have stood up to all the enemies of freedom including some from within our castle. I ride a 2015 Honda 1300 but don't discount HD, got my eye on a Road King for the future. #Ghostin
The harley davidson motorcycle is a very interesting machine. Its Air cooled Vtwin is a similar design to a air cooled radial engine used in WW2 planes just with 2 cylinders. it Sounds like a fighter plane of that era. You can almost imagine on a highway riding one with drag pipes that your running a P36C HAWK fight. They sound very aggressive and menacing, im sure that was a huge factor to want to ride them as well.
if you look when Sonny's Movie "Dead in 5 heartbeats" Came out he Admitted he wished he had allowed metrics, and they do in Europe and Australia. As for me, i rode Harley's When Harley's were not cool, in 1973 when i was 14 and got my license i got a Harley SX-250, and a Job at a Harley/Yamaha Dealer where i learned to love ALL BIKES !! and i have owned ALL Brands, but Harley is still my Go to right now i ride a 2012 FLHRC
International clubs like the Hells Angels, the Bandidos etch don't allow metric bikes. They allow Harley Davidson and Buell only. Local 1% MCs on the other hand do have a lot of metric cruisers.
Not correct.in UK and Ireland 81 own and ride Triumph.in eastern Europe they ride metric because of the cost of H-D

Sose The Ghost because most Members in the 40’s/50’s/60’s/70’s of 1% Clubs were Military Veterans from either World War,Korean War,Vietnam War. Because they fought for the United States/Canada/England fought for their a Country. Sonny Barger said in his first book Hell’s Angel that limiting Club Members to American Made Motorcycles may have been a mistake. #GHOSTIN

Harley-Davidson was very smart during World War II. They sent how long with their bikes for the war mechanics in Factory wraps and hope when they returned they would buy a bike from them they had riding programs during the war and mechanics training
He indeed said that. In a later book he explaned why. This man is a living legend. There were technical "better bikes" mainly crotch rockets. Those days are over now, Harley-Davidson and Indian now are nothing wrong with. Good explanation from the old days

I love my Vstar. It's reliable, it doesnt leak oil, and it keeps up with all my HD friends no problem. I even carry tools to help my HD riders out when we go on long road trips

@@kencooper9336 I'd have to agree with you. They are very reliable. Mine looked good and sounded good too. But my brother's softail was the absolute best sounding and best looking bike I have ever laid eyes on. And it was fast and powerful. And he smoked us all lol.

When I was doing my time in the MC in CT my club got to help with Sonny’s security and I hung out all day with him and got a signed copy of his book , pretty interesting guy with some crazy ass stories

Harley Davidson is just like any other major corporation in that in order to stay afloat and ahead of anyone else, they go where the money is. They capitalized on the outlaw biker image for years, because that's who was riding those bikes. But when they discovered a new buyer, they did just what any other business would do. With them, as with any business, it's never about loyalty, but about you buying their product. It's who's buying and most willing to shell out the money that they are most interested in.

My Honda VTX 1800 is more American than some newer Harleys. Your still supporting American workers so there is basically no difference. Except Honda isn't pricing me out of a nice ride.

Hey Sose, great subject. Never knew that about Sonny not liking HD. I bought a Victory in '99 when they first came out. Nice bike, but transmission problems right out of the box. Victory wouldn't warranty the repair, so I had another dealer get a way to get my repair done, no charge. I had a Goldwing for a couple of months, all the plastic was made in USA, the bike was assembled in Marysville, Ohio. I ride a 2007 Dyna Lowrider now. Absolutely the bike for me. I like the fact there is a huge following for HD, all kinds of help and advice on repairs. I work on my own bike so I don't mind fixing it. I don't view my bike as an appliance with no soul. I think Indian would be acceptable in the 1% culture very soon, if not already. Yeah, I keep up with corporate HD as I work at a local dealership. Enough said.... Best, Queasyrider

#GHOSTIN. I like the Harley evos. They're a durable bike, run forever. I currently own 2 of them, a 1984 Electra Glide Classic and a 1993 Tour Glide Ultra Classic Anniversary Edition. I ride them like I stole them. Easy to work on, don't leak oil and very reliable.

Its a damn shame they closed Victory, I love Harleys. But I want Victory to succeed. And yes I know about Indian, but I don't like they're front fender look they got on most they're bikes
What I don't understand is that they were the same but Victory had better performance out the factory for less money. I was pretty disappointed when I heard Polaris was shutting them down. I get that they didn't want them to competing against their more expensive brand but, damn, at least get you more expensive brand on their level of performance before hand.
I agree with you on the Indian front fender. It just ruins the look of the bike in my opinion.

my Scout Bobber doesn't have that fender issue. I think they're catching on, the Dark Horse bobber same thing. I think they're just getting warmed up.
I cant comment on THE CLUB cause I dont care the patch but I have spoken to MR BARGER on a couple occasions a all around EXCELLENT INDIVIDUAL, I cant say enough good thing about him that was my experience with the man

There are a few metric bikes that are made here in America. The honda shadow,vtx, and Goldwing lines were made in America (Ohio). The Kawasaki Vulcan line was made in Nebraska. I ride Harley, Suzuki, Honda, and Kawasaki. I may add a Yamaha an Indian this year.
I had a 2002 honda 600 CBR rr all blacked out 20 years ago.now I have 13 road glide for about 3 years and I love it.

I always liked the patriotism mentality, not of just 1%ers, but from the biggest part of the biker community. If your country makes it, you should buy it. That way you support your country. Where I am from, people ride Japanese, American, European (even 1%ers ) , but my country doesn't manufacture bikes.
That said, I am perfectly comfortable with my big, fat, 22 year old, Japanese, couch of a bike. People have told me on a few occasions to buy a HD, but why should I? If a moment comes when I want to buy an American, there are so many totally awesome American brands, that are in the European market as well, that actually respect their customers.
As for politics, when I see you talk about a subject concerning your country, I don't see a man talking politics, but a man caring about it. Loving your country is one of the highest forms of decency. If people loved their countries more than their pockets this world wouldn't be the mess it is right now. Keep doing what you do my friend!

When I was younger, I use to roll on metrics. But now all grown up I see the history and understand better. American Made. I’m a Merchant Mariner since 1991. Being gone for months at a time keep me from being in a MC but I respect the culture.
One thing about Sunny, he is consistent. I read his book years ago, and pretty much exactly what he says here.

#Ghostin As a former Victory and HD rider i will say the Victorys are more durable and a hell of a lot faster than HDs. I ride a 2018 #ZX10R and the adrenaline is what I am addicted to.
The early bike culture were former America GIs from WWII. Most of the early members of MC clubs like the Hells Angels MC were brave veterans of the Marines or other military units. Riding American is respectful to our heritage.

I ride two Harleys. 2019 Street Glide Special and 2018 Breakout. Both 117 Stage 4!
2020 I ended the year with just under 60,000 miles on my Street Glide Special. About 25,000 miles on the Breakout.
Had a Turbo Hayabusa that I just sold last July.
The Busa was awesome, but I love my Harleys most!!
I don't mind what anyone else wants to ride though... Personal choice.

I grew up in a union household and was raised with "support unions, support America" mentality. I try to buy American whenever possible but we don't always have the option to. If I wasn't riding a Victory, it would be an Indian or a HD.

Unfortunately HD doesn’t show the same loyalty to its customers as the customers show them. Everything is an add on and 5+ years behind on technology.

Been riding Harleys here in South Africa since the late sixties, have had twenty-three of them from my '37 Knuck that I've had since '75, up to my current TwinCam...and they have treated me excellently.

#Ghostin in Oregon Ridin a 2010 Twin Cam. Started on a Knucklhead, then an Evolution, and now ridin my second Twin Cam. HD is an expensive ride but there is nothing else like it. I also wear custom built Langlitz leathers built in Portland Oregon.

Another great video and I really enjoy your channel. Being and owner of a 17 Harley Road King Special and loving it, I also have my opinion of the motor company. Here's my 2 cents: Harley started down the wrong path when they started moving away from being the motorcycle for the everyday American. That demographic is the largest in the US and Harley chose to turn away from them and attempt to cater to the elitist or older folks who could afford their ridiculously high prices. All this while the Japanese manufacturers came in and said yes to the common man offering a more dependable ride for an affordable price. Harley should step back and re-evaluate it's failing business model and realize that they need to provide the best bikes at reasonable prices to regain the throne as America's best.
On the bright note, one of the new bosses at HD is making a valiant effort to improve the used motorcycle market they Harley and make them more affordable to people.

I'm pretty sure that Sonny Barger was quoted a few times in the past as being a fan of or perhaps more like admired the Japanese bikes and I think especially Kawasaki but for the life of me I can't remember which model it was. But I also think this was related to how he felt about Harley Davidson so it may well have been more of a dig at them rather than a bonafide appreciation of another country's motorcycles. Perhaps somebody else knows more but no doubt he only owned American bikes but not sure if he ever rode any other kind of bike

You can get a used Harley for a fairly good price. Many of them have low miles, have been well cared for and already have various upgrades. That's what I did. That's just me though, your mileage may vary.

2015 Yamaha Bolt, fast enough to keep up with most HD reliable AF but the aftermarket world isn’t there and that’s the main reason I’ll be switching over to HD for my next bike

Is it just me or nobody like mentioning Indian motorcycles. They are American as well and go back forever!! I hear fewer complaints about them compared to Harley's. I was wondering why a lot of 1% percenter never talk about Indians or ride them compared to Harley's? Any answer on that Sosa Ghost?
Polaris made Victory but the problem they faced was being able to compete with the Harley brand name. So they bought the Indian motorcycle's brand name to be able to be competitive with Harley Davidson. So it is relatively new to the market. That's why your not hearing a whole bunch yet believe me you will be hearing more and more .
Indian has gone out of business over and over again since 1901. Me personally I wouldn’t want an Indian because the aftermarket selection is shit. They’re good bikes but to say they’ve been around forever isn’t right

I think that is over-rated. I understand the whole uniformity thing but just say sport bike or cruises. If the motorcycle industry are not working with the MC culture when it comes to pricing why the HELL would we force the MC culture to support them.

I ride a Japanese cruiser. Yamaha Bolt. Its a better sporty than the sporties. I rode and researched both before I bought the Yamaha. The HD dealership wated to give me a 26% interest rate. Went down the road and bought my Bolt cash. HD is too pretentious.

I also lived in San Berdoo Calif as well as being stationed there 43 years ago...couple of blocks over from the clubhouse as a matter of fact....we always buy American first.
# Ghostin I ride a 2009 softail standard with lots of extras including apes and a stage 3 kit. I had wanted a HD since I was 12 years old ( now 55 yo) and it took me 30 years till I could afford to get one which I ride every day.
1995 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail bought it new put 130.000 miles just now have to rebuild... but this bike has been good to me took me many places and seen new faces thanks Sonny ride on..
Also everyone saw Easyrider back in the day & they wanted a panhead.

I be the first to say im 100% harley. That being said its not for how it is now, its for the history in it. I ride a 1972 electraglide, love that bike. It may require more work, tooling in 72 nothing like in 2020. Machines weren’t as precise. But technology has ruined this country. Everyone relies on it. So i just stick with my old school stuff.
Back in the early 60s when I was a kid riding with my dad...a cop roared by us on a servi car and that was when my luv for Harley's started...and my older bro had Harleys....he bought a pearl white Shriners HD for $3500 it was low miles mint cond in the mid 70s..........my bro always gave me his Easyriders mags after he read them...I dreamed about HD and me and my friends all wanted to get HD and ride to the west coast when we got out of high school back in the 70s......I went out west in 1970 with my friends and their gramma and grandpa we road all over the west in the back of a pickup...we stopped at a gas station in the desert and a bunch of HAMC come roaring in.....most memorable part of the trip...what a time it was.

The funny thing is that HD isn't completely American some parts come from foreign countries and HD has been moving it's factories to other countries while some foreign countries have their bikes built and made in America
It's all about getting around tariffs. If Honda didn't build bikes in the U.S. they'd cost damn near what a Harley does. Harley moved operations overseas because countries put high tariffs on Made in America, and some won't allow importation. Unfortunately, it's the nature of the beast to lose "purity"(?). If a doohickey made in Brazil costs half what the same would cost in Indiana, you'll increase production in Brazil.
Indian is no better. They use overseas parts, and Polaris is a Canadian company.
The only way to 100% USA is to take years sourcing each individual part, and build your own. Then you end up with a 40K Softail....
Build in America and I'll buy it. Build it over seas and you can keep it. Its not about what Harley thinks of me, its about my Brothers and Sisters having jobs!

i understand his point of view. Unfortunately for me with a physical limitation i had to switch to 3 wheels. Harley Trikes suck , they have a solid rear axel instead of independent suspension making their handling awful. I switched to a German made Trike. REWACO Trikes. Great video. #ghostin
I ride a ‘14 Ultra Classic Limited, the Caddy of Harleys haha, I grew up around nothing but Harley and custom built American bikes so it’s in my blood, with that said, yeah I agree, ride whatever is most comfortable for you the rider, and no matter what that make or model may be, always make sure that ride is maintained and has good tires, that’s what’s most important for your safety, your brothers and sisters you may be riding with, and the general public overall, I’ve been a tow truck operator for almost 20 years and have towed em all, so that has opened my eyes to other brands and their capabilities and weaknesses and whatnot, Victory and Indian both make some nice rides and I’d definitely ride or own one , but all in all preference, comfort and maintenance is the key no matter what you’re riding if you ask me, but yeah I’m still that old school all American white boy that loves his Harleys and always will haha #ghostin 🤘🏼💯🇺🇸

#GHOSTIN.... the craziness you see with guys on the less expensive dirt bikes and sport bikes taking over entire freeways, wheelies and stunting...all the wild shit on the street is just the evolution of the culture that started on American bikes. HD priced themselves out of this market demographic and profited off the old skool outlaw type image at the same time not giving any credit to the people like Mr Barger and his club that kept the company afloat when times were really bad for them. Who remembers the AMF days? Now the HD demographic is dying...average age if an HD buyer is mid 50s...sad! There is so many of people that would want to buy an HD but can not justify the cost and maintenance.

#Ghostin! Yeah Sose, another great vid. When I was just a kid I had the pleasure of living just down the block from an 81 clubhouse. Those dudes were really cool to me. I had a lawn cutting business and those guys let me cut their lawn. Later some of them even let me help wash the Harleys, which I only found out at a later age was a pretty big privilege. Since those days I have little interest in those Japanese bikes (as cool looking as some of them are) because the big ol Harleys and other US made bikes are truly magical.
